Was a very nice place to camp. I am hoping to go again. I had to leave early due to the rain but it was a great trip.

East End at Seven Islands
Great spot and nice hosts! Stayed at site 3 this time and it was just as cool as site 1. The three spots are plenty far so that you don’t see or hear other groups too. Very clean no poison ivy and lots of river front that was easy to access.

We had the most amazing 4 days at Malvern Hill with our 2 year old, 2 dogs, and family friends! We will definitely be going back. The space is big and open but still offers some shade trees so you can keep cool. It was in the 80's and 90's while we were there so we spent our days visiting different places along the james river to go cool off. Our host was very helpful and gave us some great suggestions of places ro go. At night the campsite is quiet and beautiful. It is a neat experience having a fire pit light up an old silo. Definitely one of my favorite hipcamp sites to date!

We ended up at a brand new site on the property and it was amazing! You feel perfectly tucked away. There is access to the river as well as the creek running right off of it. The owners are very kind and helpful! There is wood available to purchase, as well, and it's plenty. So much so, we had a nice fire the whole time. We can't wait to return!

Great site! Unfortunately we got set up and then huge thunderstorm came through and water started rising, so we had to pull up and get out. We were really disappointed because it was such a nice site, set up for great camping and fishing.

Overall good experience. We just came from there and the entrance for a car is going to be tricky on a wet day, getting pretty deep. The road noise is definitely a thing at night, so bring something to drown that out. Other than that, great location. It’s super close to the diner in Waverly for a good breakfast on the way out.

Pondside Bliss
Hi,
Yesterday we had an appointment at 2pm for camping and when we received the location for the farm from your email at this address (3043 Catlett road, Catlett, VA, 20119, United State) it wasn’t a farm it was a Chinese temple , they had to kick us out after we thought that it’s the farm, then we found out that we need to open your app to take us to the direction it sent us to this address (Cranston’s Mill Pond Rd, Williamsburg VA 23188, United State). When we arrived after 3 hours from the first address given their where no farm for camping and we kept calling but no body answered the phone so that was our whole day without finding the farm and not camping and our day went just find the right place ( which we didn’t find) and we didn’t camp, so if you please could call me and also would like my refund back please.

The spot was absolutely beautiful! But there was some junk piled up around the spot that was a bit of an eye sore and took away from the view. There is also a house right next door, so not super private either.

Pondside Bliss
A mixed bag camping at this location. The pond and camp area below a grouping of old oak trees is beautiful. My young son and I really enjoyed kayaking the pond during the day. A nice rubber pad was also located in a flat spot for our tent. The fire pit had not been cleaned in weeks. It took me 30-45mins to dig out layers of old ashes and trash so we could use the fire pit near the pond. While the camp location is nice, there are issues to be aware of. There are neighbors near this farm. Once it became dark there was an incessant barking of dogs on the farm and neighboring houses. Someone next doors was driving a 4 wheeler or something loud late into the night. At approx. 10pm, either mischievous teenagers or a disgruntled neighbor began throwing large rocks every 5 mins or so into the pond in an attempt to startle us. They were hiding and I could not locate their hiding spot. As my young son became scared and not knowing what other heckling would commence during the night, I was forced to pack up and drive home late at night. We camp a lot and this is 1st time I have been force to leave a spot. If you are camping with friends and enjoying a few drinks by the fire late into the evening, this would be an ok spot. However, if your idea of camping is a little solitude and/or you have young kids who go to bed a little after dark I cannot recommend this location.

My family did have an amazing time at this site! The Shenandoah is absolutely beautiful , especially during the fall. The colors were simply breathtaking and the site had a wonderful view of the river!
The site itself was big. Plenty of room for our tent, camping kitchen, and hammock!
The directions to the site, at first, were very wrong. I was sent an address no where near the Shenandoah. The host did correct this information within 24 hours, and the 2nd set of directions were easy to follow and led us straight to the site.
The first thing you notice when you arrive at the site are piles of salt treated wood, broken chairs, and random trash piled up behind the site on the hill. This is also the "parking" area. So, we parked our SUV accordingly and did not have to stare at the "junk yard" the entire weekend.
There was a make-shift fire pit.. It was very dangerous though with out any barrier! So, my kids collected stones from the river and we made it safer.
The access point to the river is lined with golf clubs, that have the club part torn off and is wedged into the ground. There is also an orange extension chord wrapped around the clubs and trees as a barrier to keep you from falling into a good size hole. Along the river's edge there is random rebar sticking out pretty much everywhere. Needless to say..BE CAREFUL with where you step. We did have two young children with us, and this was definitely NOT a safe site for kids.
All in all, we did have a good time! We brought our canoe and enjoyed the river to the fullest! The kids enjoyed running down the hill side. The views are spectacular. I think if the host were to put some time into maintaining the property better.. he/she would have a prime camping spot.

