Highly recommend this retreat! Deb was a kind, generous host who accommodated our late arrival and immediately made us feel welcome. The property is secluded and feels very safe and peaceful. I would definitely stay here again!

Deb has a wonderful piece of property and is an incredible host! So peaceful and by the river. We were tent camping and bad weather rolled in so she offered that we could take shelter in the retreat’s big hall if needed. We decided to leave very early in the morning to avoid it instead, and only had one night. We are looking forward to being able to stay again some time and get to relax and enjoy the property a bit more and appreciate Deb’s hospitality!

Deb was a friendly and kind host. She took time to show us around and even offered that we could harvest from her abundance of herbs. We enjoyed the campsite for its privacy, great view, and were lucky to have a lovely breeze and basically zero bugs! What a treat! She was a true delight as is this space and I'm so grateful we could spend 2 nights here on our way to the Black Hills! 💕

I enjoyed camping on Deb camp site easy to find with Google maps I txt Deb when arrived Sunday and she answered right away and came down and introduced herself and told me where everything was witch was very helpful very quite and peaceful. I would recommend camping there

Camping, lodging, bathrooms/showers and plenty of space for communal gathering. We will make every effort to visit again.

What a gem! Only thing we regret is that we’re enroute to a family gathering, so pressed for time. Would definitely return for a longer stay! Pointers Ridge would be PERFECT for a family reunion. Deb shared the history of the camp- love love love that Deb and Peter have given it a new life. My kind of place rustic, arty with a twist of quirk! We arrived quite late- soooo appreciated being able to camp in the Main Hall…. Gully washer would have made for a very uncomfortable experience! Hot shower, great bathrooms!!!! For locals in the Sioux Falls area - this would be a great place for a small group weekend!

I loved staying at Deb's retreat on the Big Sioux River. The location is magical, the bathroom was very nice and had a good shower, there were herb-lined trails to enjoy contours and views of the land, and Deb was very friendly and gracious. I appreciated having a site along the river that felt private and peaceful.

Deb was an amazing host! I had planned to use the tent site, but with a big storm it was too muddy and Deb offered me a stay in the Main Hall, which was very cozy! Though I ended up staying in my van, it was amazing to relax with the selection of puzzles and books, and the radio indoors during the drizzle. The river and walk around the property is gorgeous, and the swings, screened porch, and gardens are all wonderful additions! What an amazing retreat Deb and her family have put together for creatives. I wish I could have stayed longer to enjoy cooking a meal in the well supplied kitchen and to have a gathering of my own. Maybe someday! Be prepared for the gravel road to the retreat, but unless it's raining hard most vehicles should be okay. Deb was a most gracious host, she greeted me and gave a very thorough tour of all the amenities. My stay could not have been better, thank you Deb!

Deb was easy to communicate with, and the campsite is private while also close to a building that houses a kitchen as well as flush toilets and showers, really a great amenity particularly if the weather is iffy. Deb contacted us on our arrival day to say that she had a cabin available if we wanted to use it, as it had been raining for two days and looked like it would continue. So thoughtful and generous of her! I recommend this camp, it is convenient to Sioux City and I-90, but not too close, it is very quiet here.

We had a beautiful camp site by the river. The hospitality from both Deb and Peter was wonderful. My brother and I wished we could have stayed longer. I HIGHLY recommend this campground and our amazing hosts. If we ever get back to Sioux Falls we will definitely stay at this campground.

A lovely spot on the river. Lots of bugs- but that’s nature. A gorgeous property with lots of color and art. The best part for us was the main hall that has wifi, bathrooms, and a place to hide from the thunderstorms that drifted through. Deb even invited my dog, Roxy, in. Because of this space, our first night camping together was successful. We’d definitely return if ever in the area.

We loved staying at Deb's property. The camping area was spacious and very private. Deb was incredibly welcoming and a great host! She even provided a fire starter for us at the campsite. The view of the river was beautiful and the amenities were great (bathrooms with showers, full kitchen, a screened in "porch" with fans). The area also very dog friendly--even in the main hall with the bathrooms--so we didn't have to leave our dog alone in the tent. Highly recommend a night or more here!

Easy check in and easy to use the facilities. The campsite has a nice view. The owls hooting all night was a bonus. Deb and Peter popped by in the rain to say hi and check that we were all settled. Would definitely stay longer if we ever are this way again.

Deb and Peter, have something special here. Off the beaten path, but very close to I-90. Easy to find. Artist Retreat with campsite next to the Big Sioux River. This couple epitomizes what Hipcamp is meant to be. The hospitality was exceptional! Easy place to kick back. We are definitely coming back.

This is a beautiful spot - both the Retreat overall and the specific campsite. We were here only one night as we travelled cross country but loved the presence of the river, the big grass field (good for the dog!), and the access to the communal bathroom/shower, screened porch, and commercial kitchen. Deb welcomed us shortly after we arrived and proved a friendly and generous host. Only downside - which was nothing in Deb’s control! - were the mosquitoes

This place is so cute. We were in town for a convention and we're so excited to find an inexpensive, secluded and beautiful spot not far from the city. Deb and her sister were welcoming and accommodating. We loved the peace and quiet at night.

Big Sioux River Retreat
This is a lovely off the beaten path location. The site is primarily used for small cabin rentals and artist retreats but there is plenty of space for campers. The common room/building was a lot like a church basement set up. There was a large kitchen area, multiple tables to sit at in a big open room, a piano, women's and mens restrooms with showers, garbage and recycling. There was a screened house for outdoor evening activities if you want to get away from mosquitoes etc. A swift flowing river abuts the property and is fun to watch especially when the purple martins are doing their acrobatics above it. It is amidst farm country and is very quiet. Our stay was short but very enjoyable. I would highly recommend it.

Wow! I can't say enough about my week-long camping experience at Big Sioux River Retreat! I came here looking for some quiet time to work on craft projects and rest in nature. It was one of my most relaxing places to visit in years. I was greeted warmly by Deb and Peter my first night. They offered me a tour of the retreat and we spent an hour or so just chatting into the evening. The facilities onsite were awesome. The bathrooms and shower were perfect. I even had access to a full kitchen in the Main Hall. More importantly, Deb offered me access to a screened porch building where I spent most of my time working on my projects. When I wasn't there, I sat down by my campsite on a sandy beach overlooking the Sioux River and just enjoyed all the nature I could. I highly recommend anyone to come and experience this peaceful little retreat and enjoy the friendship of Deb and Peter. I'll be back next year!
