Luxury bell tent glamping in the grounds of Netflix's most famous castle

Castle-spotters will know all about historic Belvoir Castle, which has existed here in various forms since the 11th century. Its current incarnation is a relatively youthful 200 years old, and boasts a striking skyline of towers, battlements and soaring chimneys that harks back to an earlier era. There are similarities in design to Windsor Castle, a fact not lost on the producers of Netflix drama The Crown, who used Belvoir as a stand-in for the Queen's home. It's all a perfect, dramatic backdrop to new glamping venture, a collection of fully-furnished bell tents adjacent to Belvoir Castle, offering high-quality glamping accommodation fit for any King or Queen.

The bell tents are nestled on a wooded grassy slope, overlooking the Vale of Belvoir and the low hills of Nottinghamshire and Leicestershire, as well as Belvoir Castle itself. Each tent is comfortably furnished with a proper double bed and mattress with full bedding provided, as well as rugs and lamps to create a cosy, welcoming space. Outside, there's a useful wooden table and benches, ideal for alfresco meals made fresh from the BBQ, or you can settle into the camping chairs around a mini fire bowl. A scattering of fairy lights and bunting help to create a relaxed, holiday feel.

A new state-of-the-art shower block has recently been installed for glampers, with seven wet rooms available, each with a shower, sink, toilet, mirror and changing space, so you have all the comforts you need. For those in the mood for a bit of DIY, then each tent comes with a single camping stove with one gas bottle as well as a cool box and basic cooking and cleaning kit. You can find a washing up area with hot and cold running water at the shower block too.

To take the pressure off having to fend for yourselves you can pre-order breakfast baskets. The bell tents are adjacent to the three-acre landscaped site, The Engine Yard, which has been repurposed to celebrate local food, drink and artisan shopping. Sip cocktails at the Balloon Bar, enjoy tasty woodfired pizzas at the Fuel Tank or opt for a hot chocolate from Café Allez. However you choose to spend your stay here, you're sure to have a royal time of it.

Shepherd's Hut
Relaxed weekend in the Shepherds Hut, perfect for two and good facilities. It was great to have the balloon bar and engine room next door. It's a shame you can't see the castle from the campsite, but that is a minor detail.

Shepherd's Hut
beautiful clear view of the countryside scenery, chilling on the steps of the Shepard hut with a cuppa, & with the warmth from the outside fire bowl at my feet!

Bell Tent - f03c
Camping with a view
We loved our stay at Belvoir! We stayed in tent 1 and we love the raised up view of the vale and the lovely farm animals. The facilities were immaculate and having your own private bathroom was a saviour. We were so fortunate as we had the whole site to ourselves, and we felt really safe. The tent itself was brilliantly well equipped and bed was comfy.

Such a beautiful glamping site! The bell tent was spacious and beautifully laid out with everything we needed. The views across the fields are gorgeous all times of day. Chris was very helpful and accommodating. We had a wonderful stay!

Shepherd's Hut
I stayed in a Bell Tent with my two children (aged 13 and 11) and we all had a great time. The added extra of a cream tea hamper was perfect, the children loved making s'mores over the fire pit, and pizza from the Engine Yard was perfect. We will definitely be back. Thank you!

Excellent stay on the Glamping site in the beautiful Shepherds Hut, small But well equipped and had great quality products on offer in the tea and coffee , bedding and blankets were all exceptional quality and felt very cosy. The Engine Yard offers fantastic restaurants And refreshments as well as quaint and luxurious shops . Plenty of near by great restaurants, we ate in the Wheel Inn and the Chequers Inn, both very good hosts and offering delicious meals. We had a wonderful time, my only regret is that we didn’t book for longer, I was mesmerised by the beautiful views, the peace and quiet and the superb site. Bathroom facilities were excellent and within a very short distance of our hut ! The hosts were very attentive , Chris was exceptional and greeted us when we arrived, he showed us around the site and we had the reassurance that either he or George was around if we needed anything . The Castle Entrance itself was within 5 min walk from the site and was well worth the visit , it was beautiful, well preserved and presented and the gardens stunningly beautiful . We returned to our site where we enjoyed alcoholic beverages in the Fuel Tank whilst enjoying the sun and the pleasant environment we were in . We also enjoyed hearty breakfasts there, where food was delicious and staff very pleasant . We wouldn’t hesitate to return to this area and Glamping Site , very enjoyable experience , one that I was sad to come to an end so quickly . We will return ! Thank you to Chris for making us feel so welcome.

From the host
Our site is pretty unique - it's not every day you glamp next door to a castle - yes a castle. Not any castle, but Belvoir Castle - as seen on the world famous drama, The Crown. Our tents are nestled on a wooded grassy slope, overlooking the Vale of Belvoir, located next to The Engine Yard; a three acre landscaped site, carefully repurposed to celebrate local food, drink and artisan shopping with an opportunity to relax and unwind in stunning surroundings. Sip cocktails at the Balloon Bar, enjoy tasty woodfired pizzas at the Fuel Tank or savour a scrummy hot chocolate from Café Allez after a local countryside walk… what more could you ask for?
Food and drink

Explore The Engine Yard for good food options. There's a café, a delicatessen, a chocolatier and a butchers and it's just a couple of minutes’ walk to The Fuel Tank (014762 47059) serving fresh wood-fired pizzas, delicious afternoon tea options and light lunches. The Balloon Bar (014762 47061) is also located at The Engine Yard, with a quirky interior full of rustic touches and miniature hot air balloons filling the ceiling, it's the perfect setting to enjoy their extensive cocktail menu.
