Wild Yough is located in Southern Garrett County, Maryland very close to Herrington Manor State Park, Swallows Falls State Park, and the quaint mountain village of Oakland. The property adjoins thousands of acres of Garrett State Forest and hundreds of acres of state land along the Youghiogheny River. The world class Wisp resort and Deep Creek Lake are only minutes away. “Yough” is short for Youghiogheny River a state designated wild and scenic river which runs through the heart of the property. Wild Yough Glamping huts are part of more than 350 acres of private land, most of which is crisscrossed with hiking and biking trails. Youghiogheny is an Algonquin word meaning “a stream flowing in a contrary direction”, or in the case of the Yough, North toward Ohio Pyle and Pittsburgh. This section of the river is designated as a protected scenic corridor and you will feel the quiet isolation when sitting on the Crooked Butt Bench overlooking the big horseshoe bend in the river at the far back corner of our property. And if the river is low during your visit, feel free to wade across to the other side – Wild Yough owns the entire peninsula of land on the other side of the river and this is also bordered by State land.The river banks are steep on the property, but the fishing for small mouth bass is exceptional. There is a small turn around on the path just beyond Crooked Butt Bench where you can take out your canoe, kayak, or inner tubes after floating the 2+ miles from the Oakland bridge. Just be prepared to walk your water craft back up to the house or Glamping site as there is no motorized access to the river.If you like to lay on the rocks in the sun or take the kids for some wading in the river, the best place is the farthest to walk to. Take the trail to “High Bluff”, then cross the Snyder property line (Permission for trail access only – do not leave trail!), then descend down and cross the bridge across Herrington Manor Creek (a stocked trout stream!). We stayed in Blackbear 2 and the view was incredible. The cabin was a little musty but once the window and screen door was open with the fan going, it was fine. We did end up using our sleep pad on top of the futon for some extra cushion because you could feel the bars when folded out. But it was all worth it for that view. The mini-fridge was bigger than expected and the TV has basic cable.
The campground and the staff are lovely. Everyone was welcoming and helpful. The facilities and grounds were clean and there was a lot to do! My daughter enjoyed the playgrounds, playing along the shoreline, riding her bike, playing basketball, and the splash pad (which is fed by a well - so it is not on all the time. They announce the times - usually runs for an hour at a time). She even made a few friends at the playground which is close enough to see from this cabin. It was helpful not having 2 RVs behind us though - it made for clear sight lines to the playground. The camp store is full of basics and fun souvenirs.
I realized I still had the cabin key after we were long gone on the way home 😬 I called them to let them know we would mail it and they were very gracious.
I would definitely recommend the campground, especially for families. We would stay again on our next trip out for sure.

Rainbow 1 was a perfect retreat for my partner and I during some rainy days. The cabin felt spacious yet cozy for 2. The big tv in the living room was wonderful for gaming and the hot tub out back was lovely. The staff was a delight as well, full of good advice on all manner of topics. Thank you, and I hope to be back some time!!

It was nice to have the cabin and running water / toilets near by… we enjoyed hiking all the trails, met a nice couple … when we comeback we won’t stay in the Stanley cabin because cars drove right by our window a few times each night and people were partying at the main building at 2am one night so our sleep was not good

We had a lovely stay! Our cabin area was tidy and very peaceful with the lull of the river in the background. We enjoyed walking to the bridge down the road and exploring the local trails and riverfront. Ample camping amenities: coffee/tea/drinks/wifi available near the office area, plenty of wood/fire starter for those who needed some, and the port a potty was clean. Pro tip: bring your own potable water or a filter. There is plenty of fresh water available, but it's not potable. Vincent was an incredibly accommodating and personable host and you can tell how hard he and his crew work to keep the site in tip-top shape!

Stayed here over this past weekend and was very impressed. Price was very reasonable and accommodations were significantly better than expected - everything was very nice and included an excellent grill, good furniture/bedding, and a kitchen stocked with the essentials (pots, pans, utensils, coffee makers [Keurig and regular coffee pot], and so on). The cabin itself is at the end of the other lodges - so it's a bit more private - which is also nice.
Additionally, when we first arrived the hot tub was not hot. I called the front desk, and they came out with 30 minutes and fixed the issue, and it warmed up by evening. Great service and the staff were super friendly.
Also, the river is only about 30 feet away from the cabin. We did lots of fishing and it was awesome to have it so close to our location.

1 night at Brooklyn Heights Riverfront Camp
If I could give 100 stars I would. This location is on a dead end Street on a beautiful river. They have many acres and it will look like you are going to nowhere but you are going somewhere Awesome! I went in early January, snow on the ground when I arrived..I was in a very low car and still arrived safely. The roads were clean, even if narrow, which is to be expected in the area. Mountain roads are a great experience! I was staying just one night on a trip that I wish I had more time to stay here on! The campground itself is described as primitive maybe because of the amenities, but I had close to everything needed and was advised to bring stuff that wasn’t provided. So I was good to go. I booked the heated and electric supplied tiny cabin specifically because I knew I would be traveling in January and needed to recharge. The temperature overnight was I think in the 40s, my little heater ran all night long. I had blankets and I was comfortable. At one point I was actually hot. A overnight rainstorm washed away most of the snow and any threat of ice and then the next morning was absolutely stunning! Fire Island and the river access and the buses and the teepee look like something I want to do in the spring or summer! The coffee hut was open 24 seven and the firewood was plentiful. I had the entire place almost to myself with the exception of the “staff/owner”. But I was completely able to self check in and stay independently. Vince checked in but it’s very well marked.
