Sandy Point Farm Camp

2. Sandy Point Farm Camp

(29)
30km from Wilsons Promontory National Park · 3 sites · Tents, RVs · Sandy Point, VIC
Camp in a semi-sheltered paddock on our 25 acre family farm "Ennisvale", on the outskirts of Sandy Point. You'll be on the doorstep of the most beautiful beaches, fishing, vibrant local towns and Wilson’s Prom. Wake up to birdsong, go to sleep to the sound of the waves, and spot a koala if you’re lucky. With a flush toilet, a cold bore water shower, an outdoor fridge (old but works fine!), power for charging devices, and a drinking water tank, you’ll be very comfortable as you explore the local area. We love it here and we know you will too. You'll have the paddock to yourself (unless you book end Dec-mid Jan, when it's a shared site - see listing) but you'll be close enough to the action to see the comings and goings of our multigenerational family as we potter around the farm, veggie garden and orchard. Say hi! Say g'day to the curious chooks and friendly dogs and enjoy the top-notch "equine views" from your site with three lovely horses in the next paddock. Sandy Point beaches and store 2 mins drive Shallow Inlet Marine and Coastal Park 5 mins drive Fish Creek 15 mins (cafes, galleries, pharmacy, general store, pub) Foster 20 mins (local IGA, Aherns grocer, butchers/fish shop, pub and take-away) Walkerville North beach 20 mins Wilsons Prom 25 mins to gate and 50 mins to Tidal River It's now the declared Fire Danger Period - fires only allowed in our fire pit when wind is less than 10 kmh (very still) and mild temperatures. Check with hosts if unsure and byo firewood. We only allow one group to book at once so the site’s all yours - site is suitable for anything from one or two travellers or a larger group. The camp site has a large flat area and can accommodate most vehicles. The ground surface is level, but grass is a bit rough and expect some sticks and twigs and holes around. Horses sometimes graze the paddock and poo is picked up but if you're lucky you might find some remnants! No wild party groups, please! We want you to have a fantastic time but please respect the peaceful surrounds, our family & neighbours, so please keep the noise down after 10pm. Sorry, but dogs are generally not allowed as we have dogs, free-ranging chickens, horses and cattle, and they may not mix well! We also have an airbnb on site: search Shallow Inlet Loft.

(16)
43km from Wilsons Promontory National Park · 1 site · Tent, RV · Fish Creek, VIC
Our 60+ acre property is located 4 minutes from Fish Creek in the picturesque South Gippsland region, characterised by green rolling hills. Our property is a small working farm in dairy country. The centrepiece is a small private lake. The property forms a natural bowl, so we don't have runoff from other farms entering the lake and the water is very clean. We welcome campers to pitch a tent on the shore of the lake. The best spot is a small promontory with water on three sides and shade from the blackwood trees. Enjoy swimming, paddling, birdwatching or just hanging out soaking up the surrounds. You'll have the whole spot to yourselves. If you're exploring the area, we're just five minutes to the cafes, galleries and pub at Fish Creek; 15 minutes to the glorious beaches at Sandy Point, Waratah Bay and Walkerville; and 25 mins to Wilson’s Prom gate. There’s no toilet at the campsite, so you will need to be self-contained, and take all waste with you. We don't allow dogs because if there are livestock in nearby paddocks, dogs can freak them out. If fire danger level is not High or above, you're welcome to have a campfire in the firepit provided, but please BYO firewood. Note: This is a scenic spot but the access and camping are a bit rough. To drive in you'll need a SUV or bigger (a Nissan XTrail gets in, with a bit of care). Not suitable for caravans, RVs or long-wheelbase vans, though you'd probably be OK with a small camping trailer towed behind a good 4WD. (The trickiest part of accessing the site is getting from the road onto the track leading up to our gate. There is a roadside ditch, and long or low vehicles can bottom out when trying to cross it.) For necessities, Fish Creek has a general store and pharmacy, a post office, a hardware store, a famous pub - and good coffee at a few different venues!

