Giinagay. Welcome to Nymboida, Gumbaynggirr Country. Wirrgilga means “Silky Oak,” and around November each year, this section of the Nymboida River is lined with a stunning display of golden-orange flowers from the majestic silky oak trees. Wirrgilga River Bend is a place where you can see platypus swimming in the pristine waters of the Nymboida River, along with a myriad of avian and terrestrial wildlife. We are your first overnight stop on the Clarence River Canoe and Kayak Trail — the longest mapped whitewater trail in Australia. More information: https://www.myclarencevalley.com/clarence-canoe-and-kayak-trail/ Your hosts, Deb and Danny, are slowly converting the property to regenerative farming by improving soil health, and Wirrgilga River Bend has Land for Wildlife status to protect native flora and fauna. A riverbank revegetation project has been in place for the past 15 years, during which a large amount of the noxious weed privet has been removed and replaced with native trees and shrubs. All camping proceeds are reinvested into improving the ecology of the property. Note: This property is a working farm with horses and cattle. Fencing excludes stock from the campsite. Two dogs also live on the property, and while every effort will be made to prevent them from visiting you at the campsite, they are social canines and may occasionally sneak away to “check out” the visitors! Apologies in advance. If you don’t like dogs, this may not be the campsite for you.Pitch your tent, set up your camper trailer or roll out your swag and chillax with nature. Mulun Riverside Campsite is a flat grassy space on the banks of the Nymboida River. Guests will enjoy this campsite to themselves. At night, lounge around the firepit, relaxing as you unwind in the ambient crackles and glow while listening to the boobook owls double noted 'boo-book' call and the tawny frogmouths 'ooom-ooom' in the distance. In Summer, maybe watch the fireflies flash in the darkness. An uneven bush path will allow you to traverse the river bank and then descend down to the Nymboida River at a location known as 'M's Rock' - named after the hosts children whose names both start with the letter 'm'. Here you can enjoy a refreshing dip in the waters of the Nymboida River or sit quietly and be rewarding with a sighting of the allusive mulun (platypus). You will have access to a compositing toilet, a shelter shed with a picnic table and bench seats, as well as a gas BBQ. There is no power. Water is provided in plastic jerry cans with top ups available just a two minute walk away near the house shed (available water is either rain water, river water, or a mixture of both - you may like to consider treatment options, but your hosts drink it untreated). A fire pit is provided and a small amount of firewood is provided. Please keep fires small and contained within the pit. Check-in and check-out times are negotable depending upon other bookings and host availability.
