Glamping in New Forest National Park

·

If the thought of setting up your own tent does not fit in with your idea of a holiday, why not opt for the easy option and book in for a spot of glamping in the New Forest instead? With the rise and rise of glamping, the Hipcamp team now spend just as much time checking out treehouses, tipis and luxury tents as we do traditional campsites and there are plenty of New Forest glamping sites that we think offer something special. We’ve sought out and selected from the geodesic domes, gypsy caravans, shepherd’s huts, bell tents, yurts and safari tents so we can bring you our pick of the best glamping sites in the New Forest and beyond.

If you're a first-time camper, glamping can be a great way to test the water without having to buy all the camping gear. Parents with young families also often find glamping offers a great half-way point between more traditional self-catering accommodation and camping. If it’s a real camping experience you want, you might like to stick to the canvas cover of a simple bell tent, tipi or yurt but if you fancy more luxury, perhaps try a shepherd’s hut with all mod cons.

We are a small, friendly site on a working farm in the beautiful South Downs National Park. We have shepherds huts, bell tents and a land pod in an old sheep paddock, all with private fire pits. We’re surrounded by footpaths and bridleways that can be explored all day, and 10 minutes drive from the sea. We also have a small grass-pitch campsite that opens in the summer for tents and camper vans.

We are a family run farm situated in the beautiful Frome valley. The farm has a range of interests from the traditional Jersey milking cows to a community of workshops used by local craftsmen. The cafe serves cream teas from Easter to the end of September and pizzas are sold in evenings during the summer months. Ours is a small family run camp site with the River Frome on one side, next to the medieval buildings of Stowford Farm. The river is suitable for fishing, boating, swimming and paddling. Historic Bradford-on-Avon is only a 5 minute drive and the City of Bath 15 minutes. For those who enjoy more rural pleasures, 200 metres from the campsite Farleigh Hungerford boasts the only river swimming club in the country, and you can become an instant member for a very small fee.

Tucked away in a secluded pocket of countryside, Nordic Glamping offers an off-grid retreat designed for those who seek peace, privacy and a gentler pace of life. There is a lot to explore! This untouched, undulating landscape is home to thoughtfully designed, eco-friendly facilities: composting toilets, hot copper-headed showers, fresh running chalk stream filtered water and a covered kitchen and dining area. Shaded spaces for gathering or unwinding allow you to unwind and disconnect in nature comfortably. Each yurt has been handcrafted by ourselves and contains everything you need for a cosy stay on site. Our handmade beds have comfortable mattresses and are dressed with organic cotton or linen bedding, wool blankets and super soft pillows. Everything here is off-grid for a low as impact to nature as possible - although a reliable 4G signal is on hand for those absolutely necessary connections ;-) Nordic Glamping shares Botswicky Copse with award-winning organic farmer Helen Browning. The Ibberton Yurt Tucked away in the peaceful Dorset village of Ibberton, at the foot of Bulbarrow Hill, our traditional Mongolian yurt offers a private countryside escape within the grounds of The Ibberton. The yurt sleeps up to four guests and combines the character and simplicity of glamping with proper home comforts. Inside there is a double bed and two single beds, along with comfortable seating, Wi-Fi, a fridge and space to relax. Guests also have their own separate private shower room with walk-in shower and toilet. Outside, the yurt has its own deck and private garden area with a covered cookhouse, gas hob and BBQ facilities. The setting is particularly peaceful, with mature trees, a running stream and very little passing traffic. On clear nights, guests can lie in bed and look up through the yurt’s central crown at the stars. The Ibberton pub is only a short walk away, serving homemade seasonal food, local ales and Dorset cider. It gives guests the choice of cooking something simple outside or wandering over for lunch, dinner or a drink without needing to drive. The area is especially good for walkers and cyclists. Footpaths and quiet lanes begin almost from the door, while the Ibberton Millennium Path runs through the parish and is waymarked locally. Maps are available from The Ibberton. Bulbarrow Hill and Ibberton Hill are close by, with far-reaching views across the Blackmore Vale and surrounding Dorset countryside. The ancient Wessex Ridgeway also passes nearby. A popular local walk links Ibberton with Bulbarrow Hill, taking around two hours and covering roughly 6–7km, while longer routes can take guests through Woolland, Milton Abbas and the surrounding chalk downland. (Tess Of The Vale) For days out, guests can explore Sturminster Newton and the North Dorset Trailway, Sherborne and its Abbey, Shaftesbury and Gold Hill, Blandford Forum and Dorchester. The Jurassic Coast is also within reach for a full day out. Guest capacity Up to 4 guests. The Shepherd's Hut at Coombe Farm Glamping is only an hour or so from London and within easy reach of Goodwood, Cowdray and the south coast; yet once you're here, you'll feel as if you've stepped through the back of the wardrobe and into the ancient woodland that surrounds, unimpeded views towards the South Downs and barely another soul around. The hut stands alone in the field, so you will exclusively enjoy the tranquility the land has to offer. The Hut is equipped with fresh linen and towels, made extra cozy and warm with a beautiful flame and clean burning bio ethanol burner which creates a relaxed ambience, providing amazing heat for the chillier season stay. The wash area is compact with everything you will need for alfresco catering and dining, including a great camp compressor fridge. We also provide equipment to cook on the ample fire pit for an authentic camp experience. We have a revitalizing, hot and spacious shower, all run from our off grid system. We also provide luxury toiletries. Our loo is composting, extremely clean and freshly set up for every new guest and in keeping with our off grid, low-fi ethos. Our family farm, Durleigh Marsh Farm is in Rogate, 5 min drive from Rake or about an hours walk through the woodland south from the hut. The popular Tea room offers a great breakfast and lunch menu. Booking is advisable. Between the nearby traditional market towns of Petersfield and Haslemere you will discover a diverse choice of places to shop, dine and drink. The site is encompassed by beautiful walks and trails taking you further into the heart of the South Downs.
