The Rail Trail can be accessed to the rear of the property offering guests a great walking or bike riding trail with direct access to Atherton and to the Tolga Hotel. A few places to explore are Lake Tinaroo, Paronella Park, Yungaburra platypus viewing, Crater Lakes, Herberton Historic Museum, Millaa Millaa Waterfalls, Curtain Fig Tree and Gallo Dairy Farm to name a few. A perfect base for all of your Tablelands exploring. Pets are welcome if you have your own van. The park is walking distance to coffee shops, takeaway, Tolga Hotel, newsagent, bakery, hair salon and The Humpy. Supermarkets and the main town of Atherton are just a 5 minute drive along with a dump point. We hope to see you here soon !

Welcome to my refuge. It's 60 acres of natural woodland of eucalypts acacias and bloodwoods, and home to wallabies, a few kangaroos, quolls, bandicoots, possums, and the reclusive bettong. It's also bird watchers paradise. Down the back is Ada creek and Emerald Falls is just 4km down the road. Ideal for mountain bikers looking for some accommodation. Be woken up by the birds and watch the wallabies grazing. The hot air balloons take off close by, Emerald Falls is down the road, all the tracks through the Danbulla State Forest are close and there are wineries and distilleries in the district. Total privacy for you.

Boonjie is a great place to base yourself to visit the amazing sights in the surrounding area! Our property has beautiful native visitors, including the occasional cassowary, and regular morning choir of ground dwelling chowachillas. This campsite suits self reliant and self contained campers who bring their own camping toilet/shower, and water supply. Lamins Hill lookout, and the entrances to Windin Falls, and the famous trek up Queensland’s Highest Mountain, are only minutes away. So too, are the Atherton Tablelands‘ crater lakes, Eacham & Barrine, and the small town of Malanda, with its iconic falls, both designated swimming destinations, though, highlights are the clear creeks between there and Boonjie (means mate). This is near “Top Camp”, where First Nations people would arrive after the gruelling walk up the Russel River, from the coast, where Innisfail now stands (Innisfail can be seen from the top road). With evidence of European and Chinese gold miners, from the 1900’s, this spot is both remote AND central, for a day trip to Millaa Millaa’s extraordinary Falls circuit, Herberton’s Historical Village and the flowered and funky Yungaburra.

Baron river retreat isn’t just a beautiful place for camping for a few nights, it’s a special place that soothes the soul and refreshes and recharges you. From the moment you arrive and drive down through the farm, giving a cheeky wave to the cows you can feel your troubles melt away. The camp site itself has so much space and options for all tastes from lush grass in full sun to shady spots under the trees, all of which are flat and easy to set up on. Where ever you choose to make home for the time you are here you will be able to hear the gentle sounds of water bubbling over the rapids while you’re serenaded by the kookaburras. There’s a wonderful flat area next to the river which is perfect to have your morning coffee and if you’re lucky you might spot the resident platypus. Go for a refreshing swim, a paddle up the river or brave one of the rapid pools for a refreshing massage. And to top it all off you can finish the day with a hot shower courtesy of the donkey hot water system followed by toasting marshmallows around the fire pit while looking for fireflies. The green loo is a bonus for those who don’t do “bushy bushy” You will not regret a stay at Baron River retreat and the hardest thing is leaving at the end of the stay.

My partner and I had a fantastic time at Glens property. It was very hot but the creek had the perfect temperature for a cooldown. The best about our stay: No phone reception!! (At least not with Optus haha) Glen was incredibly kind and came down a couple of times as storms approached to let us know. We will be back, for sure!!

What an amazing little hidden gem, the three campsites are so private, all on the creek and surrounded by nature. Right in the heart of the beautiful rainforest of far North Qld tablelands. So many birds, the weather is so much cooler than the coast and the hosts Alan and Sue are super friendly and make you feel at home on their gorgeous property. Suitable for totally self contained campers. We will definitely be back.

Great site - especially for children! Our preschool aged children enjoyed feeding the chickens and spotting for wildlife at night (though they were too loud to see much!) I was incredibly impressed that there were no mosquitos!!! Shame we only had one night - but it was worth it and the area surrounding is beautiful - stunning waterfalls, and they’re quiet with no other visitors first thing in the morning!

Camp fire under the stars with so many beautiful flowers scattered around the gardens. This place is truly your ultimate camping experience. The land where we camp is large enough for multiple caravans and level. Right in front of where you camp is the most magical fresh water creek. Plus your own private waterfall which is a short walk from your site. This place is truly so special and magical. Hubby and I have a rule that we never return to the same place twice. In 15 years of travelling around the world- this place is the only exception Jodie is so wonderful and welcoming. Please please please respect this place and leave no trace. Jodie thank you so much for allowing us to stay here. It really is one of a kind Oh my god! I forgot to mention the 2 most friendly and kind camp doggos that will come say hi and Blue will lead you to the waterfall like a little rainforest wizard guide haha
