Sparrow Bend River Retreat

The campsite was absolutely beautiful! I loved having some of the everyday comforts, while getting the outdoor camping feel. It was nice not being too far from town as we did realize we forgot to bring some items. Overall loved this place and will return in the future.

We enjoyed the nice river. It was beautiful. But walking along the river got tiring since we are in our 70s. It would have been nice to have some benches down by the river. We would have stayed there longer if there were places to sit. Thank you. Fran Plumlee

We had such a wonderful time, whether we were on site, or on the lake, its was all so peaceful. And of course, they night sky was filled with so many stars, it was so beautiful to see, Would definitely book again!!!

This place rocks! Easy to get to, great space for tents and cooking and the kids loved the river. It safe and clean and allows the kids freedom to explore and play in a safe way! Communication and support was also exceptional. Will definitely come again!

The Best Little Camper in Texas

I absolutely loved this camper! Private location, very well stocked, and the little deck with the comfy furniture was perfect first thing in the morning. I have watched deer while sipping coffee, lazed on the couch under the umbrella enjoying a nice breeze, and cooled my feet in the river in the late morning. It was the relaxation I needed with just the right amount of space. Alright TLDR is over so here is the breakdown. Pros: ~VERY WELL STOCKED for the most part (dishes, tea pots, towels, washcloths, even a outside sink for room to wash dishes, ect.) ~ gas stove (just remember to turn it on) ~ fantastic distance from the river ~ beautiful views (especially nighttime for stargazing) ~ Comfy furniture! Legit wanted to nap outside in good breeze. ~ Privacy! I could only see one cabin unless I went to the main camp grounds. ~ Public area's are also well stocked and taken care of Cons: ~Only one pot to cook on. There was a griddle as well but I didn't test it. Absolutely would have grilled outside if there wasn't a burn ban. ~ The path to the restrooms wasn't well lit but you're out in nature get a headlamp. ~ One of the showers uses the hooked latch that kept slipping if the door was bumped. There was twine to help hold it in place but please someone get that fixed with a more secure latch.

Forest 2

We stayed at the Forest Site 2. It was very secluded and the perfect size for two tents. We really loved how much shade there was from the trees, yet we could still see the stars at night. It was an easy walk down to the river, which had clear, refreshing water. The bathrooms and showers were clean and well-kept, and the sink area nearby made it easy to wash up or fill water bottles. Everyone we met was very nice.

Great Birthday Stay!

We had such a lovely stay! The campsite had everything we needed — cookware, fridge, clean showers and bathrooms, and beautiful views all around. We arrived late at night during a storm, so a small light or sign would’ve made finding our way easier, and a wagon for our gear was not available as mentioned. Not taking any points off though — it’s a great, family and dog-friendly spot, and we can’t wait to come back for a longer stay with our dog next time!

First time ever camping, we loved it! Very clean restrooms and showers. The lake felt so amazing. We would hear a donkey very often in the middle of the night/early morning but was not a big a deal. We will be coming back again!

The camp sites were spaced out enough and private. Although it was a short walk to the bathroom and showers the 2 stalls were super clean with a tidy sink area with running water. The Medina river was crystal clear and the land kept very clean.

The Rv slots are farther away from the river than expected. The best spots are tents although I think some could have accommodated certain off grid rigs or camper vans. There are only two spots, and they are right next to each other ( in between a house and fence) You have to share a picnic table and the group fire pit/ with seating ( at the back of spot1) with the other rv spot. We were alone but I can imagine if others had bigger families. I would think it’s more accommodating to groups camping together. The description says septic but I was told there are none on the grounds. I had thought I had read it but couldn’t get page to pull up so I text to be sure and that’s when I was told no. We paid $20 to dump before we got there. When we got there, there were septic pipes there. That was a waste of our money. There was a lot of communication error that we lost time at camp because we were told check in was later ( for just an rv spot) because they assumed when asked we were talking about cabins. The grounds could use some landscaping. It has potential and the rv is beautiful so that was a plus. It wasn’t really what we were looking for, but many people seem to like what it has to offer so to each is own. I just didn’t feel it was worth $75/night ( had to book through Hipcamp so fees and taxes are included in that )

Great potential but horrible stay

Sparrow Bend River Retreat is in a beautiful location with easy river access and great potential. The restrooms were clean, and the showers were excellent — no complaints there. It’s clear the spot was designed with care, and at one point, it must have been something really special. Unfortunately, our experience didn’t match the setting. When you look closer, there’s trash scattered around the grounds — empty water bottles and vape materials here and there. Not ideal, but something we could overlook. The real issue was the construction directly across the river. It started shortly after we arrived and didn’t stop until 3:30 in the morning. They were running drills, circular saws, pneumatic hammers, and even blasting loud music throughout the night. It was so bad that I ended up sleeping in the car just to get away from the noise. We booked for two nights but left after one because none of us could rest. We tried reaching out to the host through the Hipcamp app but never heard back — only automated messages. At that point, we decided not to bother asking for a refund and just let karma do its thing. My family and I came here to escape and de-stress, but we left feeling even more drained. I hope the host and management can address the noise situation and clean up the property because it really is a beautiful spot with a lot of potential — it just wasn’t the peaceful retreat we were hoping for.

We had a wonderful two days of tent camping at Sparrow Bend! The property is beautiful and the facilities are excellent. We loved having clean bathrooms and showers. The best part was the pristine Medina River. We spend the hot days soaking and cooling off. It was awesome! We look forward to returning!

We had a fantastic stay! Beautiful scenery, River was perfect for swimming and fishing. There were others camping but did not feel crowded and was not loud. Clean, responsive, can’t wait to come back!

We loved staying at the Scamp’s at Sparrow Bend River. Everything went smoothly, and whenever we reached out, Angela was always there to help. The best part was the beauty of the landscape surrounding the property. Highly recommended!

Beautiful river side camping. Host were very quick to respond to a few hiccups we had and resolved the issues effectively. Loved hearing the wind chimes on the cliff side while kayaking in the early morning. Clean facilities and a hot shower! I super enjoyed the shower! Our campsite was clean and very large private area at camp #4. The water was clear and crisp. Not super deep but had spots that were deeper. I’m definitely going to camp here again!
