Our Scottish Highland Cattle are majestic and fit in quite well in the NC mountainside. Located in the Blue Ridge mountains, we have natural water springs popping out, some of which are tapped to drink from. (10.1.23 currently farm springs are not accessible to guests, shatley springs up the road approx 4miles north has a public spring that we highly recommend) If you are looking for a camping spot that is only 5-10 minutes from town (Jefferson NC or the quaint Downtown West Jefferson) but feels like you're in the middle of no where, then we have it! The Blue Ridge Parkway is less than 20 minutes away and the New River equally close. Looking Forward: July update. We are currently working on provided an all downhill mountain bike trail from 3600 to 3150ft. This path will be double wide for the most part and wide open at first to soak in the se view. 101 Acres of forested land in the Draper, Virginia area with scattered clearings that are connected by over 2 miles of cleared roads throughout the property, which are perfect for hiking, cycling, and horseback riding. The property includes a very small creek, several ravines, ridge lines and trails to explore. We frequently encounter deer, rabbits, squirrels, and the occasional turkey, black bear, coyotes and Bigfoot. The thing people seem to enjoy most is the privacy and and quiet that allows you to connect with nature. Each of the 3 sites is hundreds of yards away from each other. Note: there is no bathroom on the premises, however you can book a toilet tent as an extra. 4 Wheel Drive or All wheel drive are helpful during the winter months if there has been a lot of rain or snow/ice. Things to watch out for are deer ticks and poison ivy. Campers are expected to leave the site neat and take all their trash with them. We are located about 5 minutes from I-81 or 15 minutes from I-77 making it an easy place to stop when passing through on your way to other adventures. If you are coming on I-81, use exit 89-A. Don't let Google maps take you to Frog Level Ct near the town of Pulaski (LOL). Nearby attractions include Appalachian Gem and Gold Mine on Route 100 (5 min), New River Trail State Park (10 min), Claytor Lake State Park (20 min) and the Town of Draper has a couple small town shops to explore including The Draper Mercantile and Trading Company and the newly opened Conery where you can get wonderful ice cream cones and more. Also, check out the Draper Mountain overlook on Rt 11, just 10 minutes from our HipCamp. We love hosting campers and are happy to help make accommodations to help you have an enjoyable stay. We have 3 sites but only allow 2 to be in use at a time on the property. This insures that all guests continue to feel complete privacy from others and allows us to always have an alternate site available if campers want to change. Available "Extras" include portable toilet setup, Woodshop class making a cutting board, Bigfoot sitings as well as various camping gear items and games. We have traced this farm's history back to the 1750's when a mill was built on Reed Creek. There is a log home that we know that was built in 1840 still on the premises. The white farm house across from the camp sites was built in 1877. The fish hatchery that is still in operation today was built by the Federal Government in 1923. Learn more about this land: Camp site situated along 3 separate creeks connected by one large private 11 acre field. Tate Run/ Reed Creek/ Venrick Run. The farm house is across the road and the whole property comprises of 88 acres of woods and pasature. The farm house was built in 1877 and the Ranch currently operates with 30 head of cattle and a working trout hatchery. Weekend Trip to 100 Acre Wood

Our trip back home from GA to WV had a lot of traffic delays and the weather was turning much colder than expected, so we decided to power through and drive straight home. But since this was right on the way home, we decided to stop and check out the site. It's a beautiful spot with trees on three sides, so there's less wind. The site is primitive but well maintained with two nice picnic benches and a good fire pit. Communication was great. We will be back!

Very accommodating hosts, guided us to our site 5, right on the banks of a small creek.We camped with a 20 ft trailer,only neighbors were friendly farm critters.We would definitely return, when in the area .

I stayed at The Love Shack this weekend and had a wonderful experience. Wendy was a wonderful host—thoughtful, welcoming, and clearly dedicated to creating a beautiful space for her guests. She even cleared the leaves off the trail before I arrived, which made for such a lovely walk through the woods. I spotted a deer along the way which was nice. The A-frame shelter was cozy and warm. I enjoyed the most relaxing nap in the hammock. I highly recommend!

We had a great time at the love shack! It was perfectly cozy, and Wendy has done such a wonderful job creating an accommodative experience that really feels unique. The shack itself was more spacious than I expected, and the setting was beautiful, were very grateful that Wendy would share her beautiful land with the public! Even though it rained we were able to stay warm and dry. It was a really great place to stay, and I hope we get another chance to visit.

Weekend Trip to The Oasis at Harmon Creek Farms

My husband and i visited Oasis at Harmon Creek Farm from November 7-11th and had the best time doing nothing but relaxing by a fire most of the time. We needed LOTS of firewood not only because we like a campfire but the nights were pretty chilly. The whole farm is just beautiful, I loved waking up early and visiting the cows and donkeys in the pasture across from our site. The creek is just peaceful to look at and to listen to and watching the colorful leaves falling from the trees was mesmerizing. Cheryl and her family were so kind and accommodating and anytime we needed wood, they were always willing to get it to us. The entire family was welcoming and enjoyable to talk to. This place truly is a gem and we will be going back as soon as it warms up a little.

Where to go

Claytor Lake State Park

Sweat on the trails, and then cool off with a swim in Claytor Lake. Reservations are required for tent camping, yurt, waterview cabin, and bunkhouse rentals by the lake, and they’re worth it—electric hookups and picnic areas are available at most on-site campgrounds. Check out private boat rentals at the marina for outings on the water. Anglers can also enjoy the fishing pier, while campers seeking scenery can hike Lakeview Trail for an easy walk by the lake.

Fairy Stone State Park

Known for the rare, tiny “fairy stones'' that fill the red sand, Fairy Stone State Park offers a beautiful destination for hiking, horseback riding, paddleboating, and swimming in the 168-acre lake. Tent camping, equestrian camping, and climate-controlled cabin or yurt rentals allow campers to stay overnight in the park, but cabins don’t include linens. Most campsites include fire rings and electric and water hookups. For a unique souvenir, walk to the Fairy Stone Pit Stop and hunt for fairy stones—each visitor is allowed to collect a few to take home.

Stone Mountain State Park

Just over the North Carolina border lies Stone Mountain State Park, home to the 600-foot national landmark that gives the area its name. Wander along hiking trails for waterfall views, fish for trout in streams, or go horseback riding on one of Stone Mountain’s many bridle trails. Electric and water hookups and a dump station make this park RV-friendly. Group and individual tent camping sites also offer showers and firewood.

Fall is the most popular time to camp near Fancy Gap, when bright colors decorate the forests and campers can relax in cool weather. In summer, temperatures average around 80°F. Campers can beat the humidity with a campground near the water for swimming, boating, and fishing. Most Virginia state parks are open year-round, so winter camping near Fancy Gap is also an option for campers seeking a quiet escape. Winter temperatures in the area average between 40–45°F.
