The 120 acre working beef and horse farm is situated a scenic 2 hour drive North from Sydney or 1 hour East from Newcastle. Whether you chose to stay of one of our campsites or in our pioneer-style cottage, all visitor being awoken to the natural bush sounds of lyre birds and cooling their heels in the crystal creek at the bottom of the property. On your way in or out, be sure to check out the boutique village of Wollombi which is just 10 minutes from Cranky Rock, where you'll enjoy wine tasting, fresh produce and quaint cafes. Other must-see's in the area include the Olney State Forest and the Wattagan National Park.The property is located just off a scenic drive, over a 2wd accessible creek crossing. It is peaceful and secluded. Campers can used shared kitchen and bathroom facilities located at the top of the camp area. Mountain wilderness with rain forests and small creeks and springs from 350m to 800m, the property is off the Mt Royal arm from south west side of the Barrington Tops. We have Km’s of walking, 4x4, cycle, motorcycle, side by side quad trails and if you like make your own. We have a main cabin with separate accommodation with off grid power with all the ammenities, also a Glamping style Pine Cabin with basic off grid and basic camping amenities. The property has numinous camping areas or if you like set up camp where you like. Dog friendly so long as the dog is to. There are minor logging activity during mid week in quarantine areas of the property, happy to guide and explain how that works. We are 45min from Singleton in the Hunter Valley, a scenic drive on tared road to the main gate, then you need a 4x4 from then on and 5 km to the property.

Absolutely loved little brothers, dale was very welcoming and helpful would definitely recommend and will be returning soon!! Me and my partner and our two dog loved our stay we took our dirt bikes loved the trails. The hut had everything you need, toilet and shower very clean had no issues and no complaints Very peaceful place it was very relaxing

Thank you Mat and Jenna for having us !! When we arrived Mat was so welcoming and showed us where everything was, the property is so big and beautiful plenty of space for everyone to pick there camping spot. The bathrooms and showers were well maintained and very clean. This place is nice for families and couples. If your someone who wants to sleep on a bed the cabins are perfect as you can sit outside all night in front of the bon fire then go inside to your cabin to sleep!! Wifi wasnt to bad !! but if you need to make calls to fam and friends you can just walk up closer to the main house :) I would def come back here again ❤️ There is also a small spot in the town 7 mins away with 2 cafes me and my partner drove up there and spent 4 hours exploring everything there all in the same street the wine tasting, art gallery, cafe, museum, 2x thrif stores was really nice !!! 100000/10

The best camping experience. We spent 3 nights at Dales camp ground (the honeymoon cabin) and we wish we could have stayed longer. It's amazing for adults and kids you will never get bored. The enduro trails are amazing for dirt biking through the mountain, they even have smaller wide open spaces for young kids who ride. So many places to explore. Dale and Cameron's hospitality is 5 star. They are amazing hosts. We can't wait to plan our next trip.

Plenty of camping space. Facilities were excellent. Cabins were very clean and cosy. Close to Wollombi if you require a coffee fix. Would have been great if we were able to access the creek . Overall a fantastic place for camping with friends and family.

This campsite was an absolute delight! Nestled deep within the bush, the secluded location offered a truly peaceful and private getaway. The 4WD tracks leading to the site were challenging and exciting, adding to the adventure. Our host was incredibly welcoming and generous. He went above and beyond, inviting us for an exhilarating ATV ride and even a target shooting session – a truly unforgettable experience. His passion for the area was evident, and he was eager to share his knowledge and facilities. The cabin itself was well-equipped with ample power and water supply, along with all the basic necessities. The cabin was solid and cozy, providing a comfortable and secure base for our stay. The toilet was clean and well-maintained. The surrounding area boasts some fantastic hiking trails with breathtaking views. It was the perfect place to explore nature and soak in the tranquility.

We loved our stay at cranky rock and are return guests. The hosts have poured so much love into creating a space that is full of character and comfortable for their guests. My husband, myself and our dog Millie were well looked after and loved that the hosts also went the extra mile to make sure we had a enjoyable stay we loved that the extra breakfast items they included of fresh eggs etc. Thank you once again for opening cranky rock up for us to stay on our journey back to Sydney. Cranky Rock Cottage was a delightful find! Nestled amidst stunning scenery, the cottage itself is beautifully appointed with a cozy and rustic charm. We particularly enjoyed the farm, views and hot tub. The location was perfect for exploring nearby historic towns and wineries. Pam & Lindsay are excellent hosts, kind and helpful. Overall, we had a wonderful stay and would highly recommend Cranky Rock Cottage for a peaceful and memorable getaway.

2 nights at Cranky Rock Hunter Valley

Lindsay and Pam have created a unique cottage set among the fields and mountains near Wollumbi. Lindsay has used his particular knowledge of historic building techniques to create a space that takes you back to the mid nineteenth century, with pull cord electric lights and hewn logs throughout. One of the highlights for me was the abundant bird life. The native vegetation planted around the cottage brings past a host of scarlet browed finches, wrens and black cockatoos. Well worth slowing down with a cup of coffee on the veranda.
