Situated at the foot of the Blue Ridge Mountains and bordering the Jefferson National Forest, Thunder BRidge has scenic, large, private tent sites and cabins in the woods for those who want to experience camping at its finest. Many of the sites border Elk Creek. Our RV sites are large, flat and at the edge of the forest in a well kept open green space. Our 100 acres was originally a camp built by the Civilian Conservation Corp in the "30s and early '40s, then a boys' juvenile detention center and Big Brothers'/Big Sisters' camp, which closed in 2009. The tent sites and cabins are in the forest, away from the buildings out front, but you're free to walk around and check out the historic site. We'd like to share the camp with others and see it come back to life. All within a short driving distance are the Natural Bridge, wineries, breweries, Natural Bridge Zoo, Safari Park, Dinosaur Kingdom, Appalachian Trail, Blue Ridge Parkway, James River, historic Lexington, Devil's Marbleyard, Glenwood Horse Trail, swimming holes, etc. We have river access 2 miles up the road if you'd like to fish or put your kayak or canoe in. Truly, there is something nearby for everyone. We'd be happy to give you recommendations of things to see and do.

Hidden Treasure
My husband and I happened upon Thunder BRidge 3 years ago while camping down the road while heading to Overland Expo East. Fast forward to this year and planning our first trip out, decided to return to see the progress. We were not disappointed. We’re set up in a way that we can camp with or without amenities. I had my eye on a tent site so I messaged Adam with our campers info, he felt we would have plenty of room. Adam was very accommodating as I messaged him while we were traveling and met us when we arrived. If you need firewood, no need to look for it, the bundle we bought from Adam wound up lasting us both evenings and it got pretty chilly at night. During stay we truly enjoyed learning the history and upcoming plans for this former CCC camp from Adam and James. There is already much to see and do, cannot wait to see the future growth! Definitely lots to explore at camp and in the area. Highly recommend!

RV Site 1
Our stay at Thunder BRidge was wonderful. Adam’s communication and hospitality was top notch. He responded instantly when/if needed via text. He also greeted us at the entrance and guided us to our (site 1) location. Our site was spacious, level and partial shaded. The grounds were peaceful and quiet as we were the only camper there at the time. The water/electric hookup was nice to have during our stay. It was a great location to explore the beautiful surrounding area. We would definitely stay again should we visit the area in the future!

RV Site 1
Nice setup on an old Conservation Corp site. Adam was very diligent on giving us directions including video to our specific site. RV 1 has water and electric, fire pit and picnic table. Unfortunately, we were not onsite during much of our 2 day stay, we were visiting friends down the road. Plenty to do around Natural Bridge and the James River is nearby. Enjoyed our visit.

Thunder Bridge Cabin 2 (Parcell)
We had a great stay in cabin 2. It was the perfect base camp for our weekend visit to the area where we visited Lexington, Natural Bridge State Park, and hiked on the AT. The hosts were very helpful with firewood requests, hiking guidance, pre-stay communication, and have created a wonderful camping facility. We are looking forward to our next stay.
