Luxury farm glamping with epic views, a 10-minute walk from the Thames

Originally built by sisters Monica and Fiona and run by Fiona, this Chilterns glamping site is a real family affair, with considered touches at every turn. Set on their father’s working farm, complete with lambs, tractors and a combine harvester, it offers a real chance to bed down in the Thames Valley and have that countryside experience, despite being less than 30 minutes from Reading and Oxford and an hour from central London.

The farm forms a spectacular backdrop but, rest assured, you won’t be required to muck in – unless you want to. This is your opportunity to snuggle down in a grassy meadow with easterly views across the valley, making your home in one of their bell tents, luna tents or the lovingly restored farm shepherds hut that's tucked away in the trees edging the meadow. Every comfort is provided. Fiona has lovingly applied all the luxury little extras you might need, like fluffy towels and fire-effect electric heaters, while, a short stroll away, each has its own allocated bathroom with a hot shower and flushing loo.

Gaining a little insight into farm life is always fascinating, but there’s plenty of opportunity for you to explore the local offerings too. The village of Moulsford kisses the banks of the Thames, where you can stride out on the Thames Path (passing less than a mile from the site), hire a boat to cruise the river or, if you’re looking for something more high octane, try a spot of wakeboarding 20 minutes’ drive upstream. There’s also fishing close by, so if you’re a budding Paul Whitehouse, be sure to head down to Goring Lock for a spot of angling in a timeless and much-painted setting more than worthy of a scene in his TV series.

While aptly named Rolling Fields is grand, spacious and offers maximum comfort, you can really up the levels to stately with a visit to Highclere Castle (the setting for Downton Abbey), a 30-minute drive away. In summer, the filmic estate is opened to the public, including the castle, an Egyptian exhibition and the extensive, manicured gardens – there’s even a ‘real life film set’ tour if you’re an avid Downton fan. Blenheim Palace, the perfect place for romantic walks and family picnics, is around the same distance away (in the opposite direction). And if you can’t be doing with the pomp, then just bring your walking boots and keep it local – the Chilterns stretch away to the east, the North Wessex downs to the west and a nearby footpath leads you over Mouslford Downs to join the scenic Ridgeway National Trail.

Stayed over the weekend with a large group of friends. Some of us frequently go glamping and I can easily say that this was one of the best glamping sites I've stayed at. The tents were of really good quality, comfy beds and the bathrooms were by far and away the best I've seen for this sort of setup before. I'd highly recommend staying here to anyone!

Had a wonderful stay at Rolling Fields last weekend! We were a bigger group who had the whole site, making the most of the place. From start to finish the hosts were easily contactable and provided lots of info and recommendations. When we arrived it was an easy to find, simple check in, beautifully set-up and bathrooms were brilliant. Everything was so clean and organised per tent. It was well thought out made the whole trip easy. Goring nearby is lovely for a few hours out, but good enough to stay on site for the whole weekend to relax. Would return and recommending to lots of friends!

Perfect set up for those that are new to Glamping / Camping. Own private bathroom with shower which was very clean, and lots of extras provided to make the stay feel comfortable including blankets, towels, lantern, fairy lights, electric heater, plastic crockery and cutlery, mini fridge, kettle and toaster. Facilities included own seating area and fire pit, gas BBQs (3 to share across 5 units) and play area. Site is about 15 mins walk from the river and a lovely restaurant, and a short drive to Goring. We had a lovely stay and hope to go back next season.

Our stay here was amazing. Our first glamping experience and this was just great. The tent was clean, cosy and comfortable and kitted with everything you need. The private bathroom was ideal. Our daughter loved the playground and we enjoyed our own outdoor seating area with the fire pit. Total relaxation. The only thing to add or improve on would be to upgrade the playground facilities and this place would have it all! We will definitely be back!

It was lovely and quiet, beautiful views and it really well equipped. The hosts had thought of everything, kettle, toaster, heater, lighter, and lovely seating and brazier area. My girls, 6 and 10 loved the playground and also the outdoor toys, we would recommend to anyone.

I have just got back from 2 nights fabulous stay at Rolling Fields. We stayed in the Polaris Luna Tent and it was absolutely beautiful. There was everything we could need to hand and having our own toilet and shower was a great addition. My 5 year old loved it as had other little ones to play with in the play area where she was safe. Hubby enjoyed bbq and fire pitt and I was content with the kettle, toaster and electric stove. I can not wait to book my next stay here. Would highly recommend to others.

