North of Marion, NC and just south of Linville, TangleWood Creekside Campsites offers something for everyone: primitive campsites, Safari Tents, a Little Log Cabin and a Tiny House with a wood-fired hot tub. 95% of our wooded sites are situated immediately beside a clear mountain stream and all are just minutes from the regions most famous local attractions for sightseeing and outdoor activities. The following are but a few of our favorite things to do within a short drive: visit Linville Falls, Caverns, Gorge and/or Winery; cruise the Blue Ridge parkway; pick apples at the Orchard at Altapss; tube/kayak down the Catawba river; hike beautiful Tom’s Creek Falls or Crabtree Falls; cross Grandfather Mountains mile high bridge and explore the nearby towns of Spruce Pines or Little Switzerland. The scenic drives to Asheville, Blowing Rock, Banner Elk, Sugar and Beech mountains make them each wonderful day-trip destinations as well. We are happy to supply a comprehensive list upon request (including distance, drive time and links with directions) but there is also plenty of exploring to do right at here on site where nature lovers and wildlife enthusiasts are encouraged to explore, on foot or mountain-bike, anywhere within our 170 acres (or the adjoining 250 acres owned by the US Forestry Service off our North Western border) and are likely to catch glimpses of turkey, beaver, deer, fox, eastern box turtle and the many species of songbird and raptor.

Pebble Beach tent site has exactly what the name implies, a big expanse of pebbly creek beach. The site is large and can accommodate 2-3 M-L tents. It is furnished with a steel fire-ring with a cooking grate and large picnic table. With its beach, private swimming hole and distance away from other sites, we think it makes up for being in slightly closer proximity to Peppers Creek rd. which is good bit higher, and not heavily travelled, but that you could hear on occasion if a particularly noisy vehicle happens to pass. *Close walk to new climate controlled bath house (see pic) *Potable water available near campground entrance.

This location now boasts a brand new Safari tent oriented to enjoy the gorgeously long downstream view of the creek that made 'Shady Creek View' our most popular primitive site. The tent is furnished with two twin beds, a table and two chairs and a banquet providing counter space, storage, a Keurig coffee maker with accoutrement and a single charge generator sufficient for powering it, charging mobile phones/tablets and running a fan or heater. The Little Log Cabin at TangleWood is a new Log Cabin park-model RV with decks in front and back, situated in fairly close proximity to the creek. It is a truly charming space consisting of two bedrooms (Queen and Twin Bunks), a full bathroom, and fully outfitted kitchen including dishes and cookware, refrigerator/freezer, microwave, oven and range. Sheets and towels are provided. This is the perfect place for the in-laws to stay while the family camps at Shady Creek View Safari Tent or the Creekside Safari tent (the Cabins closest neighbors).

Boasting two decks overlooking the creek and an option to use the wood-fired, fresh-water hot-tub*; the Creekside Tiny House at Tanglewood is perfect for a romantic get away or small family. Sleeping quarters include a loft with a King bed and a Twin Berth (with pocket door) sleeping 3 adults comfortably. There is a tiny but full bathroom and a kitchenette with a Keurig coffee-maker, microwave, toaster, convection hotplate, and small fridge/freezer. The house is cozy but if you’re like us, you will spend most of your time outside: cooking steaks on the charcoal grill; tending the hot tub in preparation for an evening soak; staring at the campfire from one of four comfy adirondacks; or sipping morning coffee in a glider overlooking the creek. Come see why, with the great outdoors, you only need a tiny house 😊 *HOT TUB: Requires a signed safety waiver from the renter to be made available and is WONDERFUL but be aware, it takes 6+/- hours to heat and will use a considerable amount of wood! We provide 1 bundle and a small starter log to get you started but if you plan to build a fire in the fire-pit AND heat the tub you could potentially go thru many times that much wood so plan accordingly and either bring more with you or it can be purchased from the campground (see 'extras' when checking out) for $10/bundle and be left waiting at the house. **Some aspects of the Tiny house- loft access, bathroom- may not be as comfortable for individuals of significantly larger than average stature. If you are 6’5” you may not be as charmed by the dimensions of the space as some others 😬 ***All waste water from inside the Tiny House flows to a black water tank that is emptied regularly. Please do not allow sinks or showers to run unnecessarily as EXCESSIVE use over average could result in a back up. This has never happened, the tank is huge but theoretically its possible so please conserve tank space :)

