Starting December 1, or first night below freezing we will be closing down Bath House and only access will be at outhouses. Only sites near outhouses will be open and there will be no access to water. Situated at the foot of the Blue Ridge Mountains and bordering the Jefferson National Forest, Thunder BRidge has scenic, large, private tent sites and cabins in the woods for those who want to experience camping at its finest. Many of the sites border Elk Creek. Our RV sites are large, flat and at the edge of the forest in a well kept open green space. Our 100 acres was originally a camp built by the Civilian Conservation Corp in the "30s and early '40s, then a boys' juvenile detention center and Big Brothers'/Big Sisters' camp, which closed in 2009. The tent sites and cabins are in the forest, away from the buildings out front, but you're free to walk around and check out the historic site. Most of the buildings out front are artist studios (currently for 16 artists). We like to share the camp with others and watch it come back to life. All within a short driving distance are the Natural Bridge, wineries, breweries, Natural Bridge Zoo, Safari Park, Dinosaur Kingdom, Appalachian Trail, Blue Ridge Parkway, James River, historic Lexington, Devil's Marbleyard, Glenwood Horse Trail, swimming holes, etc. We have river access 2 miles up the road if you'd like to fish or put your kayak or canoe in. Truly, there is something nearby for everyone. We'd be happy to give you recommendations of things to see and do. If you are a star gazer you won't be disappointed by our dark sky. We want to share our property with those who want to stay for more than one night, so we do not accept inquiries of single night stays.

