Welcome to Big Branch Apiary, a 50 acre honey and blueberry farm north of Lake Pontchartrain. We're bounded by the Big Branch Wildlife Reserve to the south and a Rails to Trails bike path on the north. We are 3 miles from Lacombe to the east, 4 miles from Mandeville to the west, about 3 miles from Fountainbleu State Park, and an hour from New Orleans. Most of the farm is a mix of hardwood forest and wetlands. Desert Bayou and East Branch Bayou meander across the property. The farm has deer, foxes, bobcats, owls, fireflies, otters, raccoons, turtles, and, well, about anything common to the wilds of the Gulf South. This includes a litany of snakes, mosquitoes, and deer flies in season. About 8 acres are used to raise poultry, bees and organically farmed blueberries. Overall, the land feels primordial and pristine. We are a designated Monarch Waystation and in the spring and fall see many migrating butterflies. We cultivate a lot of flowers so almost year round you can see butterflies in profusion. We are part of the USDAs Conservation Stewardship Program, concentrating on protecting and increasing habitat for animals and pollinators. Pets are welcome but please leash them. Campfires are allowed except on rare occasions. You can hunt for deadfalls in the woods on the farm, or we can provide firewood for a small fee. Our honey, fresh eggs, and homemade sourdough can be purchased as well. This is a rustic situation: think dry camping, outdoor (heated) shower, and outhouses. We have a tiny treehouse, an A-frame, a glamping tent, and several places to pitch a tent. The farm is pretty secure--someone is on-site most of the time, it's gated, and there are security cameras at access points. But it is a farm in a rural community--you may hear roosters crow, sheep bleat, dogs bark, and the sounds of owls, hawks, coyotes, and other native wildlife. If this sounds like it suits you then come stay and enjoy the farm life.

We're a non profit community garden in the Old Algiers neighborhood of New Orleans on the West Bank of the Mississippi River, a 15 minute drive or ferry ride to the French Quarter. We use the money from these bookings to fund the community food access work that we do. While you're here you can enjoy our peaceful and spacious garden property, and we encourage you to get to know some of the fantastic neighbors who use our community fridge and herb garden. Take the scenic Mississippi River Levee Path 1 mile to get to the Algiers Ferry dock which departs every 30 minutes and drops you off at the foot of Canal Street in the heart of New Orleans. If you have a car you can cross the bridge and get to most of the city in 15 minutes. You can also explore Algiers Point with its many restaurants, bars, local art and historic buildings. The levee trail is a block away, where you can jog, bike, or just watch the boats go by. Property amenities include an open air bathroom and shower, communal screened porch with seating area, propane grill and various pots/pans, cooking gear and tableware, fridge, picnic tables and a small fire pit. There is an herb garden out front and there may be fruits and vegetables available for you, fresh from the garden, depending on the time of year.

We are situated on the Mississippi River just 4 miles south of New Orleans, 7 miles of the French Quarter and 9 miles to the Jazz Fest, City Park and 10 miles to the Lake Front. There are bike lanes and routes to many points of interest, along with bus, taxi and uber/lyft We are also 22 miles from Delacroix Island and Hopedale where there are several charter services for those interested in a great fishing/hunting experience. Our property is quite, safe and rustic. We have a firepit and grills. There is running water, but no electricity or bathroom at present time. This property is great for tent camping or sprinter vans. We also are open to hosting BBQs/Seafood Boils, Live music, for small gatherings at additional charge. Good pets welcome. No aggressive animals allowed. Check in is 8am to 7pm. Quiet time is 10pm to 7am.

This cozy fenced-in spot provides a place to plug in your RV and stay in the Big Easy in a safe, tucked away side yard just minutes from the Bywater, Marigny and French Quarter and a few blocks from the Mississippi River. You can drive, bike, or Uber to hundreds of bars and restaurants in less than 15 minutes. Enjoy your morning coffee on the brick patio and feel free to use the fire pit (fall/winter only) and hammock! Please don't mind Poka, my old and gentle English Shepherd, who may wander around. The description says an acre because it is impossible to put in a smaller number, but the actual parking space is about 25 x 50 ft, with additional hangout space nearby. I am right next door (on the other side of the fence) if you need anything and can help navigate entering and setting up and give you a key to lock the gate with.

Stayed here with my motorhome for a few days around New Year’s. Gated grounds with cameras made it feel safe even though the surrounding neighborhood seems a bit rough. The park was clean, some nice from trains at night, and appeared well maintained. Easy access for RVs. Staff were very friendly and helpful, just what you need after a long day of driving. There is a bus stop nearby, which makes it fairly easy to get to the French Quarter and downtown without having to drive yourself. Overall, it is a reasonably priced and practical place to stay with a motorhome if you want secure parking and decent standards a short distance outside the city center.

Excellent experience camping at the farm. Cheri graciously greeted me at arrival to direct me to my spot. Drove past ducks, sheep, and thru a blueberry field to get to a secluded flat spot with three large oaks and a fire pit ready to burn. Toilets, showers, and a picnic table all available for use. Enjoyed a quiet night looking at the stars before natures alarm clock in the morning (roosters!). Very good experience!

Weekend Trip to Pelican Gardens

This piece of campsite in the midst of a gardeb is beautiful as well as comfortable. We camped with a hatch tent attached to our SUV and the campsite was big enough for it. Facilities are clean and you wake up to the sound of birds. Though Mark was not on site during our stay, he was super responsive and helped answer all our questions. Would definitely come back.

We really enjoyed our stay at Pelican Gardens! The gardens were beautiful and we felt very at home in our van. The area was safe and about a 25 minute walk to the ferry which was convenient for us. Being from MN, we loved the weather and the enclosed outdoor shower. Would highly recommend!

I loved my stay at Kat’s little oasis in such a prime location, she went above and beyond during my stay. I am grateful for the time we got to chat, I found her easy to talk to, appreciated her knowledge on the area, local insight and community mindset. Being at the 8 month mark of living in a camper, I can’t describe how incredible it was to have access to all the amenities! Not to mention, she has a dog- what more could you ask for? This was a mildly difficult space to get into as a truck and camper, granted- it was dark and I was by myself- but absolutely doable, and worth it.

Mark has cultivated a true gem of a space in Algier's Point. I stayed at the tent site for two weeks. It was most days only a 10 minute drive across the bridge for work in the NOLA CBD. I was surrounded by a living garden and it was fantastic. Mark is a lovely human, and it's reflected in his intentional community space. There was also a hot shower and a kitchen I could use. I could not have stumbled upon a better place to be. Thank you, Mark. I'll be back.

Great spot! The garden is beautyfull & peaceful, especially for being so close to everything. The shower was better than a lot of houses I've stayed in, so yay for that. Definitely a great experience. My favorite was hearing the boat horns & a marching band practicing at the coast guard campus nearby. Love being right on the levee/river.... Thnx!
