Abrams Creek is like camping in a nature preserve, rather than in a commercial campground.  On our campground, there are no generators, loud electronics, or other things that would distract from appreciating the sights and sounds of this pristine natural environment.   And this is always a great place to beat the heat! Hot showers are included, and all sanitary facilities are *sterilized* between guests.  We have taken every measure to safeguard your health! We are located in the mountainous Potomac Highlands region of West Virginia. Our vision is an environmentally conscious, eco-friendly campground developed in harmony with nature. We are not only a business, but also serve as an anchor for others who want to live more simply and close to the earth. The best camping near Tygart Lake State Park guide

Overview

About

You’ll barely have time to dry off between all the kayaking, canoeing, and boating available here. And that’s only the beginning! After a long hiatus, the swimming beaches at Tygart Lake have opened up again, which means you basically never have to get out of the water. And why would you want to? Tygart Lake has earned its reputation as one of the bassiest bass waters around. This lake’s deep, cool water means you can catch all the perch and catfish your hungry heart desires.

If water’s not really your thing, don’t sweat. Hikes for all skill sets, plenty of camping, and access to two golf courses will give you plenty of things to do while staying dry.

When to go

The ideal time to visit Tygart Lake State Park is during the warm summer months, from May to September, when the park is in full bloom and the lake's waters invite for a swim. Winter can be harsh, with limited access and activities, making it less ideal for a visit.

Know before you go

  • Check weather conditions before your visit to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience.
  • Be aware of park hours, typically from 8:30am to 5pm, and plan your activities within this timeframe.
  • Remember to pack essentials like water, sunscreen, and insect repellent for a comfortable outing.
  • Stay informed about any trail closures or area restrictions during your visit.
  • Accessibility varies across the park, so inquire ahead if you require special accommodations.
