Heavily wooded acreage with goats, horses and donkeys. There is no light pollution and if there are no clouds you can see the stars very clearly. We have a ton of wild birds. Owls and Cara Cara are common. There are deer, feral hog and two resident packs of coyote. We also have ring tail cats, which are nocturnal and rare.
The best seasons are October 1st thru the end of April. It gets VERY hot and dry in the summer and can just be miserable.
We have a shared bathroom and an outdoor shower and tub. If you are a single woman or a family with children, we don't take other bookings while you are visiting the farm. You will have the place to yourselves. The only exception being my family and I, if we are working or staying over at the farm.
We should have a second bunkhouse up and running by fall of 2025.
If you are tent camping, you may camp anywhere on the property but there are certain spaces that may make curious horses your roomies.

1 night at Mockingbird Farms
It was a quiet and pleasant stay. We stayed in the 2 person bunkhouse which was very cozy. The farm had some very friendly horses, goats and donkeys that we could feed treats to.
The kitchen in the farmhouse was also well stocked with utensils, coffee, and seasonings.
The pool was very refreshing in the hot sun.
The host was also extremely helpful in calling us and providing all details and responding to our texts during the stay.

Weekend Trip to Mockingbird Farms
Where do we start? The Boo Radley Bunkhouse was absolutely perfect — the bed was comfortable, and the space was cute, cozy, and well-equipped. The outdoor shower (with hot water!!) was great. And the path from the bunkhouse to the bathroom was easy to follow, which was a plus since we showed up late at night and had to find our way around. Cait and her merry band of misfits (engaging family, escape artist goats, and other two- and four- legged friends) kept us frequently entertained, but also gave us space to enjoy our anniversary trip undisturbed. We got lucky with the weather and got to light a campfire and look at the stars, but I don't think hearing rain on the bunkhouse's tin roof would've been too bad either. We will definitely be back!!!
Highly recommend making the 45ish minute drive to Freidrich Wilderness Park as well — we saw/ heard several endangered birds, and the varied terrain (especially the Vista Loop) made for unexpectedly good hiking so close to San Antonio.

Weekend Trip to Mockingbird Farms
Mockingbird Farms is beautiful, safe, and serene. We had everything we needed in the bunkhouse for “glamping,” but I think tent camping here would also be a great experience. The farm has donkeys, horses, and goats — they are all super gentle and love people, and the host gave us animal crackers to feed them! Everything was very comfortable — plenty of hot water in the outdoor shower, AC unit in the bunkhouse, super comfortable bed. The host Cait was great to communicate with before the trip, and we got to visit with her for a bit on the property, she is so nice! Quick, easy access to the nearby towns (Somerset and Poteet) for meals and gas / dollar stores if you forgot to pack something. I believe this property would be very safe for solo campers, as well. I can’t recommend Mockingbird Farms enough — we’ll definitely be back!

The Boo Radley Bunkhouse is so lovely, you can't call it camping! I would classify the experience as glamping++. Cait was the ideal host and took time to familiarize me with the area and what to expect over the phone before I arrived. The property is absolutely beautiful with happy animals to eat all of the (approved) goodies you can feed them. I brought my dog and she had the time of her life watching the horses, goats, and donkeys and running free which is rare, as she is a city doggo. We both slept very, very well. The outdoor shower and bath are something everyone should experience, if they enjoy a touch of luxury with their bucolic experience, of course. I could have spent hours enjoying that space. Thank you for a fabulous and peaceful escape, Cait. I'll be spreading the word and can't wait for another trip to your farm!

Mockingbird Farm was the perfect adventure for our family! My little girls (4 and 18m) were delighted to feed and pet the friendly animals. The fire pit and circle made campfire cooking and lounging easy and fun, the charming cabin was cozy. Every convenience was taken care of to make this family trip easy and stress free. Cait was awesome and we had the place to ourselves. Wonderful memories were made and we can’t wait to go back!

Very precious place, in terms of animal and nature. The host is certainly one of the most considerate people. If you expect luxury glamping place, this may not be the type. But if you want to become part of nature in its native instinct, this shall be the right one. Surprisingly, the shower place is one of the coziest and beautifully designed using nature! Like Eden paradise. Will be back in strawberry season^^

Choke Canyon Campground
The hosts were awesome - super responsive! Location was great - just a minute walk to the river. 30 minutes to pretty much anything you’d want to see in Waco. We went to the Mammoth monument and it was worth it! The Homestead site (they have a weekly market) was fun and worth seeing but bring your credit card - everything there is super expensive. The campsite was quiet at night and felt adequately secluded during the day. Overall great camping site and I highly recommend it!

Camped here in early spring on a spur of the moment fishing trip. Found the park to be spacious, quiet and perfect for paddling and catching fish. No swimming... we did see a good sized gator sunning himself... ! but great for putting kayaks in. Our campsite had a shade shelter, table and fire ring, electricity and h2o. Didn't do much hiking, but we did walk the park at night and saw javelina, deer, wild turkeys, and lots of other critters. Watch out- Game wardens are present, and while fishing from the shore is fine w/out a license, you do need one while out on the lake ;) relaxing and quiet for sure.
