. Twisted Oaks is located on 21 acres of tree lined Texas Hill Country nestled in the heart of San Marcos. . The campsites are well spaced and several have large oak tree canopy/shade, Campers may choose their own site based on availability. We encourage campers to purchase our firewood, we will make sure you have what you need at a fair price. Please be respectful. This is my home (35 years) I do not need any help redecorating or rearranging. Treat it as you would want your home treated by a guest. No tobacco if you choose to smoke do it in your vehicle. I work from my home, My workspace is separated from campsites and is off limits for your own safety. Campfires are tied to weather, strong wind low humidity and dry conditions will be considered when allowing permitted fires.... cook stoves are ok. We want our guests to enjoy and create lifelong memories...good vibes only.

Twisted Oaks is located on 20 acres of tree lined Texas Hill Country nestled in the heart of San Marcos . We have 10 main campsites named white, purple, green, orange red, blue ,and yellow. White and yellow are the premier sites. White has a picnic table under a large oak tree mulch tent site table chairs and a beach lounger and a porcelain sink to wash hands or dishes. White as well as all sites has a rock lined fire pit. Yellow was the first site I built and has a large firepit surrounded by large boulders to sit on and enjoy the warmth Yellow also has a large oak tree to shade your tent site There is a large table and dry sink to wash dishes This is private Property for those of you who are new to hipcamp. This means you may or may not have other camping neighbors but the land is owner occupied. This is a NATURAL area with all that goes with that. We want people who still appreciate places that society has not destroyed. Please do not expect a KOA type place. This is San Marcos Texas, gateway to the hill country and full of all that the hill country offers. If you are new to this area I suggest doing some research or reach out with your concerns. If you have toddlers please reach out for all question and concerns before you book. I take a lot of pride in the 35 years of work I have put into this land. We expect all our guests to treat her in kind. If you have a large group please be aware that you can rent nearby camp sites to create one large venue for for family or friends. 20 acres allows for lots of options. Let me know what you are looking for and together we will make it work. The camp sites are well spaced to allow for privacy The theme and consistent thread that weaves through the fabric of camp is simplicity and attention to the land. We use rainwater for showers and also have a composting porta john. The rules are simple if you pack it in pack it out. We discourage collecting of firewood. Snakes tend to hang out in brush piles and do not like to be disturbed. We sell firewood at a reasonable cost better than box store. If you want to recycle aluminum cans we have a bin for those Each campsite has a nice rock fire pit with an inner ring and cooking grates. We also provide a table. We have two new additions to camp. The first is reserved for large groups Also a 1969 Airstream that we will rent for $ per night. Please inquire for booking details These are custom built units and are by no means meant to replace the amenities of a hotel room. The attraction would be privacy and country quiet.

Camping at John's land offers a serene and welcoming experience, ideal for those seeking a peaceful retreat close to San Marcos. John's property is appreciated for its simplicity with accessible fire pits and ample space for tents, coupled with a host who is attentive and friendly. The setting is particularly favored for its natural beauty, and even though some may find the presence of equipment on-site a departure from a pure nature experience, it generally doesn't detract from the overall charm. With John's attention to detail and care for the land, along with its convenient proximity to local amenities, visitors often leave feeling valued and eager to return.

Peaceful pasture (large groups)
John and Nugget were excellent hosts. Property was well suited for our large group, and John made sure we were taken care of. Had a blast sitting round the fire at night and hanging out. Will have to come back and try the trampoline!

Do this instead of the river camps.
John is very friendly and accommodating. The campground is on his property in a very wooded area with many deer and other animals. It is very peaceful and gets cool at night. It was very easy to get to the location and there is a church 5 minutes down the road. 10/10.

Twisted Oaks campsites
My wife and I loved camping on John’s land. We stayed at site 3 which is nicely shaded and close to an outhouse. It’s quiet and peaceful. It’s a little over a hour south of Austin. There are disc golf baskets around the property, which we took full advantage of. For anyone who is planning on visiting San Marcos to go to The Flying Armadillo Disc Golf course- John’s property is minutes away. John is incredibly responsive, helpful, and mindful of his guest’s experience. We’ll certainly be back for more camping adventures.

Beautiful land, friendly owner!
No frills car camping, highly recommended! John’s land is beautiful and has many sites to choose from with flat places for tents, fire ring, tables and chairs. John is friendly and so are his dogs. He’s done a lot of DIY projects like an outdoor shower, bucket flush toilet, disc golf holes (bring your own discs) and has a few campers, a dump truck and other equipment on site that might not feel like pure nature but it didn’t bother me. If you want a true “pristine natural area” look elsewhere but for weekend car campers it’s a great place. Firewood available on site. 15 mins from downtown.
