Lois and Mike's spot was just as described!!!! The view is gorgeous! We couldn't believe how big the spot was, and we had it all to ourselves! The sunsets were beautiful and the star gazing was incredible. We had a clear night both nights and the stars were all out!!! We are already trying to plan another trip. You will not be disappointed with this site!!!!

The Rocky Knoll is a beautiful little spot with an amazing view! Easy to access with additional seating provided, a lovely fire pit, and a well leveled tent pad. My dogs and I had a great time and the hosts were amazing! My battery ended up dying in my car the second night and they quickly helped me resolve the issue. I can’t wait to go back when it gets warm again. Thank you both so much!

Excellent site! The view is very nice, it's laid out well. They have a lot of accommodations there that were nice to see for people that come less-prepared. the view is very nice and it is a nice cozy place! The "poop shed" is also, really nice. It's not just a port-a-john, they put proper care and attention into making it enjoyable to use! Will almost certainly be booking again in the future!

If this spot is available, stop reading and go book now! My partner and I camped here in October with our two dogs and had a great stay! Lois and Mike have thought of everything.
The site is easy to find in the dark and the road is well maintained. The tent area is level and there is ample seating. They supplied tons of firewood as well as a grate/hot dog stick for cooking over the fire. We really appreciated they also left a shovel/water to ensure fires are fully put out. The site is really private and the views are awesome. The only downside was a bit of animal noise at night (dogs, owls, and maybe a donkey) - our reactive dog struggled a bit at first but way less than at other sites we've stayed. We didn't use the poop shed but peaked our heads in and it was immaculately clean.
It's about 25 minutes to Hanging Rock and Pilot Mountain State Parks. Buffalo Creek Farm nearby has great ice cream! Highly recommend!

This place is great!! Set up very thoughtfully. Tons of firewood available and the directions were easy. Having a landmark next to the site was great for after dusk driving in. The views are the best part of the site. We did both state parks which were close, and even stopped at a taphouse and an ice cream shop on the Main Street. As mentioned in the host notes and other reviews, there are a few bugs (harmless spiders and ants) and we got a late night visitor while in the tent, likely a larger deer or buck. Just ensure your belongings/snacks are safe. Nearby properties had dogs but I slept through after all the hiking! I would highly recommend this site.

Beautiful place and lots of great white oaks surrounding you. Good and breezy and had tables and good amount of fire wood. Though a neighbor did drive up on a 4 wheeler and hung around for a bit

Our campsite was absolutely beautiful — the views of Hanging Rock from our site were priceless. We caught both sunrise and sunset right from our spot, and each was stunning.
There was plenty of space to spread out, and the amenities were perfect: firewood provided, picnic tables, chairs, a few jugs of water for washing hands and dishes, and a great fire pit with a grate. The trees were perfectly situated for multiple hammocks, which made for the ultimate relaxation setup. The site was close to tons of hiking trails, and the natural sounds — birds, frogs, and crickets — just added to the vibe. Exactly what you’d expect (and hope for!) in a true outdoor setting. We loved our stay and can’t wait to return!

It was a beautiful scenic spot, very private but not isolate to where you were would be concerned with any dangerous wildlife. We heard a train passing by the nearby mountain at midnight and we thought that was pretty cool! Wonderful place would stay again and plan to !

Loved the excluded feel with an amazing view! Several things I’d like to point out: easy directions to follow and find. Loved the cleanliness of the port-a-john and what they supplied inside, including a light! Loved the painted rocks with little reminders/sayings on them as well as the figurines. Loved the seating arrangements and the sandy pad for the tent. Having a circle drive to get in and out was very smart, too! The access to firewood was a relief so that I didn’t have to bring several bundles that take up a lot of room during travel. Overall, the view. Wow. Beautiful sunset and sunrise! I will return!

This was my first time using Hipcamp and this experience exceeded my expectations! The site is secluded and I did not see another person my entire stay. It’s located in a small town, not much there but exactly what I wanted. I had cell signal and a gas station and store is a little over a mile away. Absolutely stunning views!! I will return!

We loved the Rocky Knoll campsite! It was such a good place to relax. They have a couple picnic tables, benches, and a really nice campfire area. The tent pad was great and well maintained. The view from the rocking bench was very nice! Everything was very relaxing! We will definitely come back whenever we’re looking for a more secluded camp spot close by! Our dog approved too! ( :

A great spot for a quick get away. The view is beautiful, and the campground in great condition. The trees are perfect for hanging your hammock, and the fire pit is perfectly placed. I appreciated the extras at the site, like the grill ring to place over the fire pit, non potable water, and the shovel - and the poop shed!
The only negative I have is something that cannot be changed. You must remember that you are not in the wilderness. The site is elevated and has a great view of the valley below. A valley full of people who are living their lives....noisily. We knew it would not be a quiet get away, but the non stop sounds of human life was a bit more than I expectd, even after reading the other reviews. Bring some ear plugs if you are a light sleeper, and you will be all set!
Overall, this is well worth a visit! We will remember this spot for the next time we want to camp without driving hours to get there.

This site has an absolutely stunning view and is quite accommodating given the isolation. We enjoyed the ample space and privacy. It’s very convenient to any hiking or fishing sites as well and would definitely recommend us to anyone looking for a quiet getaway.

Great spot! The campsite was well kept and had a lot to offer for a comfortable stay. The view of the mountains from the campsite was an instant relaxation point. Very close to a lot of hikes and towns. Would definitely recommend.

Great spot for a quick camping trip with great views and sunset! There is a leveled pad for a tent. And enough flat places to put another tent and park a truck with wedge camper. Definitely a cool local spot that is secluded.

The Rocky Knoll
The Rocky Knoll is a home away from home. It offers unmatched privacy, besides the occasional sounds from neighbors, it feels like no one else is around. The VIEW. I spent hours sitting and enjoying the sounds of nature and the gorgeous mountain view. You will not want to miss the sunsets here, they are spectacular. The space is very well cared for, you can tell the hosts take great care and pride in their spot. Overall, the Rocky Knoll feels like your own private sanctuary to release the stress of everyday life. I feel rejuvenated every time I leave. Be sure to check out Hanging Rock state park too! The waterfalls are just wonderful.

Stayed two nights in my overlander trailer. Good location for a base camp to day hike Hanging Rock S.P. and Pilot Mountain. Reasonably close to Winston-Salem. Everything in HipCamp description is accurate. Good, flat, pull through area to park rig and nice, flat, large pad for one large tent. Probably tight to make turns for larger RV. All clean and orderly. Nice long-distance views. Good amenities (as described) -- plenty of room, fire pit and wood, two picnic tables, etc. "Poop shed" is just that (a shell of a porta john) but IS NOT a privy or outhouse. Some very minor road noise and farm animals, but not bothersome at all. I will definitely stay again for the purposes of my visit.
