Our place is a private location on the busy SH 29. It's a spot for a few guests that are preferably self-contained (we are living off grid). We do have water on the land and you'll have cell coverage almost everywhere on the property. You'll love staying here because it has amazing views and scenery as it is close to native forests, rivers, streams and waterfalls. We have several spots on the property available, so you'll have privacy if you want.
As it is located directly at the busy State Highway 29, it's easily accessible, and we have gravel and dirt roads through the property.
Please note that road sounds are unavoidable.
The property is next to a rain forest and nature, yet close to major towns such as Tauranga (20 min), Cambridge (45 min), Hamilton (1 hour). We are also only about 30 min away from Hobbiton (Matamata).
You're welcome to stay here if you're travelling in a self-contained or non-self-contained vehicle. We are also happy to host you in a tent.
You're welcome to use a composting toilet and warm shower.
The price is for 1 vehicle/ tent and 2 people.
We also offer Stand-up Paddles to hire and you can book walking tours on the property as well.

We have the front of our section in Okato, Taranaki available for off grid camping. Okato is 17 mins drive from New Plymouth and the land is flat, with beautiful views of Mt Taranaki, Kaitake ranges and distant sea views. We are less than 2 minutes drive to centre of Okato village, Surf Highway and Stony River walkways. 7 minutes drive to Pitone or Okato beaches.
In terms of eating out, coffee and shops - there is The Okato Bar and Restaurant Silver Snapper fish & chips, Lahar coffee & food, Downtown coffee, En Route Coffee van. Four Square/post office, barbers, kids playground and skate park.
Okato is 10 mins drive from Oakura with a stunning beach and many eateries.

When we first turned up to Sommerfeldt Farm, the view took our breath away. It was simply beautiful. It was the calm we needed. We really enjoyed our over night stay and am excited to return.

The site perfectly located close to Hobbiton, Rotorua and Tauranga. We were tent camping. The host is great and trails provided to explore nature. We found that site may be more suitable for trailers and caravans because of proximity of the road.

Our second visit here and we love it - Tim has only improved the offering since last time. Now, there is a pair of amazing shiny toilets in the upper camp and through a gate, bridge & steps down to the river gorge, where you can see glowworms at night, or take a swim/dip in the day. Such an amazing camp, probably the best one ever for us. Thanks Tim!

I love that it was in a very secluded area with limestone Bluffs and a river flow through property. It was very tranquil. There was no one else around. I had very nice restroom facilities and also had freshwater on the property . If you want to relax, this is a place to go, plus it was absolutely beautiful.