Learn more about this land: Fall asleep to hooting owls and the gentle ripple of the river and creek that flank your campsite. Wake up with a dip in the river or a morning hike in the woods. Feel the hug of the mountains throughout your stay, while also having access to Blacksburg nearby should you need it.  DIRECTIONS: Upon entry the gravel road is shared with my neighbor and it is about 1.5 miles from the entry gate to the site. You'll enter thru a gate (it may be closed, if closed please close behind you as my neighbor sometimes has cows). Go approx 1 mile the road will split...go up the hill on the right. Continue past the Hay barn another half mile. Park on the left side of the gravel road along the tree line. Another 50ft you'll see a wood foot bridge across the creek. The sites are ahead, PawPaw is first, then Bloodroot Base Camp (bell tent), and lastly Cohosh Cove is the most private. Each site has a sign as well When driving, please be respectful of the right of way. Drive slowly and respect the farm equipment. Also please do not venture onto the neighbor’s property other than entry and exit. About the property 20 minutes from Blacksburg and 35 minutes from Roanoke, our campground gives you great access to the “Triple Crown” of the Appalachian trail, consisting of McAfee Knob, Tinker Cliffs, and Dragon’s Tooth. Conquer these iconic peaks of Virginia’s Blue Ridge Mountains for spectacular views of the surrounding wilderness. Additionally, explore Falls Ridge Nature preserve, Cascades waterfall, and Carvin’s Cove for hiking, kayaking and mountain biking.  Or just stay on the campground and enjoy the hiking and swimming we offer here.  Nearby in Blacksburg take advantage of the local breweries or Virginia Tech football home games. You can also find Christmas tree cutting in Floyd county, 45mins away.  This property deserves to be shared with others. It is peaceful and beautiful. As your Host, I am passionate about conservation and also teaching people about the medicinal uses of our local herbs. I can lead medicinal herb walks upon request for $25 a person. I typically try to meet the campers if I can upon arrival, I am available for questions and can be hands on or off as the needs of campers suggest. I have had campers ask if I wanted to share a beverage and sit around the fire and have done so. I want to make your experience as enjoyable as possible. I love the peacefulness the property offers, and that you’re in the middle of the wilderness but also have quick access to things in town. The river campsites are my favorite part of the property. At the main cabin I have goats and chickens which hipcampers are more than welcome to greet.  About the listing Pitch your tents at the campsite nestled along the side of the mountain on the banks of the North Fork of the Roanoke River. As you fall asleep, listen to the occasional hoot of an owl, howl of a coyote, and gentle ripple of the river and creek that flank the campsite. This property was once a 300 acre plus tobacco farm. We are located within two miles of the Blue Ridge Parkway and the Appalachian trail via a gated, public, forest road. Hikers should park at their campsite and walk up. The original log cabin was built in the 1850s and now serves as our dining room. The front portion of the house was completed in April of 1861 and the back in the early 1900s. We have plans to eventually turn it into a working farm which produces tinctures, salves and extracts of various native plants. Learn more about this land: Heavily wooded mountain side with flowing creek. Easy access (walking distance) to Jefferson National Forest, National Forest horse trail and the Blue Ridge Parkway and the Appalachian Trail. (Note: You cannot drive to the Blue Ridge Parkway as the path is an old forest road which has been gated, but you can walk up to it.)  We also have a tree house which has AC, heat and electrical connection.     You may camp anywhere on the property.  There is plenty of frontage on the creek and several tents can go up there. What makes W.T. Farm special is the diversity of textures of the landscape. We have great mountain top views, as well as, a deep holler with cliffs, rock outcroppings, and waterfalls. The fields are full of fruit and nut trees and there are 5 ponds. Each of these supports its own flora and fauna. I acquired stewardship of this land 35 years ago and have developed perennial orchards wherever possible. I started with pears and have branched out into pawpaws, apples, persimmons, currants, black walnuts etc. and I boast that I planted the first commercial hickory oil orchard in the world. I am an eccentric horticulturalist and graft cultivar varieties onto existing trees like oaks, hickories, black walnuts, and even the maligned invasive honeysuckle, autumn olive and multiflora rose. Just last year I bought an adjoining farm that opened up 50 acres of more orchard planting. It is on top of the mountain and offers an expansive view of the valley and ridge system that defines our region. Funny thing is that because the land between the old farm and the new farm is divided by cliffs in the holler the only way to get from one to the other is a 12 minute drive or vigorous hiking. On this new land is a historic log cabin I am renovating that is said to be one of the original settler's cabin on the mountain. Because of the amount of tree fruit I grow and the varied landscape, there is a rich diversity of birds and animals to be seen. One of my favorite walks is along the cliffs to the top waterfall where there is a sweet wading pool. I have also built a number of ponds and four of them are quite swimmable. One has a dock and is where we spend much summer time refreshing and frolicking. The farm is also a small (very small) licensed farm winery and we make and sell traditional hard cider from our apples and pears. Our cider can be purchased along with our nut oils and flours and other farm produce you may not be familiar with. We live to eat. Coming here is a gastronomical adventure! I run the Acornucopia project from here and from it we are developing a foragers network that would very much suit the lifestyle of hipcampers. We pay foragers for wild nuts they gather. The cabin is located on an old apple orchard and budding homestead. It is off-grid and powered by solar. It is a short walk from the parking area (75 steps uphill). The cabin is one room with a kitchenette, hot outdoor shower, and outdoor compost toilet. The cabin can sleep up to three people with a queen bed, futon, and pullout couch. The kitchen includes a gas range, mini fridge, a sink with running water, and basic kitchen cook wear. A propane heater is available for extra warmth on a chilly night. A shelf equipped with books and board games. A propane grill sits on the front porch, and a fire pit out front. The hot outdoor shower and compost toilet are 25 steps from the front door tucked into the tree line. The pond sits in front of the cabin, a picnic table sets by the edge. We love living simply, and immersed in nature, and have designed the space for others who also share this passion. We often see deer, turkey, bear, fox, and coyote. Maybe you will too! You will love reading your book by the pond while listening to the frog chorus, and taking your evening shower while gazing upon the ancient oaks. Our location is 15 minutes from the Appalachian Trail and James River access. There is a unique cabin shower, a composting toilet, well and tap water available for campers, a wonderful Solo stove for you to build a fire and to cozy up near, and a picnic table for enjoying a bite to eat! A deck sits right outside the cabin that overlooks the creek, and will be private for you during your stay.  We welcome your pets, just please ensure they are on a leash since there are other farm animals on the property.  While the cabin is the only one on our property, and somewhat private, you may see the Hosts in passing on the farm.  Additional Details to Note: - Check in is after 4pm and check out by 10am - You can stay connected if you'd like to, as cell reception is available on our property. Starting December 1, or first night below freezing we will be closing down Bath House and only access will be at outhouses. Only sites near outhouses will be open and there will be no access to water. Situated at the foot of the Blue Ridge Mountains and bordering the Jefferson National Forest, Thunder BRidge has scenic, large, private tent sites and cabins in the woods for those who want to experience camping at its finest. Many of the sites border Elk Creek. Our RV sites are large, flat and at the edge of the forest in a well kept open green space. Our 100 acres was originally a camp built by the Civilian Conservation Corp in the "30s and early '40s, then a boys' juvenile detention center and Big Brothers'/Big Sisters' camp, which closed in 2009. The tent sites and cabins are in the forest, away from the buildings out front, but you're free to walk around and check out the historic site. Most of the buildings out front are artist studios (currently for 16 artists). We like to share the camp with others and watch it come back to life. All within a short driving distance are the Natural Bridge, wineries, breweries, Natural Bridge Zoo, Safari Park, Dinosaur Kingdom, Appalachian Trail, Blue Ridge Parkway, James River, historic Lexington, Devil's Marbleyard, Glenwood Horse Trail, swimming holes, etc. We have river access 2 miles up the road if you'd like to fish or put your kayak or canoe in. Truly, there is something nearby for everyone. We'd be happy to give you recommendations of things to see and do. If you are a star gazer you won't be disappointed by our dark sky. We want to share our property with those who want to stay for more than one night, so we do not accept inquiries of single night stays.

