Spring Lake Campground was est. in 1943. The lake is fed by the Mississippi River and there is access to the lake and directly to the river for kayaking/boating and fishing, which is a popular reason people come to the campground. Another popular draw is that the Great River Bike Trail runs right through! It’s a beautiful ride from the campground to nearby Savanna, IL. There is so much to do in the surrounding area: hiking and climbing at Palisades State Park, restaurants, bars and shopping in Savanna, museums and more. But enjoying a peaceful time at the campground, having a bonfire, watching the sunset on the lake and seeing the stars at night is really what it’s about. True old school camping-enjoying the wildlife sanctuary. Get outside and relax.
*We ask that our campers please arrive before dark to find their site and set up to avoid disrupting other campers. It gets really dark! We do not have street lights so people can see the stars.

A Vintage campground est. 1943. Known for kayaking and fishing, this is a true campground. Instead of pavement, we have grass and trees but our best "amenity" is the peaceful outdoors! The Great River Bike Trail runs right through our campground. Rent a canoe or kayak (through October 1st) Historical Savanna, IL is close by. Enjoy Illinois!
Spring Lake Campground offers a serene and spacious setting, perfect for those seeking a private and picturesque camping experience. The campground is well-loved for its beautiful views, especially the sunsets over the lake, and the abundance of wildlife, including various bird species, deer, and even beavers. Danika and James, the hosts, are frequently praised for their hospitality and helpfulness, ensuring campers have everything they need during their stay. While the natural beauty and peaceful environment are highlights, some guests noted the proximity to train tracks as a minor drawback.
An absolute gem just minutes away from the Palisades and great for tent camping on a peninsula of the Mississippi River/South Spring Lake. Great birdwatching and wildlife spotting! I only wish the weather had been more cooperative during my stay! Would love to come back with our travel trailer someday!
Really great little spot right off Spring Lake. The tiny house was really cute, clean, and nicely organized. A cute spot tucked away from the rest of the camp and short walk to camp store. Camp store was nice and we rented kayaks. Having a warm clean shower (attached to the camp store) was a real treat. Really cool the great river bike trail runs directly through camp store
We love Spring Lake campground! It's very peaceful. The view is beautiful. Danika was very accommodating on both of our trips allowing us to change campsites. We will definitely be back.
Tent camping on Danika's land was an amazing time, she’s super hospitable and has the most convenient camp shop. Renting a kayak from her was easy and super fun and she gave great information about a local fishing spot where me and my family caught a bunch of fish. Would love to camp here again. The outdoor shower was so cute and one of my fav moments.
We really appreciated how the spacious tent sites are on the peninsula in their own area away from RVs. Danika went above and beyond recommending nearby hikes and local attractions and was very friendly and easy to reach our entire stay. The campground is very close to Mississippi Palisades State Park where we were able to do some beautiful hikes!
Staying overnight on the peninsula was heaven. The perfect weather was amazing so that we could really enjoy the terrific views of the lake and trees. Seriously, it is something out of a movie, so private and quiet. Just what we needed. We will be back!
Danika and James are fantastic hosts, the best!
The peninsula site was very spacious and well groomed. Surrounded by water and lots of wild life. So many different species of birds, deer, beaver.
Danika and James care about tent campers and made this Peninsula just for us. It was quite refresinf not to be set up against a huge RV. The site is so spacious you are far from campers next to you.
I will be back for sure.
Danika was a great communicator and made our trip easy! They have a lovely campground, great views of the water and sunset, and ample access to nature. If you are looking for a slow and easy retreat to the outdoors this is the place to go.
Plenty of hikes for all levels in the area, short 1 hour excursions or longer full day trails! Can't wait to come back and explore the river valley some more.
The site had an absolutely beautiful view of Spring Lake and is an incredible birdwatching site. Danika was such a great host and very communicative. I’d absolutely camp here again and hope to make it back next year!
Danika was awesome!
Great customer service and super responsive.
Our site was on the peninsula.
Breathtaking views! A nice little piece of heaven!
I highly recommend this camp site!
Very cool location; right on the river and the staff member (can’t remember his name) was really helpful and nice. The only true downside was the proximity to the train tracks. Several times each night, a train would pass through. Being that we were tent camping, it was unfortunate. We’ll definitely try again and aim for another spot on the peninsula
Loved it ,hated the mosquitos but that's camping in the woods for you come , prepared ..had a blast 2nd time here being on the water and able to take your own kayaks and explore spring lake and the Mississippi is pretty cool activity to chill and let the time go by .
Tent camping went great! We were a few feet from the Mississippi and the land was well taken care of. The owners stopped in to say hi & make sure we were all good to go within the first hour of being there :) great place!!!
I'll start with, if Peninsula 1 (35) is open, do not hesitate! Also, one night will not be enough. Not only is this site wonderfully stacked with hearty trees, just enough shade, a nice breeze off the water... Any site lining the way to the tip is just stellar. The bathroom is well kept. The outdoor shower was a super treat. I enjoyed access to the store and history of the land.
Danika and James are a true pleasure to meet and care very much about the integrity of the land and its past. As well, providing excitement about the natural wonders like the many birds home to this space.
I felt at home within minutes of parking my car, NO JOKE! I'll be a repeat camper for surely.
This was me and my family's first time camping so we were unsure of what to expect, on top of that the area was suffering from some bad weather , but Danika and James were very helpful and treated us nicely, they gave us ideas about exploring surrounding areas and activities , also their property is amazingly beautiful, clean and peaceful , it was an unforgivable experience for us .
Due to the weather, I was unable to make this trip. However, Danika was an incredible host and was very helpful and communicative. I look forward to staying here sometime soon!
Really enjoyed the space. Great view of Spring Lake. Easy kayak launch. Danika contacted me early the morning before and alerted me to the fact that the Mississippi River (to which Spring Lake is attached) was slowly on the rise and that there was a remote possibility that I may have to relocate. Fortunately, this didn't occur. Shortly after I arrived, Danika's husband arrived and asked if everything was OK and if I needed anything. I ordered $10 worth of firewood which was delivered promptly and far more than you would get at a gas station or a Dollar type store. Bring bug spray as the gnats were unhappy I was invading their space. A hiking/biking trail runs through the property into Savanna, IL which was easy. This is the third time I've been to the Savanna area, so I don't know if I will return any time soon, but if/when I do, I'll stay here.
