Ayrshire Downs Caravan & Camping is a property steeped in Australian history; with the Cobb & Co coach pub ruins, original shearing shed ruins from the famous shearing strikes, the location for where Banjo Patterson first penned Waltzing Matilda to music, and more.  We offer sites next to one of Australia’s iconic shearing shed ruins. Located along the beautiful Wokingham Creek, you’ll get a taste of the outback with stock and other native animals surrounding your stay.  Winton is the nearest town, 58 km away, and has so much to see and do. It's the Dinosaur Capital of Australia, home of Waltzing Matilda and Queensland's Boulder Opal; abundant in nature, culture and heritage. It's also the best place to stock up on supplies. We have a dedicated, fenced off area for campers with trees growing. We have water available, cold showers and flushing toilets, picnic shed with seats but  otherwise campers must be self-contained. The nearest dump point is in Winton. We have a communal fire pit where you can gather and meet other travellers, or you're welcome to light your own firepit (BYO) at your campsite. We were the only campers there so the quiet was amazing. We could barely hear the highway when there was traffic on it, which was not often. The flies were a little aggravating but not too bad. The bathroom and shower was rustic but clean with lots of water.

Great flat camp ground, with very tidy toilet/shower and table area. Suggestion is to cook a meal once the sun has just gone down as the flys ease up.

Could not recommend this place more!!! The stars were the most gorgeous I’ve ever seen! Saw a shooting star! Sunsets and sunrises were incredible. Toilets and showers were great! The water was warm bc it had been heating in the sun all day. Would definitely stay again!!!

We stayed here due to a lack of free camps with facilities in the area. Overall the stay was good - easy enough to find, far enough from the main road, flat site. However due to the location there were lots of flys, minimal shade and no Internet connection on Telstra or Optus. A few improvements could be made to the bathrooms as there were no locks on the bathroom doors, only toilet paper in one bathroom, no soap at the sink, no lights inside the bathroom.

Great spot. Toilets and showers are very tidy; they have lovely flat camping spaces.; there is enough room for campsites not to be too close and the sunsets/sunrises are amazing.

We enjoyed staying in our van along the back fence. We had shade for our recliners, and it will be lovely when the trees grow taller. There were 2 others camping but plenty of space. Beautiful sunset and sunrise. We would be happy to stay again.

This is a clean site that offers off the highway pull up for the night. Great sunrise and sunset. Flushing toilet, cold shower and communal fire pit. For me I wanted a quiet space to look at some scenery, walk my dog and maybe paint a picture or 2. This is not that space. It's an enclosure that is not far from the highway with no trespassing signs towards the trees or creek. Not for much more than the evening stay.

We truly enjoyed our stay at Ayrshire Downs. Easy access from the road. Even though it was off the main road the road noise did not carry to the site we stayed on. The sunsets were incredible. If we are passing we will certainly stay again.

This was such a lucky find - last minute trying to avoid the overcrowded caravan parks - and we and our swag had this glorious spot to ourselves! Bring firewood and brace yourselves for the showers but the stars were incredible!! Shelter with table and benches, flush loos, what more could you want?

Thank you to the owners for providing travellers with such a picturesque and peaceful spot to camp. Booked through Hipcamp. Reasonably priced. Enjoyed the communal campfire, amenities and information on the farms history. BYO wood. Definitely will return when travelling through the region again.

Nice and quiet and off the main road. The rustic toilet block was a bonus. Felt very welcome and loved being invited into the shearing shed to watch all the action.

Beautiful sunsets, (cold) showers and toilets well maintained. Easy to find. Make sure you give yourself enough time to drive to any of the Winton attractions if you have bookings.

The grounds were clean and spacious. Unfortunately we didn't find out about the communal fire pit until our 2nd night. Incredible sunrises and sunsets and such a wonderful property history. Showers were warm enough even though it was winter. Clean facilities.

The advertising was a little miss leading in regards to the river views. However we may have missed signage as to getting there. Overall it was flat & quiet with basic facilities that made a pleasant overnight stop.

Overview we had a good night sleep However, we found advertising a bit misleading. We weren't sure if we could drive down to the water as per the advertised photo. No clear instructions, and hipcamps made it difficult to book.

Absolutely happy campers at Ayershire. We had the place to ourselves and it was perfect. Such an interesting place. Love to read the history. Basic toilet and showers, plenty of room to park and enjoy the countryside.clean and well looked after. The stars were unbelievable and breakfast at sunrise was beautiful. Would definitely be back next time we are through this part of Queensland.

Instructions were clear for access. Nicely positioned just far enough from hwy. Flushing toilets were a bonus but could have done with some maintenance/cleaning. Primitive camp but suited us nicely for an overnight stay.