Continue past the Hay barn another half mile. Park on the left side of the gravel road along the tree line. Another 50ft you'll see a wood foot bridge across the creek. The sites are ahead, PawPaw is first, then Bloodroot Base Camp (bell tent), and lastly Cohosh Cove is the most private. Each site has a sign as well When driving, please be respectful of the right of way. Drive slowly and respect the farm equipment. Also please do not venture onto the neighbor’s property other than entry and exit. About the property 20 minutes from Blacksburg and 35 minutes from Roanoke, our campground gives you great access to the “Triple Crown” of the Appalachian trail, consisting of McAfee Knob, Tinker Cliffs, and Dragon’s Tooth. Conquer these iconic peaks of Virginia’s Blue Ridge Mountains for spectacular views of the surrounding wilderness. Additionally, explore Falls Ridge Nature preserve, Cascades waterfall, and Carvin’s Cove for hiking, kayaking and mountain biking.  Or just stay on the campground and enjoy the hiking and swimming we offer here.  Nearby in Blacksburg take advantage of the local breweries or Virginia Tech football home games. You can also find Christmas tree cutting in Floyd county, 45mins away.  This property deserves to be shared with others. It is peaceful and beautiful. As your Host, I am passionate about conservation and also teaching people about the medicinal uses of our local herbs. I can lead medicinal herb walks upon request for $25 a person. I typically try to meet the campers if I can upon arrival, I am available for questions and can be hands on or off as the needs of campers suggest. I have had campers ask if I wanted to share a beverage and sit around the fire and have done so. I want to make your experience as enjoyable as possible. I love the peacefulness the property offers, and that you’re in the middle of the wilderness but also have quick access to things in town. The river campsites are my favorite part of the property. At the main cabin I have goats and chickens which hipcampers are more than welcome to greet.  About the listing Pitch your tents at the campsite nestled along the side of the mountain on the banks of the North Fork of the Roanoke River. Hikers should park at their campsite and walk up. The original log cabin was built in the 1850s and now serves as our dining room. The front portion of the house was completed in April of 1861 and the back in the early 1900s. We have plans to eventually turn it into a working farm which produces tinctures, salves and extracts of various native plants. What makes W.T. Farm special is the diversity of textures of the landscape. We have great mountain top views, as well as, a deep holler with cliffs, rock outcroppings, and waterfalls. The fields are full of fruit and nut trees and there are 5 ponds. Each of these supports its own flora and fauna. I acquired stewardship of this land 35 years ago and have developed perennial orchards wherever possible. I started with pears and have branched out into pawpaws, apples, persimmons, currants, black walnuts etc. and I boast that I planted the first commercial hickory oil orchard in the world. I am an eccentric horticulturalist and graft cultivar varieties onto existing trees like oaks, hickories, black walnuts, and even the maligned invasive honeysuckle, autumn olive and multiflora rose. Just last year I bought an adjoining farm that opened up 50 acres of more orchard planting. It is on top of the mountain and offers an expansive view of the valley and ridge system that defines our region. Funny thing is that because the land between the old farm and the new farm is divided by cliffs in the holler the only way to get from one to the other is a 12 minute drive or vigorous hiking. On this new land is a historic log cabin I am renovating that is said to be one of the original settler's cabin on the mountain. Because of the amount of tree fruit I grow and the varied landscape, there is a rich diversity of birds and animals to be seen. One of my favorite walks is along the cliffs to the top waterfall where there is a sweet wading pool. I have also built a number of ponds and four of them are quite swimmable. One has a dock and is where we spend much summer time refreshing and frolicking. The farm is also a small (very small) licensed farm winery and we make and sell traditional hard cider from our apples and pears. Our cider can be purchased along with our nut oils and flours and other farm produce you may not be familiar with. We live to eat. Coming here is a gastronomical adventure! I run the Acornucopia project from here and from it we are developing a foragers network that would very much suit the lifestyle of hipcampers. We pay foragers for wild nuts they gather. A deck sits right outside the cabin that overlooks the creek, and will be private for you during your stay.  We welcome your pets, just please ensure they are on a leash since there are other farm animals on the property.  While the cabin is the only one on our property, and somewhat private, you may see the Hosts in passing on the farm.  Additional Details to Note: - Check in is after 4pm and check out by 10am - You can stay connected if you'd like to, as cell reception is available on our property. The cabin does not have wifi. Feel free to unplug during your stay though! - This spot is family friendly, so feel free to bring the kids and furry friends if you'd like! - Fires allowed only in the Solo stove Please feel free to reach out with any questions and we look forward to your stay! Spring Side Cabin: The goal of our cabin is to give guests an up-close view of life on a farm :). The cabin is on the edge of our active family farm, and directly beside the dairy goat barn. We have a small herd of miniature goats you are welcome to visit with - chances are, they'll reach their heads over the fence for a pet :). Our livestock dog lives with the goats, and you will hear her bark. (We provide ear plugs in case of night time barking). The goats love visitors, so please let us know if you want to take part in the farming, or just give treats :). We are also happy to have our guests take part in some of the farm activities. Bring your sense of adventure, but please do not book if you will be bothered by goat sounds, a dog barking or rooster crowing! We want you to be happy wherever you stay! The cabin has a driveway to the front door and is accessible by 3 stairs onto the porch. It's perfect for relaxing after a day of exploring and listening to the quiet sounds of the country. We have found that our guests are interested in having some local amenities available upon check-in. We love to make our guests comfortable, so have put together a variety of packages for you to select from upon confirmation of reservation. (If you'd like to see the packages ahead of time, please just send us a message here). There is NO SMOKING on the property, inside or outside. On the main level of the cabin, you will find a kitchenette (compact oven, microwave, coffee pot, refrigerator and sink), dining/living area, the bedroom and bathroom. There is also a loft with an additional full size bed, accessed by a sturdy ladder. Please note that the cabin is on the edge of the woods, and you may encounter wildlife while here :).

