A Quiet Retreat in the West Virginia Mountains GORA is a place to slow down, breathe deeply, and reconnect with nature. Fifty-five acres in the Appalachian foothills of West Virginia — oak and maple, two quiet lakes, miles of trail. We didn't create any of this; it was already here, and our only job was to touch it lightly. Tucked away about two hours from Washington, D.C., GORA offers a few warm, thoughtfully placed cabins surrounded by forest, with plenty of privacy and room to simply be. Wake up among the trees, wander the trails, explore the lakes, or stay close to your cabin and enjoy the stillness. Each cabin is designed to feel cozy and inviting, with warm wood, soft lighting, a comfortable bed, and a hot shower waiting after a day outdoors. A banya at the door makes it easy to settle into a slower rhythm. Enjoy a banya before dinner, gather around a fire as the sun goes down, or sip your morning coffee while mist rises from the lake. When you're ready to explore beyond GORA, you'll find plenty nearby, including mineral baths dating back to 1776, Cacapon State Park, and Prospect Peak, where you can take in views stretching across three states. At GORA, there’s no need to rush. Come for the quiet, stay for the forest, and leave feeling rested.