Pebble Beach site, great experience

We camped in the Pebble Beach site and had a great experience. The site is huge and bordered by a small stream, where we watched a beaver feeding, apparently unconcerned about our presence. The bathhouse was very new, kept clean, and supplied with hot water for the showers (each bathroom is completely private). We also enjoyed the swimming hole, just upstream of the campsite ("swimming hole" is a generous description, but it's deep enough to sit in up to your neck). The only downsides were minor: the shower water smells just slightly of sulfur, there's a bit of traffic noise from the nearby road, no cellular signal at all (on my carrier, anyway), and the security measures seem like overkill (combination lock on the gate, a different combination for the bathrooms). Some might not consider those last two drawbacks. We never met the host, but he was friendly and accommodating in the Hipcamp chats. He even refunded the cost of the firewood we bought but didn't use. I didn't expect or ask for a refund, just told him we hadn't used it, and he offered. We went for this private campground because the nearby state park and national park campgrounds were all either full or closed, but we would definitely stay there again.

Hilltop Safari Tent

Thoroughly enjoyed our stay! Only one night, but it was perfect! Rained during our stay, but we stayed dry in the tent. Was not damp at all either, which we had an issue with at other places we stayed. Sealed doors kept the mosquitoes out. Porch allowed us to enjoy some outside time without getting wet. Our dogs seemed to enjoy it, as well. Felt very private. Host instructions and communication were great. New bathhouse was AMAZING! Wish we could have stayed longer. Highly recommend; would happily stay again if in the area!

Hemlock Ledge Safari Tent

Hemlock was just what we needed for our night away from the city. It rained the whole night and it was so nice having the mesh “windows” open for natures own sound machine. The other tents are closer than I was expecting and the fire pits are set up so we didn’t see them much. The road is also pretty close so be prepared for some traffic noises. Bath house was super clean and it’s an easy walk (maybe 10 min) from the site (porta potty set up close by for quick trips). Will definitely keep it in mind for future trips!

Can’t recommend this place enough. It’s clean, quiet and the creek coursing through it is perfect. The bathhouse is unexpectedly modern and there’s a wide range of different sites within the camp to suit your taste. Blair was communicative and his directions were clear. Jason, the groundskeeper, was at our site when we arrived. Super friendly. Mentioned that he dropped off a little handmade kid picnic table for our kids which they loved and ate dinner and breakfast at. We stayed at Sycamore Bend. The only minor downsides are that it’s right across the drive to the bathhouse which was not an issue since the camp wasn’t full but I could see how it may be a little intrusive if people are constantly pulling up and using the bathrooms; also, some of the sites a little close to the main road, so you can hear cars driving by. Not a big deal but it does take you out of the moment.

Shady Creek View Safari Tent

I loved the Shady Creek View safari tent! Perfect for two people. The view and access to the creek was perfect, my kids loved getting in and playing every day. It was very convenient to have a small generator and coffee maker in the tent. I loved sipping coffee on the front porch in the mornings. The site is indeed very shady as the name suggests, which is great for a hot day! However that means that the tent is very dark also, especially when overcast/rainy. Just make sure to bring plenty of lamps to brighten up the space! The *only* downside to me was that it is pretty far from the bathrooms. However, the bathrooms were very new and so clean! Just be prepared to walk for a while to get to them. We liked the space so much that we extended our trip an extra day. Would definitely love to come back some time!

Creekside Safari Tent

What a charming and lovely spot! We spent four days at the Creekside Safari Tent, and could’ve spent more. The beds were surprisingly comfortable, the shelving/storage was super helpful, and the deck and chairs got tons of use. The new bathhouse felt luxurious and was only a pleasant stroll away. Short drives to Marion (adorable!) and fantastic hikes (Catawba Falls!), would recommend to anyone who appreciates the safari tent experience.

