A small, campfire-friendly and dog-friendly campsite with approachable hosts

Pick your own pitch in Small Trees, a laid-back site in prime position for exploring some of southern England’s best scenery, including the sprawling New Forest National Park. This pop-up campsite is named after its diminutive orchard, with trees lining this well-maintained five acres – neighboured by grazing sheep – and producing sloes and blackberries ripe for picking in late summer. An affordable and relaxing trip for families, there are only 20 pitches here to ensure peace and quiet, reserved for tents and small campervans only.

The lack of designated pitches lets you decide on your own spot for setting up your tent, made easy thanks to the flat ground. Amenities are simple but useful – male and female toilets, along with a water supply to fill up your bottles before you go on a walk. And there are some mighty walks awaiting, as a footpath into a woodland trail is accessible right next to the site (the path can take you right into Romsey if you’re up for a lengthier stroll). Bring the dog with you for some great walks, including the nearby Canada Common, a nice and easy looped route with donkeys and horses to meet along the way. There’s a popular dog-friendly pub en route, too, if you want to stop off for something to drink.

Back at camp, leave the kids to play with the rope swing or to hide away in the secretive stick dens. Then your evenings can be spent around a hired firepit, with wood-fired pizzas available on select nights along with s’mores kits to cook under the starry night sky – there’s very little light pollution here, with Small Trees doing its part by featuring no artificial lights. Bring those torches for when it gets dark!

Tent Pitch
Incredible camp site. The rope swing was very popular with my two children and the free tea and coffee in the morning was very well received. The hosts were fantastic. Ensuring we were checked in and provided extra kindling when the fire wouldn't catch. She was always a message away if needed. Would recommend.

Campervan Pitch
Amazing place to stay, both for tent camping & campervan. The hosts were lovely. The toilets & morning tea/coffee were an added bonus! The kids loved the space & being able to wander. Very peaceful sat around the fire pit watching the night sky too. We’ll definitely be back

Tent Pitch
Amazing hidden gem!!
What a Campsite! We booked last minute for a bank holiday weekend, I was surprised to find that the site was very spacious in spite of being fully booked, with a real wild-camp feeling! Loved being able to choose our own pitch, and the free tea and coffee in the morning was just lovely. We will definitely be back soon

Small Trees is a large 5 acre field adorned with a variety of small trees and large open space! We are minutes from the New Forest, Romsey, Peppa Pig World and a short drive to Salisbury. You will find some beautiful dog walks nearby at Canada Common and plenty to do in the New Forest. Conveniently, there is a bus stop just a few metres up the road from our track and if you are interested in a good car boot - Shootash Carboot is across the road. On arrival, choose to pitch amongst the trees for a little privacy or in a more open spot. There are only 30 pitches that can accommodate up to 6 guests, campers choose where to pitch upon arrival. Drive through the gate and to your chosen spot. Please drive slowly. Campfires are welcome as long as they are raised and there are a number of firepits to hire on site on a first come first served basis. Wood is available to buy on site also. Dogs (2 max) are welcome as we are so close to the New Forest for some beautiful walking spots. Our field is free of any artificial light and has an incredible star filled sky at night. Download a planet app and spot the planets! Flushing toilets and water/pot wash sink on site. Hot shower new for 2024. Free tea and coffee set out by 9am for campers.
Food and drink

The town of Romsey has a number of great pubs and restaurants, all a 5-minute drive away. Josie’s cafe is an independent coffee shop with a great local reputation, serving delicious breakfast and lunch along with top-notch milkshakes – the biscoff milkshake comes highly recommended. The Three Tuns is a picturesque spot, a 300-year-old and Grade II listed country pub, impossible to miss with its leaf-coated exterior. Enjoy a Sunday lunch here in its outdoor terrace. The Rockingham Arms is the place to stop in if you’re heading to Canada Common, an old village pub that's very dog-friendly – the ideal spot to take your pup before a long walk.

Nearby attractions

The New Forest National Park can be reached in a 10-minute drive, ideal for ramblers, cyclists, and wildlife watchers alike. Walk or take a bike ride through its diverse landscape smattered with ancient woodland, and see its famous ponies along with other grazing livestock such as cattle, pigs, and sheep. The Canada Common walk is a great place to take your dogs, an open space where they can run off-lead – though make sure you're keeping an eye for the livestock that also roams around here. In the National Park you can also visit Paultons Park, home to Peppa Pig World. This theme park is a great day out for the kids, with over 70 rides – including rollercoasters for the daredevils – along with Peppa Pig-themed attractions for the younger ones.
