Weekend Trip to The Purple Cottage
Great place to unwind and detach. The moment you get there you just feel like you can rest and relax without guilt. Do at least 4 or 5 days to really enjoy it.

What a peaceful spot right off 101 in Quilcine! Mary was very nice and their set up is great. Clean port a potty, water, table, firepit, hammock stand, and two chairs. I will come back again for sure!

Wildwood Farms - Olympics Area
We stayed here from 8/9-8/10 (Sat-Sun) and had such a lovely experience. Mary and Pete, the hosts, were incredibly sweet and welcoming. Our one-night stay at this beautiful Olympic-area campsite was peaceful, scenic, and well worth the visit.
We loved the never-ending water faucet--supposedly the cleanest water around--paired with a gorgeous mountain view. The site came with camping chairs and a fire pit (though we couldn't use the fire pit due to seasonal burn restrictions). We especially enjoyed watching the friendly chickens roam around. Mary mentioned they're about 4 years old and still laying 6-7 eggs per 15 chickens--very impressive! Their eggs ($6/dozen) had deep yellow, vibrant yolks that were clearly organic and fresh.
Yes, the chickens can be a little chatty in the morning, but it added to the charm for us. The port-a-potty was far nicer than average thanks to the scents and care Mary and Pete put into maintaining it--truly appreciated! It came stocked with toilet paper, and the water faucet (with a blue handle) was easy enough to operate once you got the hang of it. Just remember to bring your own soap or dish soap, as those aren't provided.
We stayed at Campsite One, which was spacious enough for 6-8 people and offered a fantastic value. Between the friendly hosts, fresh eggs, mountain views, and peaceful farm atmosphere, this was one of the best campsites we've enjoyed--and we'd happily return.

Weekend Trip to The Purple Cottage
The place is EPIC. Comfy, welcoming, brimming with awesome art, and memories all over. It felt like we were walking into such a thoughtful space, which was only exemplified by the kindness of appliances, access, and bits and bobs which made our stay even more wonderful.
Sarah was kind, responded promptly, and was very conscious about our space and time whilst we were at the property.
The hot tub was clean, warm, and ready to use. The bathroom which is right next door to where we slept was well stocked and the shower was great!
Myself and my partner loved every minute and we will likely be back at some point! Thank you for creating such a unique spot on the island! I cant recommend this place enough!

We had a great time camping here. We had 2 families sharing 2 of the sites, with kids on one and grownups on the other. The sites were close enough to feel ok about this, but far enough away to provide some distance/privacy.
The property was lovely and the views were amazing. Loved the shade provided by the trees, and the pigs were a real treat.
But note that there is a direct neighbor to the east, and we had the misfortune of being there during some yard work with a backhoe.

INCREDIBLE hipcamp! It exceeded our expectations and we could not recommend it more. Mary is the most lovely host who clearly takes a lot of pride in the land and space. All the campsites looked beautiful, but we had #3 which gave our family a lot of great sun, shade, space and privacy. The kids and adults both loved the swing in the large gorgeous maple tree, and we put our chairs in the little babbling brook to cool down and chill out. I will say, as someone who loves to camp but isn't excited about porta potties- this one really is exceptional. And the drinking water is phenomenal. So nice to have the water accessible and easy to use.
The town of Quilcene (pearl of the peninsula!) is awesome and don't miss the Quilcene village store (amazing!). We checked out Leland Lake, went on some great local hikes, and maybe our favorite thing was going swimming in the Quilcene Bay when the tide came in. It was so warm! As we came back to the hipcamp and visited the pigs, we saw incredible sunsets and moon rising above the silhouette of the mountains.
What a gorgeous find. Thank you Mary and Pete! Hope to come back before long!

Beautiful farm with space for kids to roam around. We camped in the apple orchard and it had sufficient shade for a sunny and warm weekend. There is a small creek which the kids loved to dip their hands and legs in. Mary was welcoming, nice and provided a quick tour of the place when we arrived. Would definitely recommend this farm for a quiet and pleasant weekend.

Wonderful spot for tent camping! The mountains are gorgeous, the camping spots are spacious, and we loved visiting the piggies. The apple orchard spot also had amazing views of the night sky and there were tons of birds for a little bird-watching. Perfect place for our first camping trip with our new dog, who had a great time.

What a great spot! So much to do in the area. The campsite was easy to find, quite secluded, and in very good shape. There is a cute ravine and a huge tree at the site. Super easy walk from where you park the car. They have a few wheelbarrows to help move you gear. All around wonderful. Mary was super nice and helpful too.

We loved the site! Our 4 kids loved hunting for slugs in the large private orchard and playing along the shallow creek. The giant oak was a huge hit with a swing underneath ! Mary and Pete’s land was very spacious and had plenty of room between campsites.

The cottage itself was as expected: cute and intimate. The land around it was spectacular! Amazing birdsong and many types of berries: Very restorative. And Sarah was a wonderful host--informative, attentive, and friendly, but gave us all the space and privacy we needed. Highly recommend. Get your dreams of rest off the back burner. Do it now!

Weekend Trip to Wildwood Farms Camp
I enjoyed staying here with family! It was very calm, relaxing and peaceful! I enjoyed all the amenities. Port-a Potty was the cleanest and nicest smelling! I loved the bouquet of peonies! Enjoyed delicious, crisp cold water from the pump! The Mountain View’s are stunning! Enjoyed watching all the hummingbirds and the property was so pretty with so many beautiful flowers growing all around.

Tips for snagging a campsite
- You can reserve all of the park’s 172 tent sites, 134 partial-hookup sites, and five hiker/biker sites online.
- Deception Pass is a popular state park. Reservations should be made in advance, especially for summer weekends. All campsites can be reserved online, up to nine months in advance of the arrival date.
- The Ben Ure Cabin on Ben Ure Island is accessible only by kayak or rowboat, and guests must bring their own water.
When to go
Deception Pass State Park is open year-round. In the Coastal Northwest’s relatively mild climate, there’s never a bad time to visit. Summers, especially on weekends and holidays, are very busy here. But come in the shoulder season—in the spring or early summer, before July 4—or early fall, after Memorial Day, and you’re more likely to find seclusion. Weekdays are generally a better bet, too.
Know before you go
- You can rent kayaks and stand-up paddleboards at the Bowman Bay concession stand from April through September.
- Visitors will need to display a day-use or annual Discover Pass. The park has automated pay stations dispensing both, along with boat launch permits.
- The park has 1.2 miles of ADA hiking trails, in addition to three miles of bike trails, six miles of horse trails, and 38 miles of hiking trails.
