Best for self-contained campers. There are no toilets, showers, or potable water at this Hipcamp.
‘Kuntha La’ - peaceful place… We are on the water’s edge at the junction of Currency Creek and The River Murray. Our property sits within the International Ramsar Wetlands. Come and enjoy the water birds, kangaroos, spectacular stargazing and wide open skies. Bring your kayaks, explore the waterways and experience the beautiful bird-life, including egrets, herons, harriers, black swans, pelicans, cormorants, moore-hens, ducks and more. Goolwa is at the mouth of the mighty Murray River and the entrance to beautiful Coorong National Park, so there’s plenty of places to explore. We are currently offering space for two self-contained campers. Please note that ALL CAMPERS MUST BE SELF-CONTAINED and LEAVE NO TRACE. There is public dump facility 5km away in South Goolwa. Grounds can be wet and soft during wet weather so please be mindful of your vehicle’s weight and ability to go through wet paddocks. Our property is approximately 4km from beautiful Goolwa township. Attractions include the Historic Steam Ranger Cockle Train which runs from Goolwa to Port Elliot and Victor Harbor each Sunday & Wednesday, and every day during school holidays. There are also a range of cafes, restaurants, galleries, and a distillery. Spirit of the Coorong cruises leave from Goolwa Wharf, where you can also board the historic Oscar W paddle steamer. Markets are held every Sunday at Jaralde Park adjacent to the Goolwa Wharf. Our Riverside campsite is a large flat area near the river which has room for up to three vehicles / tents. It is tree-lined along our southern boundary with uninterrupted views to the river where you’re welcome to fish. Small water craft such as canoes, kayaks and small tinnys may be launched here, but note that the river here is shallow and not suitable for larger vessels. Public boat ramps are a short distance away on the main river channel. Campfires in designated areas are allowed, provided no fire-bans are in place. Please check on arrival, as conditions are changeable. As our home is adjacent to this area we ask that noise be kept to a minimum after dark. Please note this is for self-contained campers only. No hookup services are available at this stage. Follow the signs around the sheds. A beautiful and peaceful spot, great for stargazing!

It was lovely to sit and watch the bids and animals over water. Easy drive into town where there was lots to do. Gracious hosts, knowledgeable of area and there to great you.

Very peaceful location with lots of birdlife. Gillian was the perfect host. Close to Goolwa and coastline for days of exploration. Unfortunately the weather was not kind to us so we could not get out on the kayak. That just gives us an excuse to come back. Thanks Gillian.

Lovely spot, very relaxing. Nice to get out on the water in the kayak. Good spot to set up and explore the close by towns, Goolwa, Middleton, Port Elliot and Victor harbour.

I absolutely loved my stay here! The perfect location to drop my paddle board into the water. Close to the bike trail to ride into Victor Harbor. The actual campsite was great with perfect sky views on a clear ish night. Lita of birds around which were beautiful to listen to. Will 100% be coming back next time I’m in the area! Thank you for having me, you were great hosts!

We really enjoyed camping at Gillian's site. The land was really beautiful and we had lots of space to ourselves. Michael and Gillian were really welcoming. We met with Michael, he was really friendly checked with us if we needed anything and even provided us with free firewood for the campsite. Even though Gillian was away on our day of camping, she was always available online for any questions we had and promptly replied without much delay. It was a great experience for us and I would surely recommend their campsite.

My stay at Kuntha La was perfect. Goolwa is a good location for couples and families. Lots of nearby activities and markets, really peaceful and safe location during the night also. Michael and Gillian were close to the camp site which was very useful but you had your privacy at the same time. It was also a well labelled and easy to navigate site! They provided us with firewood but there was also houses nearby with firewood available for purchase. Definitely recommend a stay here!
