Beaver’s Pond is situated in the sweetest town of Texas Honey Grove.There is a picnic table a fire pit and a bbq grill in front of the cabin & there is a gas stove, mini fridge and a water heater. There is not city water or electricity, but If you bring a power station or generator, you will have electricity. There is a water well in the cabin with a water pump. There is a wood burning stove inside. The bathroom is outside on the left side of the cabin with toilet sink and shower. There are two kayaks and a paddle board for you to use. Beware of beaver holes when walking outside of the cabin and please don’t cross the pond, it’s my neighbors property.

We loved our stay, it was so fun! Well stocked cabin, we loved staying warm with the wood stove. We’re so glad there was plenty of fire wood ready for us to use. Our dogs loved running around the cabin. We caught bass and blue gill in the pond. I think as long as you’re prepared for an off grid stay, you’ll have a great time!

This spot is such a gem. We loved meeting the goats and chickens and seeing how lovingly curated they have made this space. Jeffrey was so kind and a wealth of knowledge about farming and gardening. It’s our first time to go camping w my son and discovered this serene and lovely cabin. Just fire up the generator and everything will light up for you and water overflows! I love the bed and the blankets, the books (esp ‘The Living on the Rugged edge’ by Charles Swindoll); small items like the mobile phone reset pin is there! Twas a really good rest w nature plus fishing time too. This is my dream cabin in the future. Well, overall we would like to recommend this for a good bonding time w your son. In fact, we are extending our stay for few more days. Thanks Sir Serapio, our host, for the kind help and excellent communication skills. He is always available everytime I have a question. Thanks again!

My family and I had a great time! Rick was a perfect host. We mentioned wanting to do some fishing, so he put us near the pond. We were able to catch some decent-sized largemouth bass and bluegill. At our camp, we were visited by many of the animals roaming around. Willie and Doc really enjoyed hanging around our camp.

Ladera RV Resort was a great place to stay. It's just far enough off the interstate to not be loud. The sites are large concrete pull thrus with full hookups. Each site has a large, level turf sitting area. Because we arrived late, we called the info number at the office and we're told what site we had. As soon as we pulled into the site, we were greeted by the on-site manager who gave us a list of all the local activities, restaurants, and laundry sites. There are several long term guests, but their area is along the outside perimeter and the Resort apparently requires they keep their sites spotless because the entire resort is extremely clean. We couldn't be more pleased with our stay and will certainly return.

Great place to camp with Lynda and Reston being great hosts! We got in very late due to an unseen emergency and Reston still escorted us to our camp site. The grounds were great with so much room to explore. The Haunt was awesome and being able to order breakfast the last day was so much easier for pack up.

About
Split into two “units”—Doctors Creek on the north shore of Jim Chapman Lake and South Sulphur on the south side—Cooper Lake has everything you need for an outdoor adventure, just 90 minutes from Dallas. Miles of hiking, biking, geocaching, and horseback riding trails lead through oak forests and marshy grasslands, where you can spot birds and wild deer. Along the waterfront, cool off with a dip in the dedicated swimming area, rent a kayak, or fish for bass, catfish, and crappie. There’s camping on both sides of the lake with a choice of RV, tent, and equestrian sites.
Notable campgrounds
- Best for family adventurers: Liberty Grove Campground on the north shore has easy access to the lake and inland hiking trails, plus a kid’s playground.
- Best for tent campers: Oak Grove Camping Area has 15 tranquil pitches with a lakeside setting and minimal facilities.
- Best for equestrian campers: Buggy Whip Equestrian Campground has 15 sites with electric hookups, horse tethers, and direct access to the trails.
Tips for snagging a campsite
- You can reserve spots at any of the park’s seven campsites, as well as screened shelters and cabins, in advance via the Texas State Parks website.
- Campsite reservations open five months in advance for all sites.
- Campsites can book up fast for summer and holiday weekends—book as soon as possible, especially if you have a particular site in mind.
When to go
Cooper Lake State Park is open year-round and can get crowded on weekends and holidays from spring through fall. Summertime temperatures can reach more than 90°F, so you’ll probably want to stay lakeside—spring and fall offer more comfortable temperatures for hiking. Horse riding trails are often closed if it gets too wet.
Know before you go
- Cooper Lake State Park is located 90 miles northeast of Dallas or about a 1.5-hour drive away.
- Park entrance fees are required in addition to camping fees, and general entrance reservations can be made up to one month in advance.
- Facilities include restrooms, picnic benches, and souvenir stores. The South Sulphur store also sells ice and drinks. You can purchase groceries and firewood in Commerce or Sulphur Springs, both about a 20-minute drive away.
- You can bring your own boat or kayak or rent kayaks within the park. There are also boat docks, fishing piers, and fish cleaning stations at both units. Fishing licenses are only required if fishing from a boat.