Our children loved it very much. The view from the top of the hill is just stunning. The private bathroom with hot shower is clean. Everything we needed are provided for; towels, blankets, heaters, gas bbq stove, fridge, drinking water tap, washing facilities. They even have a nice little playground for the children. Our children felt safe roaming around the campsite on their own. We also managed take a scenic walk along the river and visit Oxford Wet and Wild (the aquapark was a good experience). Thank you very much, Fiona and Monica.

Shepherd's Hut
What a lovely private, romantic, secluded hut nestled in a small wood with fridge, bbq, deck chairs, sofa, bedding, towels and everything you'll need to cook! The hut was VERY clean as was the bed and the amazing private bathroom block. Fiona & Monica were lovely helpful hosts and we'd recommend this place to anyone. Also the food they provided was AMAZING (lunch and BBQ dinner). We found some lovely walks and I got to swim in the Thames which was idyllic in the great weather. The perfect weekend getaway not too far from London.

We had a wonderful stay at Rolling Fields. It was our first time glamping so we weren't sure what to expect but they had thought of everything. The tents were spacious and had everything we needed in them, from bbq kit to cutlery to cosy hot water bottles to warm the beds up. Our son had a great time playing in the play park on site. The whole area was visible from outside our tent which meant we could enjoy a drink by the fire while he played. We also really enjoyed nearby Beale wildlife park. We had a great time, looking forward to coming back!

Just wanted to Say a huuuuuuge thank you to Fiona for hosting Danielle, Owain and I for a wonderful weekend of recharging in the Oxfordshire countryside at Rolling Fields Glamping. Im not entirely sure one could be more comfortable under canvas anywhere. Big double beds, comfy mattresses, crisp white linen, thick duvets, hot water bottles, blankies... I haven't slept that well in ages. Added to that the fine company, grill for steaks, lamb chops etc, excellent company of friends and family, complimentary marshmallows for toasting over the fire for the kids, private shower rooms and toilets more akin to a cotswold country house hotel than a glamping site... it was just a weekend of pure comfort and adventure in the open air. Couldnt have asked for more! Also the little touches really added to it. Toasters, kettles in the tent, cutlery, plates, glasses, lamps all included. Just bring yourselves! Owain had a great time on the climbing frame too, coupled with a trip to nearby Beale Wildlife Park he didn't have a moment where he wasn't entertained or in awe of the beautiful countryside. Fiona and Monica made our stay an absolute blast. Thank you from the Stephens family! We will be back again....

We were lucky to find this at its opening, to escape for a wonderfully peaceful weekend. Even with rain we felt cosy and comfortable in the good size tent. Plenty of space for the kids to run around and use the play area. Good seating and bathroom for each tent and even gas barbecues for use. A great place to escape to.

We loved our trip to Rolling Fields. The tents are so well appointed - the owners have thought of everything and it's all to such a high standard. Private bathrooms are huge and beautifully clean. It's a really relaxed place within minutes of everything you need from shops to pubs to take-aways. We will most certainly be back.

We had an amazing weekend camping at Rolling Fields. Our lovely bell tent was the perfect size for the 4 of us with comfy futons with pillows and duvets and a cot for the little one. We had our own seating area and fire with stunning views. Lovely little touches like complimentary marshmallows and bamboo skewers so we could toast them over the fire, blankets, hot water bottles, a kettle, toaster, fridge, electric fire and our own bathroom made our stay so comfortable! There’s even a fab little play area for the kids!

We were blown away by this site- so small and quiet, but with luxurious facilities that we hadn’t expected. The shepherds hut is tucked away and feels very private, it has its own seating area and fire pit, is well kitted out with a fridge, kettle, toaster, electric fire and plenty of cooking utensils and crockery. The owners have clearly thought a lot about their guests and what will make them comfortable- we arrived to some marshmallows to toast on the fire and plenty of wood for the evening. And then there’s the bathrooms, honestly better than I’ve seen on any site! It was so reassuring to have our own bathroom during Covid restrictions, and it was very clean and luxurious with plenty of hot water, fluffy towels and a great shower. We chose to go to a local pub rather than use the BBQs, but again, so unexpected to have quality gas barbecues with picnic tables on offer for guests. As we were only sharing with 4 other tents, the whole experience felt personalised and peaceful. Congratulations to the team who have clearly put a lot of thought into this little gem. We will definitely be back!

