Set in the quiet village of Rydal, just beyond the Blue Mountains, Chapel House is a historic country estate with beautiful gardens, open countryside and a fascinating past. The property's oldest stone buildings date to around 1832, when an inn welcomed travellers along the old Bathurst Road. Chapel House was also once home to celebrated Australian artist John Olsen. Today, the estate is known for its nine acres of beautifully maintained cool-climate gardens. Wander among mature trees and seasonal plantings, discover two ornamental lakes, and watch the resident ducks and geese. Beyond the gardens, the property opens into paddocks, bushland and countryside, with a creek and dams. There are different ways to stay: settle into the cosy, historic Owl Pen Cottage, or bring your self-contained caravan or campervan to one of the property's simple camping spots when available. The cottage and camping areas are separate, with different facilities and access arrangements, so please check the details of your chosen stay before booking. Chapel House is a lovely base for exploring Rydal, Lithgow and the wider Blue Mountains region, or simply slowing down and enjoying the country air.Set among nine acres of beautiful gardens, Owl Pen Cottage is a cosy, character-filled retreat for up to four guests, perfect for a peaceful country escape. Inside, you'll find two comfortable bedrooms with electric blankets, a welcoming lounge with a wood-burning fireplace and gas heating, a fully equipped kitchen, and a bathroom with a relaxing spa bath. The sunny garden-facing sunroom is a lovely spot for your morning coffee or settling in with a good book. Step outside to wander the manicured gardens, discover two ornamental lakes home to resident ducks and geese, or relax on the pontoon overlooking Goose Lake. There's also an outdoor swimming pool to enjoy during the warmer months. The gardens and swimming pool are shared with the owners and other guests who may be staying on the estate. Laundry facilities are shared with the caretaker, who may occasionally require access during your stay.
