Surrounded by lush native bush and towering tree ferns, this picturesque town on the Latrobe River sits on the main access route to the ski fields of Mt Baw Baw and is home to a wide range of heritage and natural attractions.
The property consists of 5 acres with a river, so you can set up a tent right next to the river and fish for dinner. The house is about 100 meters away from the camping area, but there are about 1000 Oregon trees that are 50 years old, so you can't see each other well, so you can enjoy nature freely.
4WD is recommended for easy access. We recommend tents/swags.
4WD with Heavy trailer is still very hard to enter when it is wet.
Guests will have access to a toilet throughout their stay. There is a communal fire pit available, so guests can enjoy a campfire on the cool evenings. Please abide by any local fire restrictions during your stay.
You can walk from my house to Noojee Heritage Centre, Trestle Bridge, Alpine Trout Farm, and Noojee Hotel for a delicious pizza, Cool beer from tool sheed and coffee from red duck cafe. You can drive to Toorongo Falls, Ada Tree in 10 minutes and Baw Baw Ski Resort in 40 minutes.

Here, you have several fantastic camp areas to choose from, some with access to amenities, some for self-contained campers. We've also recently started offering the mudbrick house for rent! We are 1 hour East of Melbourne along the M1, (and a couple of kms off the M1). Situated in West Gippsland. Casa Cucina is a feast for the senses and very close by you can enjoy the alpine majesty of the Baw Baw Plateau, the Bunyip State Forest, the (mostly) lush green valleys, to the rivers and streams… there is always something to do in West Gippsland for the curious. Other attractions in the area are Gumbuya World, Nangara Reserve, Noojee and Neerim South, PLUS of course the wineries.
The Tarago River backs onto our small yet spacious, open yet shaded space. The river is shallow for paddling, not really ‘swimmable’, a lovely spot to cool off on our warm summer days, or a mesmerising place to sit, watch, read, contemplate, draw or write. Some large old Mountain Ash remain along the river bank, with lots of new plantings. It is not uncommon to see an echidna, a variety of stunning birdlife, and on dusk, maybe a wombat family and folks, we also host a family of platypus if you are very quiet - mainly seen at dawn or dusk.
Our river block can hold up to 4 caravans, tents or trailers (under 10 metres) in one group (one booking). In addition, the upper adjoining block can accommodate 2 caravans (enquire for this option). This is a single group occupancy site so you can enjoy the privacy of your own group.
If you wish to hook into our powered site, please add $10 per night, per van. All campers will also have access to our Casa Cucina gorgeous eclectic, quirky community space to sit in out of the weather. Please note: This is not an accommodation space.
As a reminder, all campers will need to be Self Contained as we have no toilet facilities, no access to fresh water, cold showers only and no cooking facilities.
Also remember if you wish to have a fire (not during fire season however) in our fire pit, you MUST bring your own wood.

It’s a privilege to stay at Casa Cucina! A beautiful space, which is easily accessible and flat to suit all types of camping. Chris is the perfect host, getting in touch ahead of check-in and giving us a warm welcome. Super easy to find and access.
The nearby Robin Hood Inn has a courtesy bus, which can come pick you up and drop you back again. Highly recommend a stay here.

We had a beautiful, quiet stay at this riverside Hipcamp with our caravan. The site was peaceful and perfectly positioned beside the river, with the gentle sound of flowing water making it incredibly relaxing. It was easy to access, spacious and private, giving us plenty of room to set up and unwind. If you’re chasing a simple, serene escape, this spot is a gem.

We loved this spot! Camping right next to the river, surrounded by beautiful forest and birds was so peaceful. The toilet is a walk or drive uphill and easy to access. The host was lovely and has a few dogs who were very friendly. Be aware on hot days- we spotted a snake having a swim in the river.

We had a really lovely and relaxing stay on Chris’s beautiful block.
Arrival instructions were excellent and very easy to follow. The first thing we noticed was the freshly cut grass… it was lovely and short and made setting up camp really easy and comfortable.
The river hut was quirky and cute, with lots of charming little knickknacks inside. The alpacas and surrounding nature were a real highlight. We were lucky enough to spot a wombat, lots of birds, and even eels in the river during our stay.
At night you can hear some cars and horns from the freeway, so just something for future visitors to be aware of. The block also has large gum trees and a branch did come down during our stay on the last windy night (luckily causing no damage or injury to us). That’s just part of being out in nature and didn’t take away from our experience!
The block was immaculate, the only piece of rubbish was a HJ’s bag in the fire pit (which we assumed might have been for kindling) and wasn’t used during our total fire ban stay - but the fire pit would be a lovely addition if we could have used it!
Overall, we all had a wonderful stay. It was peaceful, relaxing and a great way to unwind in nature on Chris’s beautiful property. The kids had an absolute ball! Thank you for having us!

This was our second time to this spot and it did not disappoint. Absolute privacy and tranquility. It’s the perfect t location and the sites are flat and comfortable. Our dogs had an absolute ball, as did the kids. We also got the most delicious veg box on our way out. Thanks for having us again, Keren! We’ll be back again soon :)

We stayed at the Down by the Dam site and absolutely loved it. The site itself is a big, open and flat space, so plenty of room to spread out and really relax. It was so peaceful and quiet, exactly what we were hoping for.
But the real highlight of our stay was the hosts, Bel and Sean. They are genuinely two of the nicest people we have ever met. So welcoming, friendly and helpful from the moment we arrived, and they truly went above and beyond to make sure our stay with our 4-year-old was perfect. Nothing was too much trouble and they made us feel so at home.
There are some beautiful swimming spots near the camp, which were perfect on a warm day, and we also headed into the Briag Pub for dinner which was great. We loved seeing the kangaroos around the property and getting to say hello to their chickens, which our daughter thought was the best thing ever.
The amenities were lovely too, very clean and well maintained.
Thank you so much Bel and Sean for your incredible hospitality. We had such a special stay and can’t wait to come back again.

A little patch of paradise! It was so peaceful by the river, and Kim was a really lovely host. The food she shared with us was delicious too! The kids had fun trying to catch the river crayfish and Kim’s dogs, goat and even the cat made us all smile. As it was hot we drove to nearby Tooronga Falls and swam in the water - that was a highlight!
Will definitely be going back again!

We absolutely loved our stay here. It felt super private and tranquil, like we had our own little pocket of nature. There are only four sites and they’re really spaced out, so everyone gets their own space. I’m such a sucker for tall trees and being near a body of water, and this place honestly felt like being hugged by the trees — very calm and grounding.
We loved it so much that even my companion said we’d definitely come back, and I feel the same.
The only downside for me was that the toilets were quite far from the campsites, which made them hard to use, and I think having one closer would really help. A simple shower and sink would also be amazing, especially for the price point.
That said, we’d 100% return. Such a beautiful spot. 5/5 despite the small things.

Beautiful property in a perfect location. Great communication and always quick to reply, we appreciated the heads up about the weather for the weekend. Meg hooked us up with a cozy spot in the hillside, well protected from the wind, which was greatly appreciated also. Communal kitchen was well stocked and drop dunny clean and odour free.