We stayed in the Shepherd’s Hut and some friends were in a Bell Tent for a weekend. We had a brilliant time, playing with the kids in the field, and messing around in the play area. The kids absolutely loved it! We did some walks in the day, had lunch in a nearby pub and then lit a fire in the evening, toasted marshmallows and watched the sunset whilst enjoying the incredible view. We had our own toilet and shower so it felt completely COVID-safe. And there was so much space so everyone could keep their distance if they wanted to. The Shepherd’s hut is very cosy, and has its own private ourdoor sofa and fire pit. We thought it might be chilly at night but it was very warm, with plenty of blankets and an electric heater which we hardly needed. It was also great to have a kettle, toaster and fridge to ourselves. Will definitely go back to explore the area more, and bring friends and family. What a great find!

Really lovely experience and a great family trip. The site is a nice size with just the four tents and one Shepherd's Hut. The tents are very comfy and nicely decorated with plenty of amenities (fridge, heater, storage, kettle, toaster), while also having plenty of space to move about and good standing room. Shower and bathrooms are nicely done and you get a dedicated room for your family for the whole stay. The supplied fire pits, logs and marshmallows were a treat! Nice range of walks in the area, including down to the river. Our hosts Fiona and Monica were lovely and made sure that we had everything we needed on arrival. Highly recommended.

Wow! I have just spent a weekend at Rolling Fields Glamping and I have well and truly been converted. Monica and Fiona have added so many personal and thoughtful touches to the amazing site. The tents are beautifully furnished and have everything you could possibly need - from proper beds with duvets to tea and coffee and even blankets and hot water bottles. Each tent also has its own toilet and shower - nicer than my bathroom at home! There is a playground on site and gas barbecues for communal use. The Beetle and Wedge pub was only a 10 minute walk away. I will cherish the memory of sitting around the brazier with my family, toasting marshmallows and watching the beautiful sunset. We are already booking another trip!

Beautiful relaxing setting with obvious care and attention to the little details. The tents have everything you need and each one is uniquely decked out with gorgeous, cosy furnishings - deliciously comfortable beds, blankets, hot water bottles, heaters, fridge for your necessities (in my case wine!) all your kitchen bits and bobs, fairy lights and chandeliers and the bathrooms are by far the most high spec of any camping / glamping site we’ve been to. There’s gorgeous green views, BBQ’s, a big open field for little people to roar around and there will be a play area by May 2021. Sitting round a roaring fire as the sun set (once the littles were safely asleep in our tents) topped the stay off - honestly couldn’t have asked for more. Huge thanks to Monica and Fiona - we’ll certainly be back and will be recommending to friends and family.
From the host
About Rolling Fields Glamping Rolling Fields Glamping was originally set up by myself (Fiona) and my sister Monica, we both grew up on the farm. It was bought by our Dad in the 70s and is still a working farm, we have walked and played all over the farm and are now looking forward to sharing some of that with you. During Spring and Summer, you will be able to see sheep with their lambs in the field and combines and tractors busy collecting harvest. We are lucky to be surrounded by natural beauty and have an abundance of wildlife on the farm. You can expect to see Red Kites soar overhead, hear the owls hoot at night, see sheep grazing in the meadow and if you look carefully, you will often see hare and deer roaming in a field. The farm is in the small village of Moulsford, Oxfordshire. Moulsford is in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty lying by The Chilterns and in the Thames Valley. Monica has been a big part of Rolling Fields Glamping's vision and journey so far but is stepping down due to her expanding family and other work commitments, we wish her all the best and I look forward to continuing this journey with you! We have 2 beautiful 5-metre Luna Tents, which with the added height, really do make you feel like you are in luxury and also 2 gorgeous traditional 5m Bell Tents. These can take between 3-4 guests each. We also have a new 6m Nomadic Bell Tent which will have the capacity to sleep 5. They all have bedding and towels provided, including lovely warm duvets to keep you cosy. A travel cot can also be added to any of these. The tents have an electric fire stove inside to keep you warm on a chilly night and also their own outside seating area and brazier to have a fire and toast some marshmallows. We also have a Shepherd’s Hut which has been lovingly renovated by our step-brother Simon. This contains a small double bed, perfect for snuggling up to your loved one on a chilly night. The Shepherds hut is just nestled in the woods on the side of the field, giving it a slightly different feel to the tents. The hut has its own outside seating area and a more private outside area in the woods for you to sit with a fire.
