Amid the forested hills of the Fleurieu Peninsula, Delamere has some of the peninsula’s best hiking trails right on its doorstep. Go hiking, mountain biking, or horseback riding in the Second Valley Forest Reserve (the Ingalalla Falls trail is a firm favorite), or head to Deep Creek National Park, where you can take your pick of 15 hiking trails, spot western grey kangaroos, and enjoy whale-watching from shore during the winter migration. Campers have plenty of options in the national park, with five campgrounds, a mix of campervan, caravan, and tent sites, plus hike-in campsites along the trails. Whether you’re taking a road trip along the Fleurieu Way Tourist Drive or heading down to Cape Jervis, where ferries set sail for Kangaroo Island, Delamere makes a strategic rest stop along the way. Plan an extra day or two so you can hit the trails and escape the crowds.