Both husband and wife were wonderful and very helpful. Perfect get-away. Even helped fix a camper issue we had by fashioning a specialty pin for our sway bars.

The host texted us the day before to find out if we had any questions and gave us additional directions. When we arrived, they greeted us from a distance and respected social distancing. They brought out TONS of firewood and started the fire for us when we were ready. We had an electrical hookup right next to the camper on site 2 that we were set up on. There was a small enclosed area for the rest room and an outdoor shower near the house. Site 2 is further away from the house in the wooded area with tons of privacy. Site 1 was set up just the same and closer to the little beach area, etc.
We did not realize they had canoes out for us, along with a trampoline, hammocks, etc. There are plenty of spots for fishing as well. We will certainly be back before it gets too cold out.
Oh, the host even made us a nice desert and brought it out, it was great!

Hosts were gracious and knew just what we needed. (Thanks for the amazing campfire and special surprise.) The campsite was lovely, right on a lake, which we enjoyed kayaking on. The lake was gorgeous, and ducks patrolled the edges; it was great to hear the periodic quacking. The site was excellent...clean, pristine, private enough (campsite #2). There wasn’t electric at the site, but our host put out a power strip by the house so we could charge our phones. Water was at a sink by the house.

Site is right on the south fork river with great views. Appears the hosts have working on cleaning it based on previous reviews. Lots of space to camp and park.

Barbara's spot is serene and very private. She left us to ourselves and only stopped by to check on us our last night before a big rainstorm. She left us water and cooking utensils for the firepit. There are 2 tables and 4 or 5 chairs provided by the fire pit area as well as a large porta potty with a bucket toilet. We only wish it didn't rain so much or we would have taken out the boat, done some fishing and perhaps put our tent site on lower ground. The trails are well kept/mowed and very wide. Don't forget the bug spray, the pond is beautiful but there were lots of tiny mosquitos but one expects that when camping. Make sure to follow the hosts directions... Google maps does not take you to the correct place from the Hipcamp site. We got the directions from the host the day before our trip and they were pretty easy to follow. We hope to try to take the kids back in the Spring!

Site is great but the host not so much. They notified us the day before that someone would be coming to fish at the site, and when we asked how that could be when we booked the entire site they told us we had misunderstood the listing and that that site wasn’t “exclusive.” The individual who came to fish however told us that they had simply double booked it since they use multiple apps to list it. To the hosts credit, they did offer us another site but it was too last minute and we already had some from our group en route. They also did not provide us the code to unlock the gate to the site until several hours after the booking had begun, and not until it was nearly dark, despite sending multiple texts and emails. We were sitting there waiting at that gate for quite some time.

Beautiful spot, rained one day but still very peaceful. Clean and pretty private. You're on someones property, so of course you will know that you are not alone. Host was very accommodating through the weather. Would definitely chose this spot again.

Spent the weekend here with a large group and we really enjoyed our stay. The area is beautiful and there are a lot of nice areas to set up tents. It was pretty private for the most part, although the host (I think) drove up to our site and walked right through it to the other side of the pond to check on something, which I thought was a bit strange. I would also definitely recommend bringing your own tent and not counting on the one provided on site. I messaged the host beforehand and they said we could use it, but then they messaged me again the day that we were planning to arrive and said it was likely unusable due to the rain they had been getting. When we got there it was completely flooded with several inches of water and covered in scum. Thankfully we were not counting on using it and brought enough tents ourselves. Other than that, the site was amazing. Nice fire pit by the water, a grill, and several tables. I would definitely recommend to others, and would not mind coming back and staying there sometime again!

Like others, I'm sad to write this review! When I arrived at around 5pm, there were loggers at work basically right next to the private site, which really cut into the 'peace and quiet' as advertised. More importantly, though, it looked like the rain fly of the tent had snapped some time ago and there was a ton of water, mold, and moss in there. It wasn't possible to set anything up in there and be comfortable. I will say, as soon as I texted the host (you can't call, only text) they offered me a refund. I decided to stay because I had brought my own tent and had traveled a little ways, and the loggers eventually went away at sunset. Unfortunately, after that, the dog parking and ATV revving began. Still, I was determined to stay - the sunset view had been great and I finally had solitude. Right before I was getting ready to get settled in my tent for the night, I read the review about the land not being the hosts', and as a solo female traveler, it freaked me out enough to pack up and leave. I don't think this site is being turned regularly, and I have no confirmation the person leasing it owns it.

As has been reported in previous reviews, the site is a fantastic location right on the Shenandoah River, but the amount of debris, old furniture and the like really detracted from the experience. The host was generous with free firewood, but clearing out the debris, and adding a proper picnic table and fire ring would make this a top location.
