Souhegan Shores

2 sites · RVs, Tents21 acres · Merrimack, NH
1May'24 Update: The road in to the sites is drying out and the soft spots are firming up. All the same, if we get a deluge of rain this May, please don't drive to Merrimack and book the site 10 minutes before your expected arrival. (I think somebody must have booked it from my driveway) Best to check first with your host to ensure the access road is passable to your type of vehicle. (back to our regularly scheduled campsite description...) Site-1 is located under the trees adjacent to a 3 acre meadow and Christmas Tree farm. Camp above the bank of the Souhegan River in the shade of white pine and shag bark hickory and listen to the river tumble over the ledges upstream. In season, enjoy the swimming hole 100 feet from your campsite. On the other side of the fence is a pasture where two horses graze. If you don't like friendly dogs then you'll be better off on site 2 where we can better keep our dog Wilson from dropping in to visit. He loves people too much not to want to greet folks on Site 1. Site-2 is located at the downstream end of the property and is completely private. You'll see nothing from your site but trees and the river. If you or your dog don't like dogs, this is the site you want. It's far easier to keep Wilson away from this corner of the property. The other side of the river is town conservation land so the only people you're likely to see will be passing by in canoes or kayaks. Now that TENTRR has gone bankrupt, Site 2 is available year round. In the dry season, both sites are a great place to start a float trip and you'll likely have the next 1.5 miles all to yourself since the rapids upstream become unpassable in late July and August. If planning a winter trip, just check ahead to ensure your host has finished plowing the access road. If southern NH gets really clobbered with snow, check with your host about the possibility of constructing snow caves. You are only two traffic lights away from the Merrimack Premium Outlet Mall should you need something to do during inclement weather.

Quarry Brook

4 sites · Lodging, Tents100 acres · Putney, VT
It all started on a first date in Boston....Nick had to excuse himself to take a phone call. His cow had fled its pasture. Much to Tara's surprise in that moment, this man she had just met was finishing his engineering degree at Northeastern, but was simultaneously building a homestead in Vermont. Fast forward 7 years, and here we are, building the life we only dreamed of. We yearned for simplicity. Deeper connections to our surroundings and mother nature. A calmer sense of place. The satisfaction that comes from growing food. Creating with our hands. We're a working farm and homestead. Every day at Quarry Brook is a new adventure, and we wouldn’t have it any other way. We’re incredibly excited to share our little corner of southern Vermont and what we’re up to with you!

Country Camping

1 site · RV3 acres · Dunbarton, NH
THIS IS A CAMPSITE-NO CAMPER PROVIDED. Our 3-acre property is surrounded by beautiful countryside with lots country charm. At one point in the early 1900's it was home to itinerant farmers who farmed the nearby fields. Our property was the dumping grounds for the stones/rocks that were pulled from the fields. You will notice lots of them throughout the property! Our site is a well manicured area near our house on a 3-acre parcel. There is lots of sun and shade depending on when and where you happen to be on the site. There is plenty of space to pull out your favorite lawn game and a great firepit to keep warm at night. We are about 10 minutes from Clough State Park where there is plenty to do including swimming, paddling, biking, hiking, ATVing, etc. Our site has 50amp service and filtered well water (2 spigots). Depending on how long your RV is, you may not be able to put our your awning all the way.

The best camping near Greenfield State Park guide

Overview

About

Located in the southwest corner of New Hampshire, in the rustic Monadnock Region, the 400-acre Greenfield State Park is a recreational hot spot. In a landscape dotted with bogs, ponds, and a forest that stretches all the way to the shores of the pristine, undeveloped Otter Lake, activities on offer include canoeing, hiking, fishing, and swimming. Open from late-April through late-October, the primitive Greenfield Campground has 256 campsites without hookups. Overnighters also have access to a 900-foot beach that is only for campers’ use.

Tips for snagging a campsite

  1. Campsites are available only by reservation: Walk-ups are not available.
  2. Bookings can easily be secured online or by phone, up to 11 months in advance.
  3. Confirm your dates: A steep fee is charged for cancellations made within less than six days (on top of a non-refundable reservation fee).

When to go

The park’s main facilities operate on a seasonal schedule, but the gates are open all year-round. Swimming at the park’s three beaches (including the Campers’ Beach) is the top attraction here, making summer the busiest season. In the off-season, activities include snowmobiling and snowshoeing along the park’s snow-covered trails.

Know before you go

  • If visiting just for the day, it’s a good idea to make parking reservations in advance as parking is limited, especially on weekends and holidays. Parking reservations can be made up to 30 days in advance.
  • Canoe and kayak rentals are available from the camp store, located next to the lake, which also sells small grocery items, souvenirs, and refreshments,
  • Pets are permitted in designated areas including campsites, but must be leashed and supervised, and are not allowed on the beaches.
