The property is very secluded, but only 2 hrs from D. C. and Baltimore. The space can accommodate 5 tents comfortably or a few small campers (w/o hookups). Please note- I only book one group at a time. You'll have plenty of privacy! Spend your day bird watching on the river deck, put up your hammock and chill, go hiking or mountain biking at Cacapon State Park, take the kayaks out and paddle around, go fishing, or take a float trip. I can provide info on put in/take out spots depending on how long you'd like to float. I have 3 kayaks available for your use, or BYO if you'd like to venture further outside of the property lines. There is one big fire ring for cooking and/or bonfires, along with a large stationary stand up charcoal camp grill. There is also a small communal shed down at camp that contains extra camping supplies, etc.. feel free to use use and put back and or/ contribute to it! :) This spot is close by to Berkeley Springs, Paw Paw Tunnel, Cacapon State Park, and other nature preserves. More hiking, biking, restaurants, spas, antiquing- all within a beautiful 20 minute drive if you wish to venture out. There is a cabin on the property. I will more often be home than not, I will communicate with you about that around your stay. Sometimes I"ll come down to the river frontage if I drop in for a float .Also, we all get around on four wheelers and UTV's. So you will hear them from time to time. If I am home, please feel free to come up if you have any concerns/questions or to say hi! :) *Please note, you can normally get to this site without a 4 wheel drive vehicle. However, when the river is high it will sometimes flood the low water bridge where it crosses the Cacapon. If this is the case during your stay, I will provide all necessary information regarding projected river levels and directions. I will also offer a full refund if the bridge is impassable. Peaceful camping with privacy on a 160-acre historic farm! Minutes from Harpers Ferry, Antietam Battlefield and the C&O Canal to name a few. We are within an hour of Gettysburg and within an hour and a half of DC if you're planning a day trip. We have a prime central location with close access to so many things to do. This beautiful property is nestled in a valley between Elk Ridge and South Mountain with incredible sunrises, sunsets and starlit night skies. Walk out to the fishing pond, or follow the trails around the pastures to meet the cattle grazing. We have Scottish Highlands and Black Angus grazing as well as Alpacas. We also have beautiful peacocks on the property. We are a working farm so expect to see tractors and you may even see us baling hay or tending to the cattle. You may smell some animal smells which we work at keeping to a minimum but again, we are a working farm. It’s a true farm experience. Also, please keep in mind that during warm weather you may encounter some bugs. Gnats and flies are always a possibility and of course at times they can be worse than others. That can always be a possibility when camping or being outdoors. Bring bug spray, citronella and anything else to help with insects. If you stay by the pond you may hear frogs which personally I enjoy hearing but some may not. Consider bringing a generator and run a fan if you think the sound might bother you or some way to block sounds. We enjoy talking to our guests so feel free to stop us for a chat. At the RV sites you have 30 and 50 amp power as well as water. All the water spickets are potable and drinkable. Please be aware that some may not have great cell service and as noted in the amenity section we do not have WiFi at any of the sites yet. It is something we are looking into for the future. If something is urgent you should be able to pick up WiFi near the tenant house and a password can be provided for you to try.

We stayed one night with our two 12 year old girls. They loved kayaking , playing cornhole (from the shed on the property), dancing on the platform and roasting marshmallows. It was so peaceful and can’t wait to visit this site again. This has been our fave camping site yet!

The pond site is great and the entire property is perfect for camping. We were there for only one night but would come back again to enjoy the region, including all of the nearby historical and natural areas. The directions to the site, and the hosts instructions, were very clear and easy to follow.

We tent-camped at Peaceful Pond for the second year in a row with my two sons (14 and 11) and our dog, and it was exactly the reset we needed. We’re from right outside DC, so the quiet out here felt almost unreal. Aside from the occasional cow mooing or dog barking , it was just us and the farm. The best part was the simple stuff: morning coffee by the pond, hanging around the fire, making s’mores, and having the kind of deeper conversations you only get when everyone’s finally off their screens. It’s the kind of place that slows you down without trying. Highly recommend for anyone looking for calm, space, and an easy, comfortable spot to camp.

