Starlight Hills

We absolutely loved our stay here! We came for my daughter’s 7th birthday, and it ended up being exactly the kind of experience I was hoping to give her and her brother. The property is beautiful, peaceful, and tucked away enough that you genuinely feel like you’re getting away from everything. The dome itself was awesome and made camping with kids feel like an adventure without giving up all the comforts that make a trip enjoyable. Everything was well thought out, and the outdoor area was just as much fun as the dome. The kids especially loved the hammocks and having room to explore, play, and just enjoy being outside. What I probably appreciated most was seeing how excited the kids were about the whole experience. Sometimes you plan a birthday trip hoping the kids will remember it, and this is definitely one of those trips I think they will. We were able to cook, hang out together, enjoy the property, and slow down for a little while without needing a bunch of other entertainment. The pictures really don't capture how neat the setting is once you're actually there. It felt private, relaxing, and genuinely different from just staying in a hotel or regular cabin. William has created a really special place, and I would absolutely recommend it to families, couples, or anyone wanting a unique little getaway. We made some great memories here and would happily come back again.

We really enjoyed the dome. It was spacious, comfortable and pretty cool. The AC unit was a game changer, since it was in the 90s during our visit (we definitely would have left early without that little bit of reprieve). Our 4 kids were very comfortable, either sleeping on the couch bed or on the floor, and the queen bed was surprisingly comfortable for the adults. The entire area looks like it’s continually being added to and improved, so you can tell the owners care about making the campground a nice space.

Very cozy and centralized space that doesn’t trade for privacy. Probably the best site out of the whole campsite given its immediate views to the landscape without having to walk anywhere, very bc lose proximity to the social area with grills, and enough of a standoff distance from other campsites for privacy. Would recommend to anyone to stay there. The host was super responsive and helpful throughout the stay as well.

Site 4 - Starlight Hills Campground

Beautiful campsite! Easy to reach and navigate, and the pitches are spacious and private. Lots of amenities, too. Unfortunately the weather wasn’t great so I didn’t get to hang out much, but I’ll be back!

The sunsets were spectacular!

We had the best time here! It was a little warm in the tent during the day in August but who stays in the tent in the middle of the day?!? Everything was perfect and they thought of so many details to make your stay memorable! We paid the extra fee to use the spa and it was perfect well worth the experience! They’ve really put in a lot of time and effort into building this campsite and we truly enjoyed it!

Site 1 - Starlight Hills Campground

Campsite was decent with a pretty good view, but even though it was lit up and had a fan there was no plug in. I parked by the site, but it was tough and my car barely fit through a couple trees. Also, it said there was a bathroom and showers nearby, but they are not ready yet. However, it looks like they're working on the place so in the future it could be really nice.

This is a nice, clean campsite that is great for a weekend jaunt. Directions to the property were clear and the host was responsive. Camp site 1 has ample room for at least 3 small to medium tents. I timed my visit with a meteor shower, but alas, the stars were not aligned for good viewing that night! Site one is in the trees so did not have good star viewing, but I did get a good viewing of the sunset from the grill area! This area had lots of seating and open space. I appreciated the path lights on the way back down to my campsite because I can get lost in a straight line. Next time I want to see the stars I will spring for one of the yurts or the geodesic domes as these have much nicer viewing areas and are really where it's at. These sites had fewer mosquitos as well. The trail on the site was OK as far as hiking goes. I did enjoyed seeing wildlife such as wildflowers, deer and tons of types of fungi on the trail. I would recommend the yurt campsites to friends.

Favorite Campsite in NC

Starlight Hills is absolutely incredible. I have stayed in the yurts and have also camped in a primal spot, no matter what option, a great time is always had. I stayed in a yurt this past trip, it was absolutely down pouring rain, not a single drop of water got into the yurt.

Car/ Camper 4

Beautiful campground! My favorite part was how private the sites were. We stayed in our small teardrop camper in Car Site 4. The viewpoint with the BBQ and tables a very short walk away where we laid on the hammocks and watched the sun go down. There are two trails--the overlook trail in particular was beautiful!!! The outdoor showers were hot, super clean, and how lovely it is to shower outside. I didn't expect the vending machines, it was a nice touch!!! It's close to South Mountain State Park if you want some longer hikes very close by. The glamping sites were beautiful even though we didnt stay in there. We also were able to have the dogs off leash for the most part and they LOVED it. Will return. Lots of love put into this campground and can't wait to see it continue to evolve.

It was a beautiful and peaceful place. Well maintained and clean. Although our bell tent had no electricity, as expected, it was very convenient to have the ability to charge our phones inside the tent, indoor lights and the fan!

Hammock Bliss!

MTG 2

Very quiet and relaxing! Laying in the hammock at the top of the hill by the grilling area first thing in the morning, overlooking the mountains, was absolute bliss! Bring your own towels, charcoal lighter fluid, food for grilling, and mosquito spray.

Get out and enjoy yourself!

I loved every minute of this camping trip. I would come back any day. We stayed at MTG1 one night and MTG3 one night and we loved it, they both had great views but different feel to it.

Site 8 review: I was not especially impressed this particular site. It's very, very rocky and tons of roots all over it. So many ways to trip on something. Limited areas to put up a tent compared to sites 7 and 9. Does have decent privacy and I like how far in the trees it is, providing a lot of shade. One big negative I experienced was that it rained twice and the second time it really poured! So much so, it flooded the only area my tent could fit and got water in it and we had to leave early. As a whole, I see lots of potential in the camp ground, but so much is in the works. It has good views, especially the sunset, working showers (didn't use them though) Porta potties for toilets, filtered water area, which is nice, and some trails. Not high enough elevation for summer camping in my opinion, so if I'm back, it'll be in cooler months.

We stayed at MTG 1 and it was an awesome camping spot with great views. The atmosphere of meeting other campers at the common area made for a great night! The site was clean and well-maintained, and it was easy to find. Perfect spot for anyone looking to unplug and enjoy nature while still getting to connect with a friendly camping community. We’d definitely stay here again and would recommend it to other campers!”

First Time Seeing Mountains!!

Definitely would recommend for fall camping. Loved the cabin we were in. The view of the mountains in the mornings was beautiful. Very clean showers and restrooms. A variety of camping styles on site. Spa was very cute and relaxing and also included a nice view of the mountains.
