Get Lost or Find Yourself.
Sway Camping is a private, Off Grid camping experience in Rock Island TN.
Situated between Isha Yoga center, Fall Creek Falls, and Rock Island state park, this property is something special. Each campsite offers a private space perfect for getting away, or large enough for family and groups. Pet Friendly property with lots of room to be a part of nature along the beautiful Rocky River. Camp along the river or up in your own private forest. One of the darkest skies around so be ready for some stargazing at night by the fire.
This is a property I purchased in 2018 to create a camping experience that reflected the image of camping as a kid. This isn’t a "hotel without walls" like state parks and KOA's/ This is real camping. No neighbors. No electric wires. Just nature and beauty in a quiet environment. Clothing optional sites available and great space for small events and large groups.
Get lost or find yourself relaxing along the Rocky River. Stay in a hammock, a tent, camper, RV, or one of our cabins. Privacy and freedom is what we are about. Pet friendly camping that should be shared, but please don't tell everyone you know. Only your favorite people.. Then come camp!

The river nearby adds a tranquil touch to the stay, making it a popular spot for campers looking to unwind. Guests frequently highlight Chris, the host, for his helpfulness and the ease of communication, ensuring a smooth and welcoming experience. While most reviews are glowing, a few mention the challenge of the walk to the river, but overall the location's natural beauty and peace are the biggest draws.
Host Chris is very nice and gave great instructions for getting to camp.
Campsite was beautiful, and open. Not crowded next to other campers. We will be going here again for sure!
The river spot at Hammock Sway was great! If you are looking for a non campground away from concrete slabs where you can actually hang a hammock, this is it!! There is short walk downhill from the camp spot and parking, but it worth it. Chris was amazing! His directions were spot on, and the spot was just as described. We even bought fresh eggs and fire wood from him.
The night sky was beautiful. Without the light pollution you can see it lit up with so many stars. The privacy is what I liked most about sway. Also Chris was very accommodating, polite, and hospitable. I booked late and he was still responsive and met me at the site so I wouldn't get lost. 100% recommend. Good pricing too.
This site was great-- lots of privacy, tons of room for tents and hammocks. We had a great time playing in the creek and it was only about 30 minutes to Rock Island State Park where we went swimming and kayaking. We decided to bail after two nights instead of staying another night due to storms but would definitely come back again.
Owner was very accommodating for our 9:00 pm arrival. Campsite was secluded from other people, didn't see other campers except on the way in and out. Nice trail down to the creek. Fire ring was nice and clean. No mosquitos during our visit in mid June. We were looking for secluded campsite and we found it.
My wife and I loved camping here. The site was clean with plenty of room. Chris was a great host. The campsite and river was as private as it could be. Which was great cause we never had to put clothes on all weekend, just free as could be and one with nature!
We loved camping at Hammock Sway. Chris was awesome in answering all of our questions and he has firewood for purchase if needed. The camp spot was beautiful and private. Close to the water and the swing. Would definitely stay again and highly recommend. We did a two night 3 day. Very primitive, lets you connect with nature. Thank you Chris.
Absolutely LOVED this spot. Feels so secluded and a 5 minute walk to the creek. Lots of spots for hammocks. Chris was reachable by phone for anything we needed. Will be back!
Had a great time at the property. Site was wonderfully maintained. The river was a quick hike from the site where we were able to sit on the rocks and enjoy the scenery. Chris isn’t lying about the eggs- absolutely eggellent. Only negative was the abundance of ticks which was to be expected this time of year.
We hope to be back for an additional stay!
This was a great place for my first solo camping trip. I chose Chris’s place because it was centrally located between the different state parks that I wanted to visit during the day and because I wanted ample privacy at my campsite. It was easy to find (the address works on Waze!) and definitely offered the privacy I was looking for. Chris was very nice and made sure that I was accommodated. He introduced me to his chickens which was nice! There were barking dogs sometimes at night and the land is rugged so good bug spray is a necessity and I’d recommend earplugs if you’re a light sleeper like me. You also need good clearance on your vehicle. I drive a crosstrek and was fine, but I don’t think a car would make it back easily. I’d definitely stay here again the next time I need a private getaway! Thanks again Chris!
Perfect. I’m new to TN and this was the first place I’ve gone camping. Water access, private, trees, shade, open areas, beautiful night sky. Me and the wife will be back very soon
We had a great time tent camping on Chris’ land! Lots of open space for us to set up, surrounded by beautiful woods, and felt private enough for our group to sprawl out. We went to the creek in the morning and it was gorgeous! Would recommend this spot to others and Chris is the best!
Very nicely spread out campsites, very private. Great place to hang out for a few days in nature. Chris was very nice and very accommodating. Would definitely stay here again in the future.
Hammock sway is a beautiful place! It felt private and expansive and I enjoyed it a lot and would love to go back! Chris is very welcoming and hospitable:)
Great place to camp! Quiet and secluded, and we loved being right on the river-such a peaceful spot. It was also perfect for letting our dog explore off leash. We briefly met Chris, and he was very nice and seemed accommodating if needed.
My friends and i absolutely LOVE staying at this campsite. Chris is kind and down to earth every time we come see him. The woods are very beautiful and private, yet not far from help if anything happens. We love walking along the river, and exploring around a bit to see what we can find. We will continue to visit every year!
We had such an amazing stay and can’t recommend this place enough. The property is absolutely beautiful, but the highlight was definitely the river. It’s even more stunning in person. The peaceful sound of the water and the surrounding scenery made it the perfect spot to relax and unwind.
Everything felt well cared for, and you can tell a lot of thought has gone into creating such a special space. It was the perfect setting for our group camping trip, and we made some great memories here.
We’d 100% come back again. Thank you for sharing such a gorgeous spot with us!
My friend and I stayed here at campsite 1 for a little getaway and it was honestly such a vibe. Super peaceful, tucked back into nature, very quiet and secluded. Campsite 1 has a short walk to the site from where we parked our cars. Part of the walk includes a steep hill, I recommend boots. The listing recommends AWD, I drive a VW Jetta and didn't have any issues getting in or out, the ground was fairly dry.
Chris & Cheyenne are very nice. Cheyenne brought us our wood and happily gave us directions. We will definitely be back to check out the other campsites!
I feel like I might have hit the wrong review prompt. Just throwing this disclaimer in case I did.
We would absolutely recommend Hip Sway. Great location and sites within the location. Chris was the best. Everything you could ask for in a camp site. We're one hundred percent coming back in warmer weather. Could not ask for a better experience.
This was my second time staying at Chris’s place. It was just as amazing as the first time. I loved hearing creek while sitting at the camp fire. The best part was my dog getting to be off leash and able to explore. Would definitely recommend to anyone and look forward to returning in the future.
We couldn’t have asked for a better overlanding experience! Chris was incredibly communicative, helpful and welcoming throughout booking and the stay itself. The property was well marked, clean, peaceful and we will ABSOLUTELY be back. I would recommend this location to anyone looking for a bit of serenity amongst the trees.
Our stay was incredible! Chris was so nice and very helpful. He went above and beyond to show us around and make sure we knew where everything was and had everything we needed. We enjoyed ourselves. We definitely plan on returning. The property was beautiful and clean. This place is the best!
