Just how remote would you like your holiday accommodation to be? If the answer is fair to middling, Damside Campsite might just be the place for you: this pop-up spot is surrounded by the glorious wilderness of Peak District National Park. Doesn’t get much more blissfully peaceful than that – except for the occasional lowing cow, all is stillness here.
Having said that, don’t worry: you won’t have to scramble across hills and dales for a pint: a traditional pub serving real ales and home-cooked food is right in the village of Peak Forest, a 20-minute walk away. Both the site and the pub welcome dogs, though it might be wise to keep them on a lead when walking past the farm animals.
This is wild camping; facilities might not be abundant (there are no showers), but they are well maintained and include a portable toilet and a washing-up area. There is also fresh running water, and you’re welcome to start a campfire or a barbecue. You can grab essentials in the village shop, or head to Chapel-en-le-Frith (10 minutes) or Buxton (15 minutes).
If you’re here with the kids, the flat, grassy field where you’ll set up your tent makes for an excellent play area on which to run around, kick a ball or fly a kite. A nearby playground has swings, slides, a small adventure course and a multisport pitch.
Walking paths start from right outside the farm, or you can drive to hiking areas like Chee Dale Stepping Stones (10 minutes), a dramatic gorge on the River Wye.

Shire Camping is located in a peaceful 10 acre meadow looking towards Edge Hill. Spacious and with running drinking water, hot showers and flushing toilets. There is a footpath running alongside it taking you 25 minutes to a village shop one way and 20 minutes to a good pub the other way, all across fields. There are some amazing walks to do from the site, and being on the edge of the cotswolds there are plenty of pretty villages and market towns to explore. There are also some well regarded cycling routes in the area.

This is a lovely site with a great toilet block which is clean...would give a hotel a run for their money! The pub down the road is about 25mins walk and they deliver to the site. Lovely walks around the area. A definite site to stop at with a late check out making it a relaxing time from beginning to end! Thanks 😊

Ease and convenience are the name of the game when camping. Pub is super close, definitely stop by after a hike for a pint and fries. We got to view our hiking spot from our tent. The hot water showers are a dream and the toilets are clean and well stocked. Site was not crowded and campers were quiet. For context, we stayed 29 and 30 August 2025. 10/10 would go back. Take coins for showers!

My partner, dog and I had the best time camping for 3 nights in our tent box at The Hollies.
The toilets and showers were great and cleaned regularly.
The views from the top field were gorgeous!
Everyone was friendly and welcoming but also left you to it - the perfect balance for a relaxing trip.
The pizza/ burger van & cafe was a lovely touch to enjoy on the weekends. S’mores kit available to buy which were great for a late night treat around the fire pits available to rent for cheap!
There are plenty of beautiful walks nearby. We personally loved walking to the top of the roaches then enjoying the view of it from our campsite that same evening!
We throughly enjoyed our stay and would 1000% recommend.

It was mine and my partners first camping trip together with our dog and honestly couldn't have had a better experience! It was easy to get to and the toilets and showers were very well kept and clean:) The campsite is very well set up and not to noisy at any point in the day but a perfect balance. Would 100% return and couldn't recommend more!! Harry was also a lovely host who makes you feel nothing less then at home here!

Really liked the spacious pitches and they all came with a firepit, a really nice touch. Lovely little walk to the local pub The Peacock which was a nice little spot for evening drinks. The only thing that let the site down was not having recycling bins available for waste.

Me and my partner loved our camping trip. The camp was very spacious, clean and the showers/toilets were clean and well maintained (we witnessed staff multiple times in and out cleaning and making sure toilet roll/hand wash was stocked up).
We were able to hire a firepit and also able to buy additional wood on camp which was great. This gave us a really cosy feeling whilst enjoying the stars.
There was also a little pizza place on the camp called Pipers Pizzeria, this was wonderful and was a great way to not have to worry about tea and just enjoy the night.
Louise (the host) was really responsive and helpful. I got in contact with Louise a few times with queries (sorry Louise for being a pest) and she was really friendly and made the stay feel very easy. Louise was great!
Thank you for a wonderful stay and we will definately recommend and be back multiple times in the future!