We stayed at the pond campsite and it was everything we wanted. I was hoping it was slightly further away from cars as you can hear the occasional sirens and the particularly loud cars, but most of the sounds of traffic were gone and replaced by farm sounds. We loved hearing the cows talk to each other. The host was kind and polite, their general store has candy, firewood, hamburgers, etc. And it's 24 hours, honor system, so if we ran out of wood for our fire at 11pm we could walk right over and cashapp her, although we didn't need that this time. Will probably do that next time to save car space from bringing our own firewood. And there will be a next time! Only 16 mins away from Harpers Ferry, the grass/dirt road was easy for my tiny car to handle (though may be different in the rain), the Porta potty at our site was far enough away that we couldn't smell it or hear each other use it (not that it smelled much anyway, very well maintained, even had toilet paper), but close enough that it was extremely convenient. You couldn't hear any other campers or those at the air BnB on the property. I really have no bad things to say about this place.

I stayed here for just one night but really wish I could’ve stayed longer! The location is absolutely perfect, literally right on the water. The site is huge and could easily host a large group of friends while still feeling private and secluded. I also loved that I could bring my dog along. Despite feeling tucked away in nature, it’s only about 15 minutes from Berkeley Springs, which was super convenient. The host was very friendly and sent clear, detailed directions and instructions before my arrival. I’d love to come back when it’s a bit warmer. Overall this is definitely one of the nicest Hipcamps I’ve stayed at, especially for the location!

The camp site was easy to find and well suited for us. It was quiet as we were the only ones in the campground. We heard the train, but it wasn't loud. There was the howling of coyotes in the evening and a distant rooster crowing in the morning all adding to the ambiance. I was in campsite 1 which was very close to parking. The water tap up near the garden was convenient and tasted wonderful. I would stay here again but have one caution. Check yourself for ticks. I found one crawling on me and the next day found another one attached.

We loved our weekend at Kara’s land! It was well-appointed, with a ton of amenities-shower, grill, supplies in the shed, electricity, etc., but still primitive and exactly what we were hoping for. Kara’s land is so beautiful! From the trees and river, to the stunning stars and a few cameos by bald eagles and owls, we are more than happy and relaxed. We had tremendous luck fishing- a fun and constant catching of blue gill and even a few small mouth bass! There were ample tethers to attach our doggo so she never missed out on the action. A quick and lovely drive into town (20 min) to snag needed supplies and then back to remote, beautiful, secluded Byrd’s Nest for food cooked over a fire and staring at our surroundings. We will definitely be back.

We really enjoyed the hill top camping perch above the Basecamp spot. We were able to get two rigs up there, along with some tents. It was a great spot to stop for the night before continuing our weekend journey. Would definitely come back.

Great treehouse! Make sure you hold onto the handrails when going up. Those steps can be slippery! Inside is very cozy. Make sure you’re comfortable sleeping with your companion that you come with! Very quiet and secluded.

Kara’s property is a lovely getaway in the woods. It has all the amenities you may need, and a little extra-like the very nice hot shower. If you are down at the campsite on the river, you have river views all the time, if you are up at the top, you can simply walk down and get a great view. Would stay again! The glamping option was very nice for when it started to pour down rain. We hung out, played games and still had a great time! Kara‘s instructions were clear and very helpful.

We have a beautiful forested mountain that sits at the southern edge of the GreenRidge State Forest. We sit on top of the Paw Paw tunnel and have access to the C and O Canal Trail. We view this place has nature's forest that we are stewards of. We are reclaiming this land that was clear cut over a hundred years ago for an apple orchard and then used as a sawmill and car dump. We have a beautiful deciduous and pine forest with an incredible scenic mountain top that can view the Potomac River at one end. Each day we are working the land to create a beautiful back to nature spot for campers, hikers, bikers, river and travel enthusiasts. Peaceful camping with privacy on a 160-acre historic farm! Minutes from Harpers Ferry, Antietam Battlefield and the C&O Canal to name a few. We are within an hour of Gettysburg and within an hour and a half of DC if you're planning a day trip. We have a prime central location with close access to so many things to do. This beautiful property is nestled in a valley between Elk Ridge and South Mountain with incredible sunrises, sunsets and starlit night skies. Walk out to the fishing pond, or follow the trails around the pastures to meet the cattle grazing. We have Scottish Highlands and Black Angus grazing as well as Alpacas. We also have beautiful peacocks on the property. We are a working farm so expect to see tractors and you may even see us baling hay or tending to the cattle. You may smell some animal smells which we work at keeping to a minimum but again, we are a working farm. It’s a true farm experience. Also, please keep in mind that during warm weather you may encounter some bugs. Gnats and flies are always a possibility and of course at times they can be worse than others. That can always be a possibility when camping or being outdoors. Bring bug spray, citronella and anything else to help with insects. If you stay by the pond you may hear frogs which personally I enjoy hearing but some may not. Consider bringing a generator and run a fan if you think the sound might bother you or some way to block sounds. We enjoy talking to our guests so feel free to stop us for a chat. At the RV sites you have 30 and 50 amp power as well as water. All the water spickets are potable and drinkable. Please be aware that some may not have great cell service and as noted in the amenity section we do not have WiFi at any of the sites yet. It is something we are looking into for the future. If something is urgent you should be able to pick up WiFi near the tenant house and a password can be provided for you to try.

