Calling all nature enthusiasts seeking a serene Black Hills escape! Immerse yourself in the beauty of this stunning 10+ acre property, bordering the National Forest and the renowned Mickelson Trail. Perfect for those comfortable in tents, hammocks, cars, popups, or small RVs (please note: no medium/large campers or generators to maintain the area's natural tranquility), you can step directly from your campsite onto miles of trails ideal for hiking and biking or explore off trail in the adjacent Black Hills National Forest. Explore north on the Mickelson Trail to discover Crazy Horse and Hill City, or head south towards Edgemont. A convenient spur trail also connects you westward to the wonders of Custer State Park. For a more relaxed pace, unwind by the peaceful pond and observe the local wildlife. While families with children who appreciate the quiet beauty of nature are welcome, this is not a site for parties or loud music. This is a primitive camping experience, so please bring your own drinking water. A shared outhouse with a bucket toilet is available for guest use, but there are better bathrooms in town! Plus, downtown Custer with its fantastic restaurants is less than a mile away via the Mickelson Trail! We kindly request that guests respect the peaceful environment and refrain from loud music or disruptive behavior. You'll be on one of the most beautiful sections of the George S. Mickelson Trail in minutes, ready to hike or bike the stunning Black Hills, just by following a short trail to a private access gate! Walk or ride north to Crazy Horse or south to downtown Custer (only about 1.5 miles). This private site is designed for relaxation and convenience, offering: Spacious 23' Bell Tent: Unwind in our large White Duck Avalon Bell Tent, ideal for comfortable sleeping or simply a cozy place to hang out and relax. There are two comfortable, weatherproof sleeping pads available. Family-Friendly Seating: Children can gather around the kids' picnic table while adults enjoy meals and conversation at the metal outdoor table with cushioned chairs, seating for four. Easy Outhouse Access: A shared outhouse with a bucket toilet is conveniently located nearby for your comfort. Private Parking: A flat parking area can accommodate an SUV with a popup camper or up to five cars. Enjoy the Pond: This property is home to one of the few ponds on the Mickelson Trail, making it even more beautiful and unique. A canoe and a few canoes are available for guest use and the pond is a great place to cool off on a warm day. You will hear the many red-winged blackbirds that nest at the pond and, if you're lucky, you'll see one of the turtles. Future Excitement: We're currently building an outdoor kitchen and picnic shelter just behind this site, enhancing future stays at The Aspen Grove! Construction is ongoing and we may be there during the day, but not before 9:00 am or after 5:00 pm.

Aspen Grove Campsite at The Pond
Nora’s site is very secluded and beautiful. We were only there overnight so we couldn’t enjoy the firepit, but it is a great place to be. Close to town for the necessities, but isolated enough to allow you to enjoy the natural beauty. I’d recommend an SUV, truck, or something you’re comfortable with a fairly steep incline in for the trail in, but we had no trouble with our Ford Transit van. Enjoy this site!

Aspen Grove Campsite at The Pond
Another great stay. We just find more to love about this property each time we visit: walk to downtown, enjoy wildlife sightings, listen to the aspen leaves. Highly recommend.

Wow! Lots of improvements since the last time we were here! They've got solar lighting on the tent and the outdoor kitchen, a more sophisticated bathroom set up, and lots of tables/pots/pans/cooking supplies available for use. We will be back!

Aspen Grove Campsite at The Pond
The host was very helpful and communicative in providing information about the site and answering questions. The land was beautiful and we had plenty of space to set up camp and hang out. Host set up a large group tent that we could hang out in, and the chairs and table were a bonus as well. Would absolutely stay again!

Aspen Grove Campsite at The Pond
Our stay at The Pond during Pumpfest was fantastic! The beautiful setting offered a perfect blend of remote feel and convenient access to downtown for the 20 or so campers. The aspen grove provided shady, flat spaces for tents and hammocks, plus level parking for cars and camper vans. Climbers loved the nearby granite outcroppings. The large firepit with free firewood was a huge bonus, making our evenings even more enjoyable. They are even putting up an outdoor kitchen, which will be great when it is finished. Highly recommend for a beautiful, convenient, and unique camping experience in the Black Hills!
