We run a sheep farm on our property located north east of Dubbo. This is the land of big sky country. The sunrises and sunsets are spectacular here along with starry nights, beside the campfire especially when the full moon arrives. It is nothing short of amazing as you marvel at the sights from the verandah of The Tiny Home or from your campsite. Not far from our property you’ll find the Goonoo CCA Zone 1 National Park. CCA Zone parks are Community Conservation Areas reserved as national parks. The greater Dubbo region offers many activities for tourists, adventure seekers and nature lovers. The Tiny House is fully self-contained with a fold out double bed and a little kitchenette featuring a fridge, cookware and utensils and a BBQ. The bathroom/laundry are separate. In the early 1970’s Mr James, the owner of 'Biara', subdivided three 25 acre blocks across the road from the original homestead. The first block was sold to his nephew, the middle block was to be purchased by the Preston family and ‘The Gateway’ was purchased by a Mr Carveth. Unfortunately, the sale of the middle block fell through then, due to family illness, 'Biara' was sold and the family moved to Blackheath. After this move, and as thank you to his son, Mr James transferred the title of the middle of the three subdivided blocks to his only son, William. Back in the late 1960’s, early 1970’s, the area was vastly different than it is today. Travelling to school entailed a car trip to Hargraves then bus to Mudgee which would have been a 2 hour round trip! The area was far more isolated as there was no power and entailed an overland phone line, which had to be regularly repaired if residents wanted to be able to communicate with the outside world. The site allows mainly for camping and relaxing although there are numerous dirt roads to explore, Mudgee wineries close by and Burrendong Dam not far away (accessible via Hill End Road near Erudgere). Hargraves is also known for it's alluvial gold deposits and fossickers still go there regularly to check out Louisa Creek. There is 15km's of dirt road which needs to be traveled to reach the property. Dependent on weather, and if it has been graded recently, this road can be in varying states of repair. In heavy rain it may be difficult to get 2WD access via the public road due to the clay content in the road . Kangaroo, wallaby, owl species, kookaburra, echidna, snakes, various lizards, including shinglebacks, are often seen on these roads and the property.

We spent 3 days here and it was lovely! The amenities including a shower were very clean and tidy, with plenty of hot water (just need to move the cute little frogs along before use). Hosts are very friendly and accommodating. Make sure you ask them for a tasting at the distillery while you’re there. There’s a free camp down the road, but this farm is ideal if you want a little more privacy and security.

We had another great stay at Home Base. It’s very peaceful and such a great place to relax. Plenty of shelter and love the forge for camp fire cooking. Recommend staying here. Stop at the little shop at Hargraves on the way in. The pies are delicious.

Billy's Bush Retreat was awesome, all the sites were spread out so you never heard anyone from other sites. Mark was an awesome host, set up yabby fishing in the dam for the kids and also some land scurfing behind his buggy. The bar area looked amazing with all the old items scattered around. What was even better the broncos won the grand final when we were there which we watched on a big screen TV while Mark had the smoker going. Only 15 minutes out of Dubbo and you felt like you were in the middle of no where. Well done mate and happy 8th birthday to Billy's.

Fantastic quiet night. Great instructions. Perfect fireplace, and benefit of having 240v and a roof when a wild storm came through was appreciated. There is a pump or genset on across st the farms all night. Apart from that, no noise! Occasional horsey whinny and a few night birds. We spotlighted microbats. Saw lots of wombat evidence but no Wally. Nice chilly, start to the say, with a hill to the West. Drove further up the valley to walk over Reuben’s trail to Baerami: no go, it means we’d have to access via private property and neighbours at Baramul suggested kindly ‘it might not be wise’.. Thanks Clare we loved the schoolhouse. Esp the monkey bars!

Great spot for a quick overnight camp. The toilets and shower were nice and clean. We were the only ones there so it was nice and quiet. We used the bbq in the camp kitchen for a quick cook up, which was handy. We’ll have to come back again when we have more time! Communication was excellent

Weekend Trip to The Stockyard Experience

My family and I cannot recommend The Stockyard Experience enough! The property is situated in an amazing area in Mumbil, yet still conveniently located a short distance from Wellington. The camp is well equipped—tents are spacious, the beds comfortable, the amenities clean and well maintained. As other reviewers have mentioned, Vicky and Brian are amazing host; who were prompt and open in their commutation from start to finish of our booking. Not only were they hospitable and warm, but they also incorporated small touches around the camp to make our stay even more welcoming. We thoroughly enjoyed our time and definitely look forward to coming back the next opportunity we get to unplug and unwind. Many thanks again Vicky and Brian! In short: Perfect spot for a family’s first camp!

1 night at Black Gate Distillery

I stayed at the Black Gate Distillery camp ground after stopping by for a rum and whiskey tasting. I can't recommend the tasting enough. Genise ran me through a tasting of the available spirits, giving a good explanation of each sample. Then, Brian took me into the distillery to see the inner workings. His passion and enthusiasm was obvious. He gave me tastings of several of the spirits in the barrels while explaining the process. In fact, I had to tell him that my taste buds had had enough as he was happy to keep going. I was the only person at the camp ground, so it was difficult to rate it. Firewood was supplied, but it was a waste lighting a fire for myself, so I didn't. The amenities were very good - clean, hot showers. There was a BBQ available, but I didn't use it.
