Emmetts on Exmoor is part of the highest farm on the moor, up at an altitude of 1250 feet with gorgeous views out over the surrounding scenery of the national park. You won't find a better place for spotting wildlife right from your tent! Red deer herds regularly frequent the moor which is opposite your pitch. Other wildlife in the area include cuckoos, woodpeckers, golden plovers, foxes and much more!
This is a place that’s big on space but small on guest numbers (just four pitches which are not visible from one another), so there’s always plenty of space around to soak up the rural atmosphere, spot wildlife and play games. The site is unmanned so make sure you have all the info you need before setting off and it’s worth noting that Exmoor National Park was designated Europe’s first Dark Sky Reserve back in 2011, so you should hopefully be in for spectacular displays of stars by night too.
Unsurprisingly, this is a great area for walks and mountain bike rides; other activities in the area include things like fishing, sailing and pony trekking. If you’ve still got any energy left after that little lot, the farm’s all-weather tennis court is available to hire for a game or two.
There is a proper shower and loo available next to the car parking area and all pitches are approximately a 500 metre walk away from this area through woodland and across pasture. Remember the site is off-grid
so it’s a good idea to remember to bring along a torch. Guests are welcome to bring along a barbecue or hire a firepit and purchase wood onsite. Simonsbath (5 minutes) has a pub and a tearoom and Exford and Withypool (both within 15 minutes) have good village shops for picking up any other supplies you might need. The Poltimore Arms and The Exmoor Forest Inn are two very local pubs that are well worth a visit.

The campsite is located just outside the small hamlet of Martinhoe, with direct access to the South West Coast Path for spectacular coastal walks straight from your pitch. A historic Roman beacon sits nearby, and the surrounding farmland is rich in wildlife — deer are often spotted in neighbouring fields, alongside birds of prey and songbirds.
Facilities are simple and low-impact, with a compost toilet and a water point provided. There is no electricity, no showers and no Wi-Fi — a delightfully off-grid setting designed for those who value peace, space and time outdoors.
Spacious, calm and family-friendly, this is an ideal place to slow down, reconnect with nature and enjoy a truly rural coastal escape.

Set on a contractor farm is Porte Meadows. Just on the edge of Exmoor National Park, 10 miles from Woolacombe beach and 12 miles to the busy town of Barnstaple. We are back to basics off grid but with proper toilets and showers, filtered drinking water and waste points. Set the edge of Exmoor, we have unrivalled coastal views, direct access to the South West Coast Path and Combe Martin bay is just a little walk away (perfect for paddle-boarding and dolphin spotting!).
Choose your pitch, settle down by a fire pit and watch the sun set across Combe Martin bay. With pizza’s available on some weekends, breakfast baguettes for breakfast and a selection of farm produce available - we have everything you could need, we are campervan friendly too.
With footpaths from the farm in all directions you can join the South West Coast Path or just ramble down to the village where there are shops, cafes and pubs a plenty.
With full flushing toilets and hot showers, as well as a washing up area, there is even an old railway carriage with electric plugs to charge your phone or dry your hair, with a fridge and freezer to look after your supper too.
We are a small site focusing on that quiet get-away. There is no road noise, just the farmer going about his day job, who’s more than happy to chat about the wildlife, birds and weather!

We have a local pub you can walk to across farmers fields about a 20 minute ramble. South Molton, a 3 minute drive away, has a small artisan market voted the best in the UK

We had such an incredible time at Westland farm. The Shepard’s hut was perfect for a stay with two small children. It felt very private, and the gated garden area was perfect for our dog and children.
The views and sunsets were totally stunning, especially with the reservoir in the distance.
We loved the hot tub, a real treat. And our son loved seeing all the farm animals. Couldn’t recommend more!

We camped in tents on Poppy Patch for 4 nights over half term. With our friends we got lucky and had the whole field to ourselves. I’d rate it in my top 3 camping experiences of all time. No frills, but decent showers and clean toilets. I think hot water at the washing up sinks would be a welcome upgrade. The whole bring your own loo roll thing I kind of understand but you may as well provide it, it’s the norm at campsites now. We hope to return!

We loved the relaxed feel of the site (no allocated pitches, plenty of space), the shower and washing up facilities (very good and sympathetic to the environment) and being on a working farm (our children loved checking for eggs!). Nicky was a great host: welcoming and helpful but unobtrusive.

Girt Down campsite is a special place. From the hill you can catch a ringside view of the most beautiful sunsets and you are right next to the SW Coast path. The bathroom and kitchen facilities are clean and sufficient and it’s an easy walk down to Combe Martin for a great fish n chip supper at the Black and White cafe. Would thoroughly recommend.

The views over Little Hangman and Combe Martin from this site are just breathtaking! Super chilled and peaceful vibe (despite it being a bank hol weekend), clean facilities and thoughtful touches like a tea & coffee station. We had a fab stay and will be back!