Heaven on Earth. We must be the luckiest people alive to have somehow become the owners of this property which is only a short drive from the breathtaking Wilsons Promontory, and according to Lonely Planet, the second best beach in the WORLD. The property has an abundance of temperate rainforest including massive gum trees, 6m tall tree ferns, permanent spring fed creeks, our own lake and more Australian wildlife than most zoos*. Living here, we feel like we're on holiday every day of the year. Camping sites are situated at the back of the property just a quick 5-minute walk from the car park. We'll transport your gear to your campsite so you can get set up quickly and start exploring the property or just kick back and relax. The three campsites are positioned so that you won't hear a sound from any other campers on the property. You will feel like you've got the whole place to yourself. And even though the campsites are isolated you'll still enjoy the convenience of clean regular flushing toilet facilities. But unlike any toilet you'll have used before, you'll get to enjoy a our unique loo with a view which is situated right amongst the rainforest looking out over the magestic tree ferns! Whether you intend to simply relax and listen to all the birdlife, grab a few drinks and head up to the viewing deck to watch the sunset, or put on your hiking boots and explore the rainforest, whatever you do, you will truly get back to nature. As one guest said, "I literally wanted to hug a tree". So what are you waiting for, come and hug one of our trees**. * comparison made with zoos that don't have many Australian animals ** please ensure you have the tree's consent first ;)

17 acres, with 2 cleared, only 3 kms as the crow flies, from the coast. You can hear the surf in the evening. The property is the bush refuge corner of a larger grazing property. Whilst sheep and cattle graze on one side of the fence, the wildlife grazing on "our" side includes echidnas, wombats, wallabies, possums, koalas, and is home to more than 30 species of birds identified so far. Tarwin Lower EcoStudio is not far out of town and the Tarwin River (4 kms), for boating, paddling and fishing. Slightly further afield is Andersen Inlet (great fishing, paddling, paddle boarding, boating, and shallow waters for very young children), Venus Bay Surf beaches, and Walkerville South bay beach (with boat ramp). Waratah Bay and Wilsons Promontory less than an hour's drive away. And that's just the water sports. The Great Southern Rail Trail is just up the road, at Koonwarra or Leongatha, and has a range of rides with varying degrees of challenge. The Eco Studio itself is completely off grid, built from reclaimed and recycled materials, as part of our commitment to living lightly. There is an outdoor kitchen, and composting toilet, and our home garden (we live on the property too) is often abundant and the fresh organic produce is for sale for our visitors. The best camping in Wilsons Promontory National Park, VIC guide

Overview

About

This wild, windswept peninsula about three hours south of Melbourne is one of Victoria’s top camping getaways. Spot wildlife on coastal walks, or hike up the granite cliffs of Mount Oberon and Mount Bishop, where sweeping views of Bass Strait are the reward. Swim at protected bays like Norman Beach, Sealers Cove, and Squeaky Beach—named for its melodious grains of quartz sand—or leave footprints across the otherworldly Big Drift sand dunes. “The Prom,” as it’s known to locals, has a handful of camping areas scattered on diverse terrain. From trekking to the continent’s edge on an overnight hike to glamping at the well-appointed hub of Tidal River, there’s a place for everyone under the southern stars.

Notable campgrounds

  • Best for families: The Prom’s most popular base camp, Tidal River Campground features hot showers, powered sites, and cabins.
  • Best for wildlife watchers: Wallabies, wombats, and kangaroos are frequent visitors at the quieter Stockyard Campground.
  • Best for hikers: Accessible via a two-hour walk, Sealers Cove Campground offers seclusion by the beach.

Tips for snagging a campsite

  1. Book campsites, cabins, and overnight permits online at the Parks Victoria website.
  2. Reservations at Tidal River over the Australian summer holidays in late December and January are awarded by ballot. Be sure to submit your ballot by the mid-July deadline.
  3. Most other dates are open up to 18 months in advance, so book early to avoid getting shut out.

When to go

Summer is the best time to swim at the Prom’s beaches, while the bush blooms with wildflowers in the spring. Peak seasons include Easter, Labour Day, Melbourne Cup weekend (the last weekend in October), and Christmas, so be prepared for holiday crowds. Visit during autumn for crisp weather and fewer crowds, and look out for migrating whales offshore during winter.

Know before you go

  • Forget something? The general store at Tidal River Campground carries grocery items and a selection of gear.
  • Pack plenty of water or be prepared to treat water, as drinkable water is in short supply at campsites other than Tidal River.
  • Due to bushfire risk, camp fires and barbecues are not allowed anywhere in Wilsons Promontory National Park. Bring a gas or liquid stove for cooking.
  • For campers with limited mobility, the Wirilda and She-oak Cabins at Tidal River are fully accessible.
