New Plymouth isn’t only known for its unique layout—it’s the only double horseshoe-shaped town in America. The town and its surrounding area are full of prime Idaho camping and outdoor activity, as well. Hiking trails and fishing banks await in Payette River Wildlife Management Area, where campers can watch nesting waterfowl on the Snake and Payette Rivers. County campgrounds near the area offer free wifi, access to dump stations, and 50-amp electric hookups for RVs. East of New Plymouth, enjoy boating, water skiing, and windsurfing in Boise National Forest. Forest campsites are equipped with picnic tables, fire rings, and barbecue grills for campers who want to spend the night. More swimming can be found at Eagle Island State Park. Campers can also try out the 19-hole disc golf course as well as five miles of horseback-riding trails. Private campsites surround the state park, and many offer firepits, restrooms, and showers.
