Situated at the foot of the Blue Ridge Mountains and bordering the Jefferson National Forest, Thunder BRidge has scenic, large, private campsites in the woods for those who want to experience camping at its finest. Many of the sites border Elk Creek.

Our 100 acres was originally a camp built by the Civilian Conservation Corp in the "30s and early '40s, then a boys' juvenile detention center and Big Brothers'/Big Sisters' camp, which closed in 2009. The tent sites are in the forest, away from the buildings that were once the boys' camp and CCC camp, but you're free to walk around and check the buildings out. We'd like to share the camp with others and see it come back to life.

All within a short driving distance are the Natural Bridge, wineries, breweries, Natural Bridge Zoo, Safari Park, Dinosaur Kingdom, Appalachian Trail, Blue Ridge Parkway, James River, historic Lexington, Devil's Marbleyard, Glenwood Horse Trail, swimming holes, etc. Truly, there is something nearby for everyone. We'd be happy to give you recommendations of things to see and do.

We loved camping at Adam’s property! Probably one of the best camping experiences we have had. We were at Bear 1/site 11 and it was perfect, close to a very clean porta potty. Bathhouse was also very clean. Private site, great canopy coverage that kept us dry during the rain. Fire ring was great with a cooking grate. Definitely plan on returning. Adam was great, he gave us a tour and made sure we were good. He also gave us a tour of the property which was cool. All the camp sites had great tent pads, fire rings, etc. regardless of which one you pick you won’t be disappointed.

Really enjoyed our stay! Adam is a great host! Very accommodating and knowledgeable about the area. Campground was very clean and well kept. Bathhouse is by far the cleanest bathhouse I have ever been in! Campsites are spread out which makes for a more enjoyable camping experience. Look forward to coming back!

Adam was great, met us and showed us to our camp spot (Bunny 3). Conveniently near the bath house. The grounds are well maintained and fun to hike around with the dogs. Lots of old log cabins and little bits of history. The sites all have a gravel pad, fire ring and multiple picnic tables. Each site is unique from the next and there’s no feeling of being on top of each other even if the place was packed full. I’m starting to plan some bikepacking trips around Thunder BRidge. We would 100% come back!

Brought my 8 year old for his first camping experience. He was so excited to check out the buildings on the property as well. Have to say the hosts were super nice. Even took time out of their busy opening weekend to give my son a private tour. He loved it so much. Our campsite was perfect, close to the creek and not right top of neighbors. Bathrooms were clean. And again super nice and helpful hosts. Will be going here again!

New campground, soon to be the most popular! Well space out, private sight! Host and family so friendly and hard working. Had the main drain on ladies room clog up and they had a plumber out on a Sunday night and it was fixed and well cleaned within a couple your so that the ladies in group could take showers. They show that they will go above and beyond to have your stay be perfect! Thanks for opening this place up for us to enjoy on this amazing memorial day weekend!!!
