Bare Ass Acres
We chose Bare Ass Acres for its excellent reviews and for its proximity to the Tall Grass Prairie National Preserve. The good reputation is well deserved: Brenda is a very welcoming host, the sites are fairly flat, with water and electricity, and availability of sewer. You can hear the train, but it certainly didn't keep us awake. We stayed 2 nights. Brenda, we enjoyed our conversations. If we ever travel to this area again we will definitely stay at this hipcamp again.

Brenda was a welcoming host and the spaces for RVs are fine, but we had zero shade for our tents, which would have been miserable had we not brought a shade canopy with us. There were probably some shady sites adjacent to the pond or the tree line, but the property hadn’t been mowed, and walking several hundred feet through foot-high grass during tick season wasn’t an option. The porta-potty on site is pretty bad - decrepit and surrounded by tall weeds - however Brenda was gracious about allowing people into her home to use the shower and bathroom. On the plus side, the location is quiet and peaceful, and close to many of the great destinations in the flint hills.
Be aware, also, that the price quoted is for only 2 people, and there is a ten dollar additional charge per extra person, which made our bill $177 for 2 nights for our group of five - very expensive for the limited amenities.

Brenda was great! Communicative and friendly, and helpful. Her land was lovely and convenient to Emporia and our event destination. There was one other trailer and a couple of tents, but we still had privacy. Very nice!

Great spot to camp when visiting Emporia. Close to town, but also far enough away to be quiet and peaceful. Brenda was exceptional the entire duration of my stay. The location has everything you need. Would love to come back here again!

We loved the peace and quiet off the beaten path. Our rescue dog Gemma loved the wide open spaces- she ran and played until she was exhausted. Brenda is great host, helping us find her farm when we “got lost!” Total hookups. You can hear the trains in the distance. Best night’s sleep in days.

Brenda was warm and welcoming and very accommodating. Her place is spacious-like a big open meadow. Plenty of room to set up our site. It was peaceful and quiet. The perfect respite from driving all day on the interstate. We loved hearing roosters crow in the morning and both the sunset and sunrise over the farm were beautiful.

Brenda was very nice, however the property was not as described. We set up in essentially a gravel driveway in front of a barn that people were living in -no privacy available. There was not a shower on the property. The toilet was a portapotti from the 1940’s era that was tipped onto its side due to the wind, we were asked to stand it back up - I don’t think it was cleaned afterwards which was kind of gross. For the price we paid for the weekend, we had really hoped for more.

Our second time here. Brenda's land was the perfect home base for Unbound Gravel. We set up a few tents and she directed us to the high ground so we could stay out of the rain. We also set up a larger tent over the picnic table so we could eat outside together despite the weather -- there was plenty of room to spread out. Having the bathroom was very nice as well.

Brenda was great! She was right there when we pulled in to get us checked in and made sure we were able to hook up. The property is beautiful, so peaceful and quiet. I went for daily runs while my husband prepared for Unbound Gravel race and we were able to leave right from the property and explore the roads surrounding. Absolutely loved our stay. The farm is an absolutely perfect getaway. Still close to emporia but with farm views, tons of birds and wildlife. Brenda is an amazing host and has a beautiful place. Doesn’t get any better.

We stayed for one night while attending an event in town. Was perfect for what we needed. We are not ‘parking lot’ campers and do not enjoy those campgrounds especially when they are next to interstates and highways. We found Brenda’s site online by looking elsewhere in the area. it was easy to book, communication was great, and it was exactly what we needed. Lots of room to spread out with kids and dogs

I loved the though the owner put into putting me in the space she did. Great property, wide open areas for dogs to run…a pond, very relaxing. Could I hear trains at night from two miles away? Yes. Is that to be expected on the prairie where noise carries? Also yes - just added to the charm.

Loved it! It was a beautiful area. We loved the train whistle in the distance and the neighbor’s cow quietly chatting together. Brenda is delightful snd very helpful. We’d absolutely stay here again.

Open space area with nice water spigots nearby. Appreciated the picnic table and fire pit. It gets quite dewy in the morning so recommene putting up your tent fly! Host was nice and welcoming.

Brenda the host, was super nice and accommodating, she greetef upon my arrival and offered help in setting up, the property is safe and wide open, seems remote but not far fir groceries and fuel. there is a large pond, This was a great place to stay fand get away from everything or a few nights,

Simple. Not too far from downtown. Lots of train horns at night but not a problem. Place had everything we needed and nothing we didn’t. We were able to use the shower and it made all the difference. I come to Emporia for various cycling events and I will come back here when I do. Brenda was accommodating but her job was easy with us since we were low maintenance low demand people.
