"Big Blue" sits atop a lawn covered hill on the shore of the Cobequid Bay. A grove of fir and pine trees offer a sense of woodland solitude and fairies. The energy is magical. You can enjoy a front row seat or amble down over the lawn to sit on the end of the public wharf to watch the tidal bore squeeze into the mouth of the Shubenacadie River. It won't be long and you can marvel at the force of the water as it turns and begins to pour back toward the Bay of Fundy. Walk across the dyke to reach the oldest continually operating general store in North America - Frieze and Roy. Beyond the Wharf, a locally stocked craft shop borders us on the easterly side of the lawn. Next to it you will find Dawson Dowel Picnic Park, a playground and basketball court. On the westerly side of the driveway you there is a marsh area. The remnants of the shipyard where the WD Lawrence was built in the 1800's can be seen poking through the sand on the beach directly in front of the marsh. At low tide you can walk for miles in a westerly direction. Always be Tide Aware! Across the road from the marsh is the residence of WD Lawrence himself. It is a provincial museum. Directly across from Big Blue is a Ducks Unlimited pond. The sound of the geese and ducks can be heard 24 hours a day! There is a path that circumvents most of the pond. Adjacent to the Lawrence House parking lot there is an observatory where you can linger and watch the shenanigans of the occasional muskrat or possibly a beaver. The washrooms are accessed through a side door on the verandah of the main house. There are three showers and three toilets. If happen to be missing your "workout" there is a treadmill and exercise bike available to use. Outdoor fire regulations are strictly adhered to. There is a BBQ available for a small fee. Welcome to The Three bees Tiny Farm in Gore. We are a small homestead located on 2.6 acres in the beautiful community of West Gore, Nova Scotia. The camping site is located a short walk through our blackberry patch back into the woods. From your campsite there is a small stream down the hill. We have chickens, turkeys, Guinea fowl, ducks, goats and pigs you’re more than welcome to come up and say hello to. The pigs are happy to greet anyone especially if you bring a snack. The goats are friendly and always happy to see people who will give them attention. It is a 10 minute drive to Kennetcook where you can get ice cream at Summertime Treats. They also have all the basics including a pharmacy, gas station, hardware store, grocery store, Robins Donuts and Snappers pub and grill. The Kennetcook River is also a great place to fish. Our area boasts many atv trails as well as a mountain biking park just up the road in Gore. There is also a gas station/convenience store/nslc a 4 minute drive the other direction in Rawdon Gold Mines. 30 minute drive to Windsor and about 25 minutes to Elmsdale.

Animals on the Homestead: Chickens, Goats, Rabbits, Potbelly pigs, dogs, and cats. From roosters crowing, goats bleating, to piglets squealing, there are many farm animals to visit and give pets! Relax and enjoy the slow pace of life here. It’s a peaceful off-grid space with a touch of comfort and a whole lot of character. We are happy to share the space, answer questions, or just let you enjoy the quiet.

We had a great two night stay at the Owl's Nest cabin. Helmut answered all of our questions before we left and transported us to the cabin to show us around the cabin and property. Cabin is secluded and off-grid. Our dog was not a fan of the steep stairs to the loft. Don't forget to bring your orange vest and remember to check for ticks. Highly recommend for those looking for a quiet getaway.

We absolutely loved our stay at Owl’s Nest! Helmut treated you like family, sharing his experiences tending the forest and the cabin that he built. If you’re looking for a place to get off-grid, connect with nature, and be able to explore the many trails just outside your door, this is the place! We especially appreciated how the land was private, so that we could let our pup explore without worrying about running into any other dog owners. It was a great to share this cabin and we will certainly be coming back!

Gloria was a friendly host and the big grassy yard that she offered was a good place to camp near the Bay of Fundy where you could watch the tides come and go.. There’s a nice walking trail from her place to the village of Maitland where we got a very decent dinner at a good price. The bathroom facilities were substandard, not clean, but made available whenever we needed it. Overall, it was a decent experience, although perhaps a bit overpriced.

We surprised my parents with a stay at Bootsie Back 40 Cabin for their 40th anniversary, and it was absolutely perfect! The hosts went above and beyond with every detail. The cabin itself is so cozy and welcoming, surrounded by stunning fall colors that made the whole experience magical. My parents loved the peace and quiet — they spent their mornings sipping tea while listening to the birds sing. The hosts were wonderfully friendly and even took photos of my parents for me, which was such a thoughtful touch. They also got to visit the farm animals (including two emus!), which they absolutely adored. Thank you for helping me give my parents such a memorable and heartfelt experience. This will be a trip they’ll cherish forever!

We called ahead and Quinton met us as we drove in and showed us to the site. We had our choice of spots because we were the only ones there. We watched the tidal bore come up the river and a mild sunset in the orchard. Early in the morning, we heard some ruffled grouse calling. A very peaceful stay.

Great little spot. The wood stove made it very cozy and we had enough power for the water, lights and coffee in the morning. It was great having a camping experience while not having to take down tents in the morning. Recommend it if you're in the area.

We would have preferred a spot that was easier to maneuver BUT it was exactly as the pictures showed. We have 2 beagles and we worried that other campers might not be as fond of their songs as we are. But by quiet time (11pm) they were settled in. The ONLY unfortunate part of our stay was the large group of young people who didn't start drinking until after 11. At 230, my wife screamed, "Go to bed!" One of them yelled, "Sorry." But it still went on until after 3. They got our dogs and at least one other barking. Except for that one group, the campground was quiet after 11, and earlier, i dont think we hear a single loud voice. If there were dogs besides ours and the one we were travelling with, we never heard them. Better control of the 11pm quiet time is the only suggestion I have. Paula was a wonderful host and the campground is beautiful. Coyotes were in full song just as we were going to bed. The bathroom facilities were probably the nicest and cleanest that we've ever seen at a campground.

Helmut was so nice, and his cabin was exceptional. We were nested into the forrest, cut from the rest of the world. The cabin has everything you need, including a pump and head shower, perfect for a quick wash. I would definitely recommend!

2 nights at Breezy Petals Camping Resort

This was my first attempt at camping out with my own tent while roadtripping to Nova Scotia. It was a good experience! Shower and toilet was available, and it was a regular flush, surprisingly. Unfortunetaly for my 3-person tent, the nails cannot go through the wooden platform, so I installed it on the side. If you're Glamping or using the already available tents on-site, it might be a better experience due to bugs, since this has 2 ponds around. Overall, for a first time, I was satisfied! I just hope that the "Bois Road" that takes you to there ends up soon being paved, because that is one dusty unpaved road. At least the site is distant from it, so it's no problem!

Besides being the cabin weve ever been to, this cabin is perfect to get away from it all. We really felt recharged and rested and able to reconnect with nature. We saw plenty of different birds, including a flock of Cedar Waxwings and Woodpeckers. The wild blackberries also make for a delicious treat while exploring the surroundings. The atmosphere inside the cabin, during day or night, compares to no other. It is a pleasure for the senses and its solid wood structure has hints Alpine Forest wilderness. You can not go wrong booking the owl's nest.