Our stay at Sycamore Bend was everything we could have hoped for and more. We had such a wonderful experience that we're already talking about when we can come back. The setting is absolutely beautiful, but the creek is what truly makes this place special. Falling asleep each night to the peaceful sound of the water was incredibly relaxing. During the day, it was the perfect place to cool off from the summer heat, and we had so much fun exploring the creek, looking for tiny fish, salamanders, and all the little creatures that make it feel so alive. In the evenings, the fireflies put on an incredible show—it felt like something out of a storybook. We loved cooking dinner over the campfire, and it was such a nice touch to have our firewood waiting for us when we arrived. It made settling in so easy and let us start enjoying the campsite right away. The bathhouse deserves its own mention—it was exceptionally clean, modern, and honestly one of the nicest campground bathhouses we've ever used. If having easy access to the bathhouse is important to you, Sycamore Bend is the perfect site. One of my favorite things about this campground is that it made it easy to camp with a group of friends who all have different camping styles. Some of us love sleeping in tents, while others prefer a few more comforts. Having the glamping tents and cabin available meant everyone could enjoy the weekend together without anyone feeling out of their element. It's such a thoughtful setup for groups

We loved camping at Tanglewood because it was quiet with a creek. It was such an escape from our regular routine. The whole campground was clean and organized. The bathhouse was pristine. It is like using a home bathroom with a new toilet and a full shower with a big mirror and fine sink. There are floor mats with a clean floor. There are plenty of outhouses for bathroom use that is closer to your campsite. These were each clean and tidy as well. As a plus we saw many butterflies in our July visit. The fire pits are well organized to be able to cook on them with a rotating grill plate that will twist onto the fire or off the fire. This is a great idea if you are looking to cook over the fire with some convenience of a grill experience. The last thing I will mention is the ability to camp with more of a rustic style or a glamping style. There are tent sites, prefabricated canvas tent cabins, and also tiny homes to camp on as well. Almost all the sites have access to the creek. Don’t miss out this opportunity to have a splendid time in nature. This is the place you want to camp!

Had a wonderful time at the Beaver Den campsite. Its not directly on thr creek like many other sites, but it larger and nearly 100% shaded. They are doing a nice job with improvements, so i expect this place to only get better. Quiet, secure, and well kept. Highly recommend!

Pebble Beach

This campground is amazing! We got a spot at the end of the road so we were completely isolated. We enjoyed splashing in the creek, the nightly firefly visits, and seeing the turkeys running around. There are trails that take you across the acres of land in the woods, too. The bathhouse is the most modern and well kept we've ever seen at a campground and it's not even finished yet. No cell service, which is what we wanted, and beautiful bird song all through the night. A new favorite!

If you’re looking for peace and quiet, this is it! The campsites were clean and private, with a lovely creek bubbling past many of them. The bath house was amazing! Clean, cool, and totally private. Other options for camping included a tiny house, a cabin, and safari tents. I highly recommend Tanglewood Creekside!

My son is in a wheelchair and I reached out ahead if time to see what site would be best for our needs and Blair was fast with responding and getting us into a site that would work for our family. We were in site Daffodil banks. We did see that pebble Beach is also flat and easier to access the creek in wheels. Camp site was clean and private. Great family rustic camping!

I have mixed feelings about our stay. While the campsite was exactly as described we were extremely dissatisfying with the closeness of the campsite next to ours. We chose the 4 wheel drive more secluded area. The other campers were a large group with young crying children. They also didn’t seam to bring or buy wood so they would spend hours scouring the property looking for wood to haul back to their campsite then proceeded to spend hours chopping it up. Needless to say they were not the best neighbors. There is also a train close enough by that you can hear the horn through the night and a dog that lives nearby that barked a lot. Friday night was the loudest with lots of gunshots being heard and we had no idea from where. . For the positive the new bathhouse was immaculate and we enjoyed being able to shower. The host was fantastic and communication was great. The camp ground is clean and has portable restrooms set up throughout. Definitely family and pet friendly. I would stay again if we wanted to camp in a bigger family group. I would look elsewhere if we are wanting more seclusion
