Peaceful, off-grid vibes and walks along the Trent Valley Way, yes please… Millview Camping is a completely off-grid site just 20 minutes’ drive from Nottingham city centre and 15 minutes’ walk from the 116-mile Trent Valley Way. With westerly views over the Trent Valley and in the shadows of a ruined 18th-century windmill, this is a peaceful and scenic place to take a break indeed… Well-positioned too, with a generous handful of pubs, restaurants and cafés a scenic 35 minutes’ walk away in Gunthorpe alongside the river Trent. Radcliffe on Trent and Bingham are five minutes’ drive away for any other amenities you might (supermarkets, shops, restaurants, pubs and the likes). And if you’re after even more of a buzz, Nottingham city centre is 25 minutes’ drive away. Even with such good access to so many towns and the big city, the site itself is remote. It has 10 acres of hay meadows and woodlands for guests to explore and, of course, sublime sunsets over the valley. If you prefer to keep your whole stay pretty rural, the Vale of Belvoir and the historic Belvoir Castle are 20 minutes’ drive away from the site. It’s no frills here. The grass and woodland pitches have facilities including water and portaloo access. Dogs are also permitted, as are barbecues.

What a little Derbyshire gem: back to basics Whitehouse Farm Campsite is a simple site in a most scenic setting five minutes’ drive from the pretty village of Tideswell. The site’s central location in the Peak District National Park means it’s a top spot for those who want to ramble or ride bikes – several circular trails leave from Tideswell and the traffic-free Monsal Trail is a five-minute drive away. And there’s plenty more activity if you require it too, as activity centres nearby can sort you out days of horse riding, abseiling, climbing and caving. All this activity isn’t mandatory, of course – this is an equally fine location for days pottering off to local pubs, pigging out on pudding in Bakewell or taking a leisurely stroll around the Chatsworth Estate, 20 minutes away. And if even that’s too much, you’d be welcome to spend some time loafing about on site: there’s heaps of space here, and as facilities have been kept quite minimal (just showers and toilets) there should be a good serving of peace and quiet to go with it all. Guests are welcome to light up a barbecue or campfire for cookouts and keeping warm; Tideswell’s the place for supermarket supplies, and it’s also handily got a fish and chip shop and a couple of pubs for days when your firelighting skills aren't up to much.

So much space! I like how the site has separate areas for families and social groups and then quieter areas for those looking for some peace and quiet. Good facilities, a little dated maybe but all clean and in good working order. Where else can you get a site with toilets and showers for £12 a night? I enjoyed my time there and as its only an hour away from home, I'll definitely be back!

We had such a fantastic time at this campsite. Was really lovely having the individual pitches and pizza on site. Facilities were also lovely and well thought out with extra touches. Really well equipped cooking facilities. I don't know if it was because we booked through Hipcamp but we didn't really get any info before arrival and found it a bit tricky to locate our pitch as we couldn't locate the map of the campsite. But a very minor issue!

The kids had a great time and made some little campsite friends. Great location with the lake nearby and plenty of activities. Highly recommended

This was one of the nicest campsites I’ve stayed at. Beautiful views, proper toilets and shower blocks with hot water and enough that there was never a queue despite a full site on Saturday. There were also drinking water taps and sinks to do the washing up at. Plenty of walks nearby. The only downside was some feral children in a neighbouring tent but that is no fault of the site managers, rather irresponsible parents that didn’t control their kids but unfortunately they seem to get everywhere! 10/10 on the site though. Would 100% stay here again.

Had a great weekend camping here. Beautiful view of the hills right in front of us. Cute lil rope swing for the kids, surprisingly good toilets & plenty of free fire pits. At times, feels a little overcrowded, but overall a great value for money.

If you are looking for a peaceful, scenic place to pull up for the night in a campervan, Chrome Hill Campers near Hollinsclough is an absolute gem. Capped at just five pitches, it gives you all the quiet and privacy you could ask for without feeling overcrowded. The shared toilet and shower block is modern, piping hot, and kept exceptionally clean. There is also a fresh water station, chemical disposal point, and outdoor dishwashing area.

Great location and loved the amount of privacy you get, as pitches are well separated. It was especially nice to be in the forest and a bit shaded, with the heatwave! Loved playing disc golf, Lee was great and really informative. We got two hole in ones! Our only downside is that the toilets did get smelly/dirty within just a few hours. Creating a toilet block and having a shower on site might be something to consider in the future.
