Eco-friendly meets rustic artsy!
Rustic, but with so much character and the kind of place where an artist's heart can run wild and free, I was enchanted by the camping/glamping experience on Nance's property. Down a private property road and in proximity to a barn that doubles as an indoor hangout space when the weather's less than lovely, the entire property is a sort of semi off-the-grid ecological farm; (Nance, my gracious host) would say it much better. Around every corner is a touch of artistry meet home-spun practicality. On-site there was incredible enjoyment of the nearby trails, wooden platforms and outdoor spaces. A couple of hammocks hung nearby invited the soul to linger a bit longer. For next time! Best of all, you'll love the sound of the howling coyotes from all directions, coupled with owls—perfect timed like a halloween soundtrack. Waking up to the sounds of birds chirping and the crisp cool air was just a pleasure. And don't forget to ask about the mud-built outdoor pizza often and the log-built sauna. Didn't do that add-on, but absolutely wish I had. For winter, would be amazing.

I saw Jupiter!
Fantastic stay in a cute and rustic setting. Visited from Chicago and it was nice to be connect with nature. The prairie was a beautiful range of gold, orange and brown with surprise hints of purple. I took a walk around the the prairie when I arrived, after dark, and early morning. Couldn't get enough. There's a bunch of cool biking too. At night the stars were amazing. And I saw Jupiter! Late at night a thunder storm rolled in and I was cozy as can be in the The Lichen Pod.

Will renew your sense of wonder
Staying here was an absolute dream! The Lichen Pod is clean n' cute, with a comfy bed, plenty of windows, and more space inside than I even knew what to do with - I was able to choose one area just for reading/journaling and one area just for stretching. Plenty of room for storage, too. Outside there's everything you could ask for: acres and acres of forest and prairie, a meandering stream, and even a cool wooden deck to watch the sunset from, with paths connecting them all together. It was perfect for hours of wandering around peacefully, plus I was able to see alllll the stars at night. This place has renewed my sense of connection with nature! Nance was a great host, and clearly cares deeply about this land - her wonder and knowledge made the visit all the more special. I definitely recommend!

Wonderful Retreat
I loved staying in the Lichen Pod and spending time on Nance's beautiful land. The camper itself is clean, cozy, comfortable and cutely decorated. Located conveniently close to the shared kitchen barn area which has everything one might need for meal prep, and the composting toilet/solar shower. The sounds of the wind in the trees, the birds and frogs and insects (a perfect lullaby), the fresh air, and the beautiful landscape - make for a wonderful retreat from the city. My dog and I really enjoyed walking along the paths around the prairie, sitting on the bridges over the creek, reading in a hammock and watching sunsets over the prairie from the platform. Nance is a wonderful host - kind, knowledgeable, helpful, and very clearly someone who cares deeply about this space. She's doing some really awesome work here, it's a very special place. So appreciative of her willingness to share it with others. Can't wait to come back and spend more time here!

unique camping in the driftless
Unique camping experience in the Driftless Region. The Lichen Pod is cozy and functional, super clean and fresh, made for a very airy and light feel with screens all around nestled in the pine trees. We had perfect weather so everything was easy! Kitchen in the barn is well organized, clean and easy to use, we kept everything safely closed in containers because it is open air.
LOVED the extra spaces/amenities-- the "Shittaker" composting toilet with next door solar shower area; the "Earthstar Lounge", and the wide walking pathways curving around the 50 acres of woodland, prairie, and even a little orchard. The bridges over the creek were another highlight, and biking trail nearby! This was an excellent getaway from the city life. Will definitely be coming back for a longer stay.

A slice of magic
We loved staying in the Lichenpod at Nance's land this week. The land is so beautiful and has everything you could need. Trees, a gorgeous wildflower prairie, a creek, and a very fun bike trail close by! Mushroom can be found on the trail. The soundscape was filled with all sorts of birds! The lichenpod was adorable and clean.
I will definitely come back here as much as I can :)
