Our beautiful border collie, Sollie, will naturally want to come say hi no matter which site you pick. There are plenty of local food and wine venues in the surrounding area for you to enjoy. Pets are welcome but we do have livestock on the property, so please keep them on leash. Campfires are allowed as long as there are no fire restrictions in place. All campers must have their own supplies and be self sufficient as we do not supply any amenities: you will need to be self-contained with own camping toilet, shower and water. Please do not dig a toilet hole, even though you leave it covered, it doesn't take long for the foxes to dig it up!! There is mobile reception. No shooting, archery or hunting. Camper trailers and caravans are welcome but can only stay at the easily accessible camp site. Our property is located in Tumut Plains at a nursery that specialises in African Violets. Enjoy the serene landscape with uninterrupted views of nearby hills, whilst relaxing under the shade of an Elm tree. The house on the property is 120 years old and was once a school that has now been converted. The property also has some of the most amazing sunsets on offer. Descendants of the original landowners still live in nearby Heritage listed Braidwood. We have 104 acres of beautiful and varied terrain with fabulous rolling views. During your stay enjoy our amazing bird life, kangaroos, wallabies, possibly echidnas, rosenburgs, wombats and even deer. Guests are required to be fully self sufficient with their own toilet/shower facilities and must take all waste with them on departure. Campfires are welcome permitting there are no restrictions in place at the time of your stay. This is the ideal location to just relax and enjoy nature at its finest. On a clear night the stars are amazing. We are only an hour from Canberra situated halfway between the picturesque towns of Braidwood and Bungendore, both within 20 mins away. Sorry, no pets.

Merigan Farm is a 1400 Hectare (3500 acre) working sheep and cattle farm. Our family has lived at Merigan for more than 50 years. It has been a farm since the 1840s and we still run sheep and cattle in a regenerative manner, to this day. It’s a pleasure to be able to share the countryside and farm with guests. We currently offer two accommodation options: Cherry Tree - A cabin with a beautiful farm outlook. With a bookcase full of books and a fire pit for cosy evenings, it's the perfect escape. The Quarters - A private section of the old farmhouse offering rural charm and a perfectly comfortable stay. Merigan is the name of the local Parish and on Ngunawal country. It has been recounted by indigenous locals that Merigan means Dingo. The story being that Merigan fought the Bunyip and in their tussle created the rivers and creeks across the range. It’s a southern Australian Mediterranean environment with distinct seasons – it can reach over 42 degrees and in the winter its been known often to snow. Sometimes in summer the easterly sea breezes reaches over the range and the smell of sea salt cools the hot evening. Merigan offers a range of activities, to relax and settle into rural life. One of the best ways to get the feel of Merigan is just taking a walk around the property. We have 3500 acres of space to meander around and a great spots for picnics, drinks and photographs. Feel free to use the Tennis Court, balls and racquets under one of the verandas at the front of the house and the bocce court at the bottom of the garden. Bungendore, 18km away, is a thriving little country town with Galleries, gift-shops, cafés, bakeries, coffee shops and bars. The Top Pub (The Royal ) is the more casual of the hotels. The Bottom Pub (The Lake George) has a fancy restaurant attached to the more informal pub area. Braidwood is a funky Heritage town about 25km East of Bungendore and well worth a visit. It has outstanding shops and eateries and 2 pubs. The Braidwood Hotel being my favourite. Tarago is 14km away. The Loaded Dog do meals but mainly on weekends (Pizzas during the week). Best to check as it varies. Other local attractions include Lark Hill Winery, Lerida Estate Winery, Turlla Truffles and Bungendore Woodworks.

1 night at Jarabin on the Murrumbidgee

Jara II is the ultimate rural getaway. Located about 70 km from Canberra along the Hume Highway towards Melbourne, it’s a place I can easily see becoming very popular for Canberrans looking to escape the city. We were fortunate enough to stay just one night while passing through from Queensland to Victoria, and I truly wish we’d booked longer. I’d say a minimum of two nights is ideal, and four would be amazing — there’s so much to explore in the region, yet simply sitting back and watching life drift by would be just as rewarding. Ben, the host, has provided absolutely everything you could want. His attention to detail and the small luxury touches are second to none. There’s another bungalow identical to Jara II a discreet distance away — close enough that two groups could book both and stay connected, yet far enough to ensure complete privacy. Down the hill beside the river is a large, flat paddock where Ben hosts campers in caravans, tents and the like. It’s an impressive spot in its own right, right next to a beautiful flowing river. While we were there, a group in canoes paddled by, taking on the gentle rapids. My wife found time to meditate on the hill, taking in the bird calls, while Ben’s cows wandered past — just as curious about us as we were about them. And the nights… oh, the nights. A sky full of stars, the kind you can only see in places like this, while sitting around a cosy fire. I’ll be dreaming about coming back to this majestic place.

Weekend Trip to The Ridge

A weekend at the Ridge provided exactly what my wife and I were after. A weekend where we did nothing but relax. The hosts, John and Pippa, were wonderful and very welcoming at their property. The walk with John and the Goats was insightful. John is full of fun facts about the area and, of course, Goats. To our surprise, the walk with the goats was very calming. The camp spot was great with a terrific view of the valley. It had plenty of options as to where you could set up your camp. There was a lo a very well-kept fireplace I would strongly recommend the addition of the Eggs and the bread; they were great. We will definitely be returning, I would say, many times. Weekend Trip to Shepherds Rest

My family, our dog and some close friends drove down from Sydney to Shepherds Rest for a nice long weekend get away, and honestly aside from the wind deciding it wanted to party - it was such a beautiful area. The local fauna gave a symphony of sounds to wake up to, along side the crisp, fresh air. Jacqui’s property has a communal area with a cozy kitchen, clean bathroom space, seated bbq space and fire pits. Jacqui is a super wholesome and lovely host, who is more than willing to try and help out for anything you need, we were greeted by her and her little shadow Brookie, a cattle dog who just wants to love you and check in on you. If you’re wondering if Shepherd’s rest is worth the visit (or the drive, if you’re from Sydney) I can with confidence 100% say for certain. Just make sure to pack for the weather in the cooler months, cause it can get really cold of a night time. Thanks again for having us, Jacqui. :)

Weekend Trip to Burrendah Farm Camp

We had an awesome long weekend at Burrendah Farm Camp! Sarah was super friendly and easy to communicate with, which made everything really smooth. The campsite was perfect, beautiful spot with incredible views of the Murrumbidgee River. We saw so much wildlife during our stay, an echidna wandered through our camp, two eagles flying overhead, heaps of roos, wallabies, lizards, and plenty of birds. It was great having access to the cottage too, with a proper bathroom and running water. Highly recommend this place if you’re after a peaceful spot surrounded by nature. We’ll definitely be back!