Take it easy at this unique and tranquil getaway tucked in a 19.75 wooded acre bowl in a rural Appalachia setting. This quaint, rustic wood decor cabin contains 2 queen beds (upstairs master bedroom & loft) plus an additional fold-out couch bed. Provided: towels, etc., washer/dryer/ detergent, toothpaste, soap, shampoo, farm fresh eggs, homegrown garlic, misc spices, complimentary regular and decaffeinated coffee, tea bags pots, pans, air fryer, coffee pot, toaster, and itchen appliances shown Guest access A guest has access to the entire house and 19.75 wooded acres. The driveway is gravel, hilly, bumpy, and not plowed in the winter. it is West Virginia - wild and wonderful! Because the owners also use the property often, a portion of cabinets that hold some of their non-valuable, convenient items are locked and unusable to guests The woodburner stove is non-functional and off-limits to guests. Other things to note It is an amazing little house sitting in a "bowl," mostly surrounded by woods and hills. The topography is hilly. The driveway is gravel, hilly, bumpy, and not plowed in the winter. It's wild and wonderful in West Virginia! Thoroughly enjoyed camping at Butterfly 1. The host was flexible with parking when we explained we were there for a driving trip and might need to park 5 cars there. Cool spot with a stream running nearby, a couple nearby camp sites for a somewhat communal feeling and overall great stay. Would recommend and may stay there next year for the first leg of our next journey!