I can provide info on put in/take out spots depending on how long you'd like to float. I have 3 kayaks available for your use, or BYO if you'd like to venture further outside of the property lines. There is one big fire ring for cooking and/or bonfires, along with a large stationary stand up charcoal camp grill. There is also a small communal shed down at camp that contains extra camping supplies, etc.. feel free to use use and put back and or/ contribute to it! :) This spot is close by to Berkeley Springs, Paw Paw Tunnel, Cacapon State Park, and other nature preserves. More hiking, biking, restaurants, spas, antiquing- all within a beautiful 20 minute drive if you wish to venture out. There is a cabin on the property. I will more often be home than not, I will communicate with you about that around your stay. Sometimes I"ll come down to the river frontage if I drop in for a float .Also, we all get around on four wheelers and UTV's. So you will hear them from time to time. However, when the river is high it will sometimes flood the low water bridge where it crosses the Cacapon. Peaceful camping with privacy on a 160-acre historic farm! Minutes from Harpers Ferry, Antietam Battlefield and the C&O Canal to name a few. We are within an hour of Gettysburg and within an hour and a half of DC if you're planning a day trip. We have a prime central location with close access to so many things to do. This beautiful property is nestled in a valley between Elk Ridge and South Mountain with incredible sunrises, sunsets and starlit night skies. Walk out to the fishing pond, or follow the trails around the pastures to meet the cattle grazing. We have Scottish Highlands and Black Angus grazing as well as Alpacas. We also have beautiful peacocks on the property. We are a working farm so expect to see tractors and you may even see us baling hay or tending to the cattle. You may smell some animal smells which we work at keeping to a minimum but again, we are a working farm. It’s a true farm experience. Also, please keep in mind that during warm weather you may encounter some bugs. Gnats and flies are always a possibility and of course at times they can be worse than others. That can always be a possibility when camping or being outdoors. Bring bug spray, citronella and anything else to help with insects. If you stay by the pond you may hear frogs which personally I enjoy hearing but some may not. Consider bringing a generator and run a fan if you think the sound might bother you or some way to block sounds. We enjoy talking to our guests so feel free to stop us for a chat. At the RV sites you have 30 and 50 amp power as well as water. All the water spickets are potable and drinkable. Please be aware that some may not have great cell service and as noted in the amenity section we do not have WiFi at any of the sites yet. It is something we are looking into for the future. If something is urgent you should be able to pick up WiFi near the tenant house and a password can be provided for you to try.

~ Awarded Hipcamp’s Best in State: West Virginia, since 2019 ~ The Byrd's Nest is a river front, primitive campsite on the scenic Cacapon River in Great Cacapon, WV. The property is very secluded, but only 2 hrs from D. C. and Baltimore. The space can accommodate 5 tents comfortably or a few small campers (w/o hookups). Please note- I only book one group at a time. You'll have plenty of privacy! Spend your day bird watching on the river deck, put up your hammock and chill, go hiking or mountain biking at Cacapon State Park, take the kayaks out and paddle around, go fishing, or take a float trip. I can provide info on put in/take out spots depending on how long you'd like to float. I have 3 kayaks available for your use, or BYO if you'd like to venture further outside of the property lines. There is one big fire ring for cooking and/or bonfires, along with a large stationary stand up charcoal camp grill. There is also a small communal shed down at camp that contains extra camping supplies, etc.. feel free to use use and put back and or/ contribute to it! :) This spot is close by to Berkeley Springs, Paw Paw Tunnel, Cacapon State Park, and other nature preserves. More hiking, biking, restaurants, spas, antiquing- all within a beautiful 20 minute drive if you wish to venture out. There is a cabin on the property. I will more often be home than not, I will communicate with you about that around your stay. Sometimes I"ll come down to the river frontage if I drop in for a float .Also, we all get around on four wheelers and UTV's. So you will hear them from time to time. If I am home, please feel free to come up if you have any concerns/questions or to say hi! :) *Please note, you can normally get to this site without a 4 wheel drive vehicle. However, when the river is high it will sometimes flood the low water bridge where it crosses the Cacapon. If this is the case during your stay, I will provide all necessary information regarding projected river levels and directions. I will also offer a full refund if the bridge is impassable.
