One of the best destinations for hiking, camping, bushwalking, swimming, Kayaking, fishing, mountain bike riding (bicycles only), bird watching, 4wdriving and even fossicking.,
Dogs, men's best friend, are definitely welcome. But if your dog is not friendly or is likely to venture into someone else camping area, than will have to be on a leash.
If travelling in a 2wd please contact us before booking, some of the campgrounds have to be reached by crossing the creeks, Girard camp is one of them where the office and the showers are, at times this crossing is under water and is only accessible by 4wd. Other campgrounds are available near the entry gate that don't require a creek crossing for access and toilets are available on some of them.
One side of the property is bound by Emu Creek and the other by Girard Creek, both creeks have enough water with some permanent deep water holes for all year activities.
Sightseeing inside the property we have Girard Falls, a 50m high waterfall, nature at it's best. In the vicinity you have the Clarence river at Paddy's Flat Road and Hootons Road within minutes drive from the property.
The only entry into the property is by Emu Creek Rd a gravel road.
Emu Creek Retreat is located in the far north-east of New South Wales. We are approximately 200 km from Brisbane, Toowoomba and Gold Coast, 150km from Byron Bay. Tabulam is the nearest town 12km away.
Fuel and groceries are available at Tabulam along with a post office, pub and police station. Casino is 68km away and Tenterfield 78km.
Once a working cattle property, in 1993 was converted into a camping and 4WD park. Since 2017 has been a family own and operated property, pet friendly, we are using the existing large camping grounds to convert it into a camping paradise.
Two properties combined with close to 2800 acres, fronting Paddy’s Flat Rd for 2km and extends 7km to the back fence bordering a 22000 acre cattle property.
The front section is undulating with plantation forest (spotted gum) and bushland, towards the back it has mountains, steep terrain and millions of trees with spectacular views and great hiking tracks.

Weekend Trip to Glenelg Station
The Drover cabin is really special. After a few cold beers in the cooling summer afternoon. Scrubbing yourself clean in the bathtub among the gumtrees and local fauna is truly a peaceful experience. It was wasn’t too hot at night and a fan was provided and already turned on when we arrived.
A fridge, gas stove, hot water as well all the basic things like coffee and pots and pans. It really was a very easy and care free experience.
Reminiscent of a Wild West tv show, sitting on the deck with a book as the light faded, it was like stepping back in time. Old whips, saddle parts, books and many other old trinkets and quirks the more you looked the more you found.
Cozy and romantic for couples and a real intriguing stay for history geeks. Absolutely loved it.

Weekend Trip to Clarence River Wilderness Lodge
Our stay at Clarence River Wilderness Retreat was absolutely beautiful. The property is so remote and serene that you truly feel like the only people in the world. The river and surrounding nature are breathtaking — the perfect place to slow down and reconnect.
Living simply for the weekend was so peaceful and grounding. We had everything we needed; the off-grid amenities were fantastic and thoughtfully set up. We spent our days playing cards, strumming guitar by the fire, watching an incredible storm roll in at night, and soaking up the sunshine the next day while canoeing and relaxing by the river.
A special mention to Sharon, one of the owners, who was so friendly, welcoming, and proud of her beautiful property. Hearing her stories about her family and the land made the experience even more special. We felt completely safe, comfortable, and cared for during our stay.
If you’re looking for a place to truly unwind, disconnect, and immerse yourself in nature — this is it.

A beautiful spot with considerate and thoughtful hosts. The Vet Shed is well provisioned with lots of handy things you’d normally have at home. Everything was clean and ready for our arrival. Robyn was very responsive and nothing was too much trouble. We would definitely come back with the family and friends.

I loved staying in the bunkhouse at The Ranch on Clarence. It's an amazing property with plenty of animals, breathtaking views, and plenty of places to walk on the property. Add to it that you are really close to Yates Crossings where you can 4wd, go for a swim, or even just go for a nice walk around. I would very highly recommend staying here.

The Drover was simply amazing to get away to, we were only there for a night it certainly wasn’t enough to stay and enjoy it as much as we would have liked. But our one night was nothing short of perfect, Amanda has done an absolutely fantastic job at creating the perfect feel and vibe of their beautiful land. Great location and staff were pleasant. We usually camp but for this weekend we decided to book a cabin. Very overpriced for a cabin with no toilet or shower and we were slugged an extra cleaning fee of $30 which was not disclosed when I paid and booked. We booked a pet friendly cabin.

Shanti is a very welcoming host.
The Bunkhouse is an experience on its own! Sleeps 9 pp, comfy matresses, a small fridge and an amazing covered outdoor seating area to enjoy a fire at night.
Phantom, the stunning stallion, roams freely around the property. 3 hens, 1 roster and 5 friendly dogs complete the happy family.
Other horses are across the road ready for a beautiful ride to the river, where you can get to swim with your horse. This is just an amazing adventure away from the croud, where kids (and big kids!) Can just relax and enjoy.

We really loved glamping at the vet shed. It was very luxurious with all the amenities, linen, wifi, fully functional kitchen, fire pit and bbq. Robyn was very helpful and responsive to messages. We really loved the fire place in the back yard. There was even a washing machine for washing clothes. Everything was so well thought of to ensure we had a comfortable and luxurious stay for e.g the kitchen had Milo, coffee, hot chocolate, cornflakes, pasta etc. The fridge had sauces, milk, cold water. Bathroom was very clean and had top of the range amenities.
The view from the backyard is breath taking with the mountain ranges in the back ground and it was very private with no one around.
The glenlyon dam is near by and there are some fishing spots and river access areas which Robyn had mapped for us.
Robyn’s attention to finer details in making our stay extra comfortable is highly commendable.
Highly recommend the vet shed.

Absolutely stunning cabin. Has it all and Amanda has gone above and beyond with the build and fit out has so many nice touches. Beautiful creek, firepit area and little kitchen inside. We will definitely be back for a winter cabin experience
