Andrea is pleased to offer a little luxury for those who want to camp at Downshay Farm in a comfortable bed. Farm is a working farm in the heart of the Isle of Purbeck, ideally located for exploring the stunning World Heritage Site coastline. The Pike family has farmed here since 1956. The farmhouse is largely Victorian although parts of the house and some farm buildings are much older. The accommodation looks out over the lovely views of Corfe Castle and the Purbeck Hills. The seaside town of Swanage is just over 4 miles away as are the sandy beaches of Studland Bay. Local footpaths and Swanage Steam Railway also make exploring Purbeck easy, and we are a few minutes’ walk from Harmans Cross Station. Enjoy the sandy beaches of Shell Bay, Studland and Swanage or go rock pooling or fossil hunting at Kimmeridge Bay. The Coastal Path will take you along the coast to Durlston Country Park, Dancing Ledge and Winspit. The deserted village of Tyneham and its own bay is a short drive away, then follow the scenic road over the Ranges to Lulworth and Durdle Door. Local attractions include Monkey World and Bovington Tank Museum, and a walk through the RSPB bird sanctuary at Arne to Poole Harbour is recommended.

What an amazing spot in nature! This was an incredible getaway, such a quiet and natural space with birds, surrounded by trees and the very nearby woodlands which are covered in mushrooms, more than we could count! It was so peaceful, we loved the natural space and eco-friendly touches. We definitely want to return again! It was magical!

Really great site. Managed really well. Amazing spot in the woods and plenty of space between yourself and other campers. Firepits are provided and you can buy wood for fires if you need. There are some great walks nearby and plenty of stargazing! Would really recommend this site. Had a really wonderful weekend here. (There is a closing time of 7pm which is to be aware of and not being able to enter after that point so just something to be aware if traffic or travelling far after work.) The toilets, eco and flushing, were really good. Didn't use the showers so cant say!

We had a really lovely stay in the Bustard Hut. It was peaceful, quaint, and beautifully designed. The interior was unique and thoughtfully put together, and the hut had great facilities considering its limited kitchen space. The little touches like the marshmallows, bread, and condiments were very much appreciated. The only downsides were that the hut wasn’t quite as private as it appeared in the pictures, as we could see and be seen by the neighbouring hut from the hot tub, which wasn’t quite what we imagined. Also, there weren’t any trolleys available on arrival, so there was a lot of back and forth with bags since you can’t park next to the hut. A few things that would be useful to have are some barbecue tools and maybe a fire mitt, as we had to use kitchen utensils to manage the fire. Overall, we had a lovely stay and really enjoyed the thoughtful touches throughout.

Weekend Trip to Sindles Farm Glamping and Camping

We had the most amazing overnight stay at the Shepherd’s Hut with our three young children and our dog. Laura gave us the warmest welcome - she was so friendly, helpful, and made us feel completely at home right away. The hut itself was spotless, beautifully presented, and thoughtfully equipped with everything we could possibly need. The kids absolutely loved exploring the surroundings, and it was such a safe, peaceful space for them to run around and enjoy the fresh air. Our dog was just as happy - plenty of room for walks and a truly pet-friendly atmosphere. Evening by the firepit under the stars was magical, and waking up to the sound of birds and stunning countryside views was the perfect escape from everyday life. Laura went above and beyond to make our stay special. We honestly didn’t want to leave!

Quiet, sheltered and peaceful spot. Great location for using as a base to explore North Hampshire villages and walking trails. Was lovely in The Clearing - so much so we stayed on for an extra night! Facilities are rustic/simple (head torch needed to use the toilets day and night!) but they do the job as long as you’re prepared to get back to basics!

A very spacious campsite with well-maintained composting facilities. The scenic drive down to the site is beautiful, and the clear night skies make it perfect for stargazing. Martins and owls were active both day and night, adding to the atmosphere. On some alternate nights, music played nearby from around 10 pm to 4 am. While noticeable, it was at a consistent and tolerable volume, and importantly, it wasn’t accompanied by disruptive behaviour.

A little piece of heaven! 💫 Stayed for 4 nights but felt I could’ve lived there. So well thought out and finished to a really high standard. Lovely site, 3 open fields to just choose your spot. Eco loos and 2 bathrooms, had to wait a few minutes at times but not an issue. Great cafe on site with very friendly staff. We walked along the old tram line and the river walk into Wareham which was beautiful and it’s an easy 15 minute walk to the pub for dinner. Will definitely be back next August 😊

Both me and my son absolutely loved our mini getaway, the campsite is such a hidden gem. You can travel by foot in the nearby area if you follow the public footpath as you leave the campsite, plenty of cafes, pubs and shops which is great! Also fire pits and wood available which is always a bonus, highly recommend this campsite to everyone and will be returning 😊 Jason was super helpful upon arrival too. Thanks for having us!

Camping feels less crowded and it was very peaceful. The compost toilets and showers were OK too. I like the tearoom which was a few minutes walk from the campsite which served very delicious food.

Where to go

New Forest National Park

The New Forest National Park surrounds Lymington, extending from the coast to an area near Salisbury inland. With its miles of heather moorland and woodland, it’s a haven for wildlife, including the wild New Forest ponies. It’s a short drive inland to Brockenhurst, the town at the heart of the New Forest National Park—and you can use the New Forest open-top bus service to travel between the towns and the forest’s sights if you don’t fancy the drive. From Brockenhurst, hire bikes and head out on one of the many car-free cycle routes. There are also riding stables and plenty of bridleways and footpaths for keen walkers. Wild camping isn’t allowed in the New Forest, but many formal campsites and caravan parks dot the area.

Isle of Wight

Lymington is one of the access points to the Isle of Wight, with a regular ferry crossing to Yarmouth on the island’s northwest. The Isle of Wight is a popular holiday destination and part of the island is a designated Area of Outstanding National Beauty (AONB). Campers staying in Lymington can visit the island on a day trip but there are many camping options there too, from coastal campgrounds to those inland and within the AONB.

Cranborne Chase AONB

Spanning Hampshire, Dorset, Somerset, and Wiltshire, the Cranborne Chase AONB is an important area of chalk grasslands and escarpments, ancient woodlands, and archaeological sites. From the top of the highest point in Cranborne Chase, the 908-foot Win Green, visitors can see all the way to the Isle of Wight in one direction and the Quantock Hills AONB in the other. There are many places to camp throughout Cranborne Chase.

When to go

Summer is the best time to camp in and around Lymington. The temperatures are usually mild, there’s less rain, and the days are long. School holidays tend to be the busiest time to camp and the Isle of Wight is especially popular. Some campsites are closed outside of summer given tent camping in an English winter can be uncomfortable, but cabins or cottages can be booked for off-season travel instead.