This was our second time staying at Thunder BRidge and Woodpecker 5, specifically. We love this place. Adam is incredible and took care of everything we needed and was great at communicating. This is the best place we have stayed on Hipcamp. 100% recommend to anyone visiting the area. We have done Devil's Marbleyard twice now and stayed here both times. Wouldn't stay anywhere else!

Adam at thunder BRidge is always so helpful and friendly! Texted him to ask for more firewood and he was there in under 2 minutes with a truck load. Forgot our dog leashes at home and he lent us two so we could bring the dogs with us to natural bridge. He reaches out beforehand to give you any details you may need and is always a text or call away if you need anything. The cabin is huge and very affordable, and allows you to rough it in style. Such a fun and enjoyable campground all around. We will definitely be back!

The spot was even more beautiful than the pictures. Dave was helpful and great to talk to - he gave us the scoop on some plants on the property. We spent an evening cooking on the fire pit, snuggling the dog visitors, listening to the river trickle, and playing music. We were the only folks at the campground making it super private and peaceful. The bell tent was easy, spacious, and super comfy without being too fancy. As we went to sleep we heard a romantic train in the distance. Gratitude for sharing the space.

This was an introduction to camping for our six year old, and he loved it! The yurt and campsite came with everything we needed to enjoy the outdoors while having creature comforts, and the communal trailer was nice to have to check-in with family. We didn’t need anything, but the camp store was also stocked with bare essentials in the event you leave something behind. The site was very private, and Beau, Leah, and the other guests were friendly. We hope to make it back to Beaverfalls again!

The entire property looks well run, the waterfall is pretty & you can hear it from the text, It was very moist out, as expected this time of year. We paid extra for bedding & it was totally worth it to arrive with the bed made. The bedding was perfect, very comfortable. The only negative at all is the text does have mold & just needs a routine power wash, not a big deal. Would definitely recommend! The leaves have started to change at that elevation and it was gorgeous!

Fantastic weekend at Thunder BRidge! Planned this camping trip last minute for my fiancé’s birthday with our kiddos- everyone had a blast. Cots in Butterfly 1 though thin, were more comfortable than anticipated. The camp was clean and well cared for with a lot of history behind it. Bathrooms were well stocked and water was hot- a huge plus considering it was in the 40s our first morning! Adam was nice enough to send us a video of how to get to our site which was extremely convenient being that we’re not familiar with the area and did not arrive until late Friday night. Already planning on making camping at Thunder BRidge a yearly family tradition.

We enjoyed being unplugged from tech and fully immersed in nature. The yurt is nestled in the woods away from the main building and other tent sites so there's plenty of privacy and quiet. There's an opening in the trees above where a myriad of stars can be admired from the deck. I recommend opening the windows of the yurt to let in the sunlight and allow air to flow through the space. It was convenient to use the grill for cooking and the dinnerware for our meals. There is only one pot to cook in so if you need additional cookware, I would recommend bringing what you need as well as a sharp knife, peeler and can opener.
