Tents-only, family-friendly camping in the Northamptonshire countryside with gorgeous rural walks.

Scenic, spacious, and well-suited for families, Arthingworth Camping provides a pop-up campsite just for tents, in glorious Northamptonshire countryside. Affordable and back-to-basics, this six-acre riverbank spot is a haven for adventurers—cycle along the Brampton Valley Way, explore the eerie Kelmarsh Tunnel, and conclude your day with a two-minute stroll to the local pub.

The generous pitches ensure you and yours have enough room to relax and play games, and you can choose where to set up your tent—Sidom’s Ford River runs through the site, so you can pitch near its bank. Amenities are very basic—there's no hot water or showers—but you still have portaloos and even a lovely farm pantry providing locally sourced treats (pop in to pick up local honey, eggs, or firewood for your hireable firepit).

Remember to pack your walking boots to explore the various local routes; all handily signposted on a map provided by your Host, Eva. Arthingworth Camping is dog friendly, so it's a good place to wear out your four-legged friend too. Eva has set up a doggy station on camp to ensure your pooch is well-pampered with treats and a water bowl.

Further afield, drive out to the attractive nearby town of Market Harborough, voted one of the best places to live in the Midlands and a thriving hub of independent shops and handsome old buildings, or spend the day exploring Northampton.

NEW FOR 2024: A brand new composting toilet block! Turn on your exploration mode… surrounded by walks in the Northamptonshire countryside and cycle paths down disused railway lines, you won’t be sitting around at Arthingworth Camping. Unless you want to, of course… after all, this family-friendly site is on the banks of a gentle river and there’s over six acres of spacious pitches for you to lounge around on. This is a small, family-run back to basics camp site with super scenery, so there are no hot water or shower facilities. However, there are toilet facilities (Brand NEW for 2024) and cold drinking water to ready you for the countryside walks that start directly from the site. Fire pits and BBQs are allowed as long as they are raised from the floor and we have dedicated paving slabs on each pitch. There are a very limited number of fire bowls to hire. If you’re after something a little stronger, there’s a pub two minutes’ walk from the site and two more pubs and the Warner's Distillery a 30 minute stroll or five minutes’ drive away (the latter runs tours and tastings, if you fancy it). Off-road cycling is also on the cards. It’s a five minute cycle to the Brampton Valley Way, a 14-mile car free route down a disused railway, with two atmospheric Victorian 500m long tunnels.  We love all well behaved dogs! We have a station set up for your furry friends including a water bowl, treats and dog bags. For the dog owners among you, there are also a number of road free dog walks starting from the camp we have provided a map on site with  showing some of our favourites! Please note:  On arrival, please park within the designated car park – we do not allow cars to drive to the pitches to help maintain our wild site and be truly family friendly. We have a number of off road trolleys and wheelbarrows available to use.

First wild camp
This was my boys first ever camping experience and they loved it. A true wild camping experience and I can not be more complimentary of Eva the host as well, she came round and checked on all pitches and kept a clean site. 100% recommend

Arthingworth Camping
the campsite was a lovely field with plenty of spaces between pitches. The site was clean - the toilets were portaloos. The owner was fairly strict about the 10pm quiet time rule, so something to be aware of if you want to stay up later talking.

Arthingworth Camping
A lovely destination, with pretty views. The pantry was cute and I like how it sells local honey and eggs. Eva came over and introduced herself she was really friendly and welcoming. It’s a shame you can’t park your car next to the pitch but it wasn’t the end of the world. The loos were unusable though, but that’s not down to eva I think that’s more whoever was using the toilets and couldn’t be bothered to flush so they got blocked and we were unable to use them in the morning. And with 4 little ones it was a bit of a nightmare! I think it was abit pricey for the facilities given but we did enjoy how the pitches were spread out so no bother from neighbouring tents.

Almost wild camping
The site was amazing, it was peaceful and beautiful, its basic but that's what we prefer. Eva was extremely helpful and friendly. Lots of awesome walks straight off the pitch and the local pub The Bulls Head was inviting and friendly only 5 mins away.

Surrounded by countryside walks and cycle paths down disused railway lines, you won’t be sitting around at Arthingworth Camping. Unless you want to, of course… after all, this small, tent only, family-run, family and dog friendly back to basics site with super scenery on the banks of a gentle stream. There’s over six acres of spacious pitches for you to lounge around on, as well as a large pitch-free area for family activities. If you’re after something a little stronger, there’s a pub two minutes’ walk from the site and two more pubs and the Warner's Distillery Ltd distillery five minutes’ drive away (the latter runs tours and tastings, if you fancy it). There are no hot water or shower facilities on site, however, there are toilet facilities and cold drinking water to ready you for the countryside walks that start directly from the site. Off-road cycling is also on the cards. It’s half an hour’s walk to the atmospheric Kelmarsh Tunnel. A five minute cycle will get you to the Brampton Valley Way, a 14-mile car free route down a disused railway. For the dog owners among you, there are also a number of dog walks starting from site - we have a map showing some of our favourite routes! Please note: On arrival, please park within the designated car park – we do not allow cars to drive to the pitches due to the very rough terrain. We have wheelbarrows available to use and I can come with our off road buggy to help move your equipment. We allow fires and BBQs raised from the ground and have dedicated paving slabs on each pitch. We have a limited number of fire bowls available for hire. Please let me know if you would like to hire one. We love all well behaved dogs! We have a station set up for your furry friends including a water bowl, treats and dog bags.

Market Harborough is a 10-minute drive from the site, boasting a popular indoor market that's open six days a week. Here you'll find a variety of traders selling their wares, from food to clothes to handmade gifts. The town square also hosts frequent events, including an Artisan Fair on the last Saturday of each month and a Farmers' Market on the first Thursday. Market Harborough is also where the Brampton Valley Way begins, a traffic-free cycling and walking path stretching to Northampton that follows one of the longest dismantled railway paths in the country. If you're in a particularly adventurous mood, pack your torches for a journey down the dimly-lit Oxenden Tunnel as part of this route. Lamport Hall is only a 10-minute drive away, set within 10 acres of beautiful gardens and with over 450 years of history to explore.

Food and drink

The Bulls Head is your lovely local, positioned just up the road in Arthingworth. A traditional inn, here you can enjoy a locally sourced seasonal menu complete with many vegetarian options, pub games such as darts and skittles, and friendly service. Alternatively, the Tollemache Arms is a five-minute drive away, a popular 17th-century country pub that hosts some unique events such as its annual TollyFest festival in July that boasts bands, beers, and more delicious local food.  If you're more into your gin than your ale, then Warner's Distillery is a five-minute drive away, providing immersive 90-minute tours complete with gin-tasting in the countryside.
