Nestled amongst the mountains just outside of the township of Whittlesea our 40-acre property sits above the clouds. This experience comes with sweeping views, a hidden waterfall, a clear campground, and plenty of wildlife.
The camping area is accessible by 4WD only, otherwise, strap on a backpack and earn it! (800m walk/hike from where a non-4WD can park). The waterfall is reached by a single trail track from the campsite, and you do need to be an experienced hiker to get to the waterfall. Which is part of the appeal!
We welcome self-contained campers, who bring their own toilet and take all waste with them. We have a strict Leave No Trace policy.
Or choose to stay in our beautiful A-frame cabin, with plush bedding, cozy fire, and outdoor lounge. More than anything else this is a place to relax and be away from normal, live outside yourself, and rediscover what weekends are for.
Dogs are welcome, so long as they don't bother the wildlife.
Campfires are allowed, BYO firewood or campers can collect fallen timber from the property.

The Whip Stick Forest campsite is located on the outskirts of Bendigo. This is an ideal place to take a break away from it all. Peace and tranquility surrounded by nature. We are just far enough away from the town to offer the outdoors feel and close enough to town to enjoy sightseeing, and many outdoor activities and access to shops, fuel and most of the usual shopping needs.
Here you will find a nice open space amongst the gum trees with drinking water, toilet, and outdoor shower.

If you don't like dogs you probably shouldn't stay here as Daz loves people.
Only minutes from town where you will find supplies, close to the local swimming pool and 10 minutes from a popular watering hole.

Merriwoola (Merri Wominjeka : Stones Welcome) is a property of outstanding natural beauty and offers guests a sanctuary from the world surrounded by parkland bush, mysterious boulders resting amongst the trees and numerous native animals including wombats, echidnas, kanagroos, wallabies, possums, koala and the most extraordinary birdlife.
The property is defined by an ancient water course that cuts a 1km ravine through the property. During the winter the dry boulder-strewn gorge is transformed with waterfalls and cascades along its length and regardless of the season transports you to another time and place.
There is limited solar power (enough for phones and laptops) and low flow water (enough to brush your teeth). Neither is guaranteed to be available. A wood stove heats the hut, boils the kettle and cooks your dinner; firewood is included. An open outdoor bathroom includes a sink, bath and drop toilet. Hot water is available but not promised. The hut is fenced and well-behaved dogs are welcome.
This property is suited to resourceful guests who are familiar with lighting fires, swinging an axe and understanding rural courtesies. The abundance of wildlife is used to peace so if you are taking a dog with you then please keep it within eyesight and always under your control. Please also consider that the mobs of kangaroos that roam the property include some large bucks (boomers) that can be confrontational if surprised so please proceed with caution if approaching grazing animals.

Excellent spot!!! So close to Bendigo but far enough away for it to be peaceful and rural. Plenty of room, amenities were spotless, and the extra visitors (dogs) were a welcomed nightly addition. Defintiely recommend for anyone wanting a relaxing camp. Thanks Chrissy 😊

We had the most amazing stay here! Our children absolutely loved it. The animals were a huge highlight and kept them smiling the whole time. The property is beautiful, peaceful and full of character. Chrissy is one in a million… incredibly warm, thoughtful and such a wonderful host. We originally booked for 4 nights but loved it so much we stayed an extra night! We felt so welcomed and cared for the entire time. Couldn’t recommend this place more. We’ll definitely be back again!

Excellent directions - we had no trouble locating the site. Chrissy was there to welcome us and show us around and we picked a nice flat spot for our tent. The outdoor shower is fun! Resident dogs are all very friendly. Sorting out power was also very easy. Highly recommend!

We absolutely loved our stay. The toilets and showers were very clean, and the hosts were on site, always helpful when needed without being intrusive. The environment was quiet and calm perfect for a relaxing break.
Other sites were nearby, but it was not loud at all. Everything was on point for a proper chill time. It’s close to the city, and the lovely dogs and cats kept their distance. We really enjoyed the site and would happily recommend it to future Hipcampers.

Lovely safe flat mowed grass area with a central communal shed for shade and some trees. A great place for children.
The power was great with extra long leads to borrow so you can take advantage of most areas on the property. Taps for drinking water. Nicely tucked away from the roads and private from the house but very convenient with the shops less than 3 KMs away.
So nice to be next to the State park too with a private gate so you can explore the old gold mining area very easily.
The shower and toilet were clean and a definite bonus.
The many friendly dogs, cats and birds would delight children.
A lovely spot. Recommended.

Excellent location and close to everything, open space with the sounds of country birds. Facilities were close and very clean, able to drive in and out with ease anytime. We had no requirement for power re use of solar power on the caravan roof. Plenty of space and room for a log fire if required.
